Starting over. Luo Chao gave a bitter smile, "Sorry, I already have a wife."
Shen Birong's face instantly turned pale, as if devoid of blood. She tried to hide the pain in her heart, but couldn't cover the look of anguish on her face, biting her red lips so hard that they nearly bled. "Really? When did you get married?"
"Just a few months ago," Luo Chao could see her pain. The moonlight illuminated her exquisite face, highlighting her beautiful features like a goddess descending from heaven, a beauty that could intoxicate anyone.
Luo Chao did not explicitly ntion that it was a marriage of convenience, because Shen Birong hadn't changed, whereas he had. Over the years, even though he hadn't dated anyone, he felt he no longer deserved that still pure and gentle woman. For years, he had been a playboy, entangled with countless won, even during his recent return to Jiangning City. Although he had since restrained himself, he used to frequent bars looking for flings.
More importantly, Luo Chao's hands were stained with an unknown amount of blood. Although those he killed were deserving, he couldn't hide the restless heart within him. To be with a woman like Shen Birong, who was as white as paper, was sothing Luo Chao truly couldn't manage.
Shen Birong fell silent as her heart bled. Four years of waiting had resulted in Luo Chao getting married. She didn't hate Luo Chao; she only blad fate for playing tricks. If she could go back to high school graduation, even if it ant giving up the college entrance exams, she would have followed Luo Chao.
But Shen Birong was an obedient girl, unwilling to disappoint her parents. She suppressed her feelings for Luo Chao, took her exams, went to university, and found a good job.
"Let take you ho," Luo Chao sighed deeply in his heart. Even if he was hurting her now, it was better than tarnishing her pure heart.
Shen Birong nodded lightly, "Mm!"
Luo Chao drove, taking her to a residential area near Xiangyun High School, where Shen Birong had rented a room.
As he watched Shen Birong walk away, Luo Chao gazed at the starry sky. If such a huge misunderstanding hadn't occurred that year, his life's path would have surely changed. But this was fate. Instead of taking the college entrance exams, he enlisted in the military, only to be expelled after three years, leading to an agreent for a two-year marriage with Ning Wanxi upon his return to Jiangning City.
Who knows what the future holds, Luo Chao reflected deeply, wishing only for the well-being of his family and friends, using the power his destiny gave him to protect them.
At this mont, Luo Chao rediscovered his life's purpose. He drove away into the night.
Shen Birong stood by the window of her rented room, watching Luo Chao linger for a long ti before finally leaving. Her brows were still filled with worry as she murmured, "Luo Chao, is this really how we missed out on each other in this lifeti?"
"But I truly can't forget you," Shen Birong spoke, tears of emotion streaming down her face. She was a very conservative woman, never able to forget her profound first love.
Chokingly, Shen Birong said, "You already have a wife. I really should forget you, but I can't. I really can't."
In the blink of an eye, it was the weekend again. On this Saturday morning, Ning Wanxi called Luo Chao to go shopping for gifts for his parents.
Aunt Zhou had taken the day off for a nephew's wedding, so Luo Chao and Ning Wanxi had to bring little Doudou along. Now over four months old, Ning Doudou could babble and laugh, even if no one understood what she was babbling about. Her babbling was all the more adorable for it.
The more ti Luo Chao spent with the cute little Doudou, the more he liked her, always hugging her chubby cheeks and smothering her with kisses, almost driving Ning Wanxi crazy a few tis because Luo Chao would leave drool all over Doudou's face.
This ti, Luo Chao and Ning Wanxi didn't go to the Tengyuan Group's departnt store because it was too far from ho, making it inconvenient to bring Doudou. Instead, they chose a large departnt store closer to the Golden Ding District – the Hongxing Departnt Store, a business under the Hongxing Group.
The Hongxing Departnt Store could rival Tengyuan's. It had entertainnt, dining, a cinema, clothing, gold, and silver jewelry; practically everything one could think of.
Luo Chao and Ning Wanxi headed straight to the supermarket at the Hongxing Departnt Store. Holding little Doudou, Ning Wanxi turned to ask, "Luo Chao, what health supplents do your parents like?"
"They like sweet potatoes and yams. Oh, and corn too," Luo Chao replied with a thoughtful look, speaking as he pondered.
Ning Wanxi glared at him in embarrassnt, "I'm not joking with you!"
"Do I look like I'm joking?" Luo Chao's lips curled up slightly. "We are poor people. The supplents you think of aren't like your wealthy folks' sea cucumber and bird's nest."
"For us rural folks, sweet potatoes and yams are staple foods, equivalent to supplents," Luo Chao stated with righteous indignation.
Ning Wanxi huffed, "Are you suggesting I should buy sweet potatoes to honor your parents?"
"Well, that's not impossible," Luo Chao chuckled.
Ning Wanxi, seeing his playful smile, turned frosty, stuffed Doudou into his arms, and ignored his nonsense, deciding on what to buy herself.
Luo Chao followed her. When he saw that Ning Wanxi was genuinely buying bird's nest, he quickly said, "You're really buying this?"
"Why, can't I buy bird's nest?" Ning Wanxi looked at him, countering.
Luo Chao sighed, "This stuff is too expensive!"
"The more expensive, the better," Ning Wanxi raised an eyebrow, "You really have no filial piety. The nutritional content of bird's nest is extrely high and can extend life. My parents eat it regularly."
Luo Chao said with a wry smile, "For you, of course, the more expensive, the better. But in the eyes of my parents, I'm not a rich person. If we buy bird's nest to honor them, they'll definitely think you bought it and might even mistakenly believe I've been kept by you. Then I'd be in big trouble!"
Ning Wanxi was stunned. What kind of logic was that! But how could she know that Luo Chao's father was an extre male chauvinist, believing won should not surpass n, as n were the heads and pillars of the family. His son could never marry such a strong and wealthy woman, living off her would be unacceptable!
After a while, Ning Wanxi understood Lu An's words, smiling and shaking her head, "I didn't expect your parents to still have such archaic views, that won have to be inferior to n!"
"Ms. Ning, those are my parents, not yours. Whose words should be followed?" Luo Chao argued confidently.
Ning Wanxi nodded, "Then tell what your parents like, and we'll decide what to buy."
Luo Chao thought for a mont and said, "My dad likes smoking and drinking tea, and my mom likes pretty new clothes."
"Okay, got it," Ning Wanxi replied, striding ahead with determination, while Luo Chao, holding little Doudou, couldn't catch up with her and had to let her go.
