"..." Audrick didn’t expect her to play dumb with him. Feeling infuriated, he pressed down the anger hidden between his brows and spoke even more bluntly: "I’m asking you why you chose Lighten Chaser’s song. Wasn’t it enough that I promised to help you shine at the opening ceremony?"
Her choosing to perform Lighten Chaser’s song with him at the opening ceremony—how was that any different from stealing Nathalie’s identity?
Leonardy and Celine rarely saw him this enraged, so they both set down their chopsticks: "What are you two talking about? What’s going on?"
Feeling aggrieved and indignant after Audrick’s abrupt questioning, Caryn hurried to explain before he could speak: "My tutor asked to represent our departnt at Tsinghua University’s opening ceremony this year. "I just called his agent this afternoon and selected a song for the opening ceremony’s performance."
Her eyelashes swept downward, concealing the cold detachnt in her gaze as she avoided explaining the song’s true significance to Leonardy. She simply said, "I liked that song, so I chose it. Who would’ve guessed my second brother would get angry about it?"
She clearly shifted the bla onto Audrick.
Making it seem like Audrick was overreacting and bullying her, the younger sister.
Sure enough, before Leonardy could speak, Celine jumped in first, displeased as she looked at her son, who was downright livid, now defending her daughter: "She rely picked a song to perform. Why are you throwing a tantrum!"
"Is she choosing it just because she likes the song? No, I think she’s..." Obviously trying to stand out and mislead outsiders into believing she’s Lighten Chaser.
After all, Caryn was his biological sister, and Audrick couldn’t bring himself to say anything too harsh.
He left his sentence hanging mid-air, which only made Celine more convinced that he was making a fuss over nothing at ho: "Alright, it’s fine as long as your sister likes it. On this matter, I’m siding with her."
"You don’t even know what’s going on, yet you automatically stand with her. She’s spoiled by you all, and it’s made her the way she is now!" Audrick’s words were visibly laced with frustration.
As soon as he finished speaking, Leonardy abruptly set his bowl down on the table with a loud clatter, glaring at him sternly: "Audrick, watch how you speak to your mother!"
"OK." Audrick looked at their unreasonable favoritism toward Caryn, sothing he’d grown used to long ago. But the disappointnt in his eyes was hard to conceal as he bypassed both of them, his dark gaze falling directly on Caryn: "I know exactly what you’re scheming. You’d better put your plan away, or the only one humiliated in the end will be yourself!"
Caryn’s face turned pale. Audrick’s words were piercing as they reached her ears; they felt like a slap in the face—insulting and utterly humiliating.
"Take this as my advice. Whether you choose to listen or not is up to you!"
Audrick didn’t want to waste any more words on her. After throwing out this remark, he didn’t bother eating and brushed past the servant who had just brought over his bowl and chopsticks.
He didn’t stop when Leonardy and Celine called out to him from behind. Without looking back, he strode away!
Once outside, he saw his nanny van still parked on the road outside the villa. His face remained cold as he pulled open the car door and climbed inside.
His agent imdiately asked, "Audrick, how did it go?"
Audrick’s face was tight as he stayed silent.
After getting into the car, he took out his phone, found Nathalie Quinlan’s WhatsApp, and sent her a ssage.
About ten minutes later, he finally received a reply from her.
After glancing at Nathalie’s reply, his face visibly darkened, as though exhaustion was beginning to weigh heavily on him.
