Nathalie Quinlan only half-lifted her eyelids. Her eyelids were thin, and her pupils pitch black. When she looked at people, her gaze was cold and gangster-like, betraying a kind of wildness that wasn’t easily tad.
"Five years."
Her tone of voice sounded casual and disinterested.
It was a conversation that simply didn’t connect.
Myles Sullivan felt sowhat awkward, unsure how to proceed for a mont, but luckily the waiter brought his coffee at that mont. He picked up the coffee and took a sip, using it to ease his sowhat sheepish mood, and then looked back at the person across from him.
Seeming to weigh his words, he said, "I’ve heard from your parents about what’s happened in the last six months..."
Nathalie Quinlan’s stirring motion paused for a second, and she looked up at him.
Myles Sullivan felt almost seen through by her light, drifting gaze; he nearly avoided her line of sight, but he was worldly, not soone like Jeff Quinlan who dealt in business circles all day.
Almost imdiately, he composed himself, apologizing with a smile, "I was in Beijing all this while, and these past few years have been busy. I had no ti to co to McKinney to see you all. I wasn’t aware of what happened a while back. If I had known, I would’ve given your mom a good talking-to. I wouldn’t have let them do those foolish things..."
Nathalie Quinlan dropped her spoon, leaned back in her chair, and looked at him with dark, ink-like eyes, casually asking, "Did Jeff Quinlan send you to say all this?"
That attitude did not seem like it would ease the tension!
Myles Sullivan felt a thump in his heart, his instincts telling him that recent events weren’t as simple as his older sister had made them out to be. There might be more to the story.
At the very least, he had interacted with Nathalie Quinlan before. While she might appear cold on the exterior, she wasn’t heartless on the inside.
She was extrely tolerant toward the people she cared about.
Ghania had been competitive and determined from a young age, always wanting the best of everything, and her sister was quite unreasonable and extrely biased.
A child who grew up in such an environnt was bound to harbor so jealousy and resentnt.
He had seen it a few tis before. Although Nathalie Quinlan wasn’t talkative and had a cold nature, she was exceptionally tolerant toward Ghania. At the very least, she rarely fought with Ghania over things.
The gifts he brought back from Beijing were chosen by Ghania first, and only then would she take them.
Sotis she wouldn’t even take them.
Only when he insisted would she accept them.
A person with a cold exterior but a warm heart wouldn’t easily push soone they had included in their life out of their circle unless they were deeply hurt!
While Myles Sullivan was annoyed with Emilia Sullivan’s foolishness in his heart, he had to gather his spirit to face her sharp question, "When I ca back, I did hear so things about your family, but I’m not entirely sure what happened. All I know is that six months ago you found your biological parents, were taken back by them, and then transferred to No. 1 Middle School in McKinney, the sa school as Ghania. There was so conflict between the two sisters, and your parents took Ghania’s side, which hurt you..."
His answer couldn’t be called anything but graceful.
Under these circumstances, to say he knew nothing would be unbelievable!
But if he claid to know everything and still talked about reconciliation, it would seem as though he was also biased, taking Ghania’s side, which could easily hurt Nathalie Quinlan’s feelings.
Better to adopt the current approach, half-admitting and half-denying, which appeared much more sincere.
But he wasn’t lying. He had just returned to McKinney and only knew that the Quinlan Family had fallen out with Nathalie Quinlan, that Pinecone Group was involved with her and was now turning against the Quinlan Family, wanting to clean them up. His useless brother-in-law was on the verge of bankruptcy, and the entire family was living in misery.
Even Ghania’s assured placent at National Artists University was in jeopardy.
As for the rest, he wasn’t particularly clear!
