Now, the graduation ceremony had a secondary purpose, it was also the engagent announcent between Princess Katerina of Wistover, and Prince Jacob of Chip.
The lucky bride to be was up in her room with her mother, getting an appropriate outfit ready for the dinner announcent, while her father sat down with her groom to do whatever it was that n talked about while the ladies got ready.
She knew that it didn’t take them long to be prepared, just a quick shower and running a brush through their hair. So, they had to be talking instead.
"Are you sure that you’re ready for this? It’s a big deal to get married and move in with a Prince, especially one that is likely to be Crown Prince," Alexis asked.
Katerina smiled. "I like this one. He’s got good combat skills, he doesn’t fight dirty, and he put in enough effort to know that he should challenge , not father, to try to get my hand. I might not have the most experience with boys, at least not in the conventional sense. But my instincts are rarely wrong about people."
"Just this morning, you were trying to claim a very different Prince."
"He’s cute, but he disappointed . Did you know that he whined to his father instead of finally standing up for himself? He had potential, but he just couldn’t beco the man that he needed to be to match with his skills."
Alexis smiled. "You know, if your husband lives up to expectations, you’re going to beco the Queen of Chip."
Katerina considered that. "Queen Katerina has a nice ring to it."
"Alright. We’ve let you do as you pleased for most of your life, so we will let you make this call, too. They will arrange the marriage date, but it will likely be a while."
"Why? I caught him, he’s mine."
Alexis laughed. "Calm down girl, you’re still sixteen. While the Kings would approve the marriage with parental approval, you’re still very young. Two years, just two more sumrs, and then you’ll be at the proper debutante age."
Katerina frowned. "But debutantes are the ones who didn’t secure a man in advance. I’ve got mine."
The little dragon had always been mature for her age, which was great when she was young, but now it was backfiring on Alexis. Her daughter had sothing in her head, and she wasn’t willing to wait to get it.
Often, a Princess betrothed to a Royal Family would move to the husband’s Palace while they waited for the wedding.
But if they let her do that, they would be having a shotgun wedding for certain.
That sort of scandal wouldn’t be good for anyone.
"Alright, I will speak with your father and the King of Chip. If everyone agrees, we will let you marry early so that your claim is secure."
"If it helps, I could transform and fly away with him."
"Please don’t. Your father is annoying enough when he gets protective and transforms on . Plus, it will ss up your hair, and I just got finished fixing it for dinner. Now, prepare yourself, we will bring your groom to the head table to have dinner with us."
"Do I bring a sword? I feel like I should bring a sword."
Alexis bonked her daughter on the head. "No weapons at the dinner table. That’s a rule all the ti, and you know it."
Katerina sighed. She just wanted to impress her new husband.
"Fine, no swords. But it’s your fault if he’s not impressed enough with ."
Alexis laughed, "He ca all the way here from Chip, travelled with his Royal Guards so that everyone would know if he failed, and he risked public embarrassnt. I don’t think that he’s going to back away now that we’re ready to sign the marriage alliance paperwork.
Your father is reviewing it now, to make sure that the details are suitable, and if there are no objections, it will be signed at dinner.
Then, he is officially yours."
Katerina’s eyes glowed gold, and Alexis laughed. "You know, your father’s eyes do the sa thing when he’s feeling possessive. I see many stressful days in your husband’s future."
The Princess nodded. "I learned how to keep a darkness barrier over my wings when I sleep so that the infamous curtain trick doesn’t work on ."
"Is that what Amie has been teaching you lately?"
"Of course not. She taught how to close the curtains remotely. It was Elder Deve who taught the darkness barrier. You know the one, the infiltration and stealth tactics’ professor."
"Of course he would know it. Alright, just rember not to scare this one too badly. You terrorized the last one so much that he ran away."
"Because he was too weak. I have learned my lesson."
Alexis stood to help her daughter to her feet, and suddenly all of the emotional buildup that she had been trying to ignore hit all at once.
"Mom?"
The Paladin wiped a tear from the corner of her eye. "My little girl is getting all grown up and leaving ho. I wasn’t ready for this, I should have had more ti."
She wrapped her arms around Katerina, and felt warm wings wrap around her in return.
"It will be alright, I promise. I’ve got more than enough magic to co visit whenever I want, and you’ve got those idiot brothers of mine to look after. I really should have wished for a sister. But who knew that twin brothers could be so annoying?"
"I will have you know that I still bla you for them being so annoying. You set the bar too low, they didn’t have a good older sibling role model to look up to," Alexis teased.
"Well, there’s still ti. They’re just starting at the Academy, you can correct them before they get old and beco useless."
Alexis smiled, "I will be sure to tell your brothers that you said that."
"You know, if you were going to make simple-minded boys, you could have nad them Larry and Dave, not Robert and Douglas. I had high hopes when you inford that I was going to get brothers.
Perhaps magic prodigies, glorious golden-winged dragons, sothing cool.
But what did I get? A pair of babies. So boring."
"I will have you know, young lady, that most of us were happy that this ti the babies were not breathing fire at the trolls when they were hungry."
