Chapter 222

Great Decisive Battle (1)

Every ti Dana Watson took a step forward, the bedrock that failed to withstand the impact let out a scream.

The jet-like blasting sound erupting from behind Kairus’s back grew sharper and sharper. In the blink of an eye, Kairus repeatedly flew in and was thrown back as he continued targeting Dana Watson.

“Is this all you’ve got, Featherwing?”

Dana Watson was unleashing dozens of attacks within the span of a single breath, each strike powerful enough to send the charging Kairus flying backward instead.

‘At least I can still dodge her.’

But sadly, unlike Kairus, the ground had no way of avoiding Dana Watson’s attacks. How many minutes had the battle continued?

The battlefield where the two clashed gradually sank lower and lower. It looked as though a giant had dug deeply into the earth with a shovel.

“Right. You should co too.”

Irena, who had been waiting for an opening, suddenly rushed in and aid for Dana Watson’s heel. Having observed both Dana Watson and Kairus for a long ti, this battle was the perfect situation for Irena to make use of her talent, but—

Dana Watson’s kick smashed directly into Irena’s chest as she charged forward.

“Khehk!”

With a choked cry, Irena was sent flying backward.

‘I’m… okay.’

Within her pain-blurred vision, what Irena saw was the future where Kairus swung his sword at Dana Watson.

And the future Irena predicted beca reality.

Because of Dana Watson’s sudden strike, a proper battle had failed to begin.

The fight had already been disadvantageous to begin with, and if the opening unfolded like that, Kairus would never be able to seize the initiative.

“Cough… khk.”

Irena spat out the blood pooling inside her mouth and forcibly pushed herself back up.

What she needed to do was sohow return the battle between Kairus and Dana—which had gone wrong from the very start—back to square one.

And thanks to the movent she attempted by throwing her own body into danger—

She succeeded in reconstructing the battlefield.

‘You did well.’

Kairus silently thanked Irena as he swung his sword toward Dana Watson.

Air carrying a monstrous force weighing dozens of tons crashed down upon Dana.

“Co on. Let’s die together.”

The eyes staring at Kairus blazed with fighting spirit.

Hallucinations rang in his ears. The pressure Dana Watson emitted pulsed rhythmically like the beating of war drums, crushing down on Kairus.

“...”

Dozens of sword strikes crossed paths within a single breath. Mountains shattered, and clouds floating across the sky were torn to pieces.

The sword Dana Watson wielded was not complicated. Once her blade path was drawn, it never changed.

There were no deceptive movents, nor any mysterious finesse ant to lead her opponent into a disadvantageous position through her attacks.

“What a… fucking lunatic.”

Fast and strong. The purpose of every attack was always singular.

This strike will kill the opponent.

Like swinging a hamr to drive in a nail. Every single blow she unleashed carried that simple purpose.

[If you can block it, then block it. If you can dodge it, then dodge it.]

But if you failed, you died. If battle were compared to a debate, Dana Watson’s way of speaking was brutally short and direct.

“Tsk, so damn restless.”

In contrast, Kairus’s movents were dazzling. His moving body never once stopped.

Flying around his opponent at speeds surpassing the sound barrier, he left behind countless afterimages of his sword that made one’s eyes spin.

His offensive, surging together with the winds of Swift Blade, always had another move prepared behind it. A silver-tongued speaker who dragged others into his pace through endless logic and sophistry before they could even regain their senses.

‘This is difficult.’

Massive steel so heavy its weight could not even be asured, and winds that transford endlessly into countless forms before scattering apart, were clashing against each other.

In the end, the outco of this battle would depend on whether Dana Watson’s steel was harder, or whether Kairus’s wind was fiercer.

Judging from the course of the battle so far, victory was leaning toward Dana. A single sharp and composed statent piercing directly into the core of nonstop rhetoric.

“I’m here too, you know?!”

But there was also a hype man in this fight, soone adding rhythm to the battle.

Soone who responded to Kairus at the exact monts he needed it, clapping and exclaiming in admiration.

Irena Kellogg.

At every critical mont, she sohow forced her way in to interfere with Dana Watson’s movents and give strength to Kairus.

“At this rate, I’m starting to regret helping you.”

Of course, Dana easily suppressed Irena’s attempts to dig into the openings.

At this very mont, the only thing Irena could do by interfering was place a finger lightly upon the scale tipping against Kairus, restoring the balance for only a brief instant.

Still, the scales of victory inevitably continued tilting back toward Dana Watson.

“The mountain…”

After getting struck by Dana Watson and sent flying again after rebalancing the scales, Irena surveyed the devastation created by the battle.

The foundation supporting the mountain’s shape was definitely collapsing. Even this massive mountain was far too fragile to endure the clash between Dana Watson and Kairus.

‘There’s not much ti left now.’

From the very beginning, Kairus and Irena had never been capable of defeating Dana Watson through a fair and honorable fight. Just as Dana Watson had stunned the two of them with her sudden opening attack—

Kairus and Irena had also co here with plans of their own.

Whenever Dana Watson swung her sword, thick bedrock crumbled apart like tofu struck by a hamr. Whenever Kairus flew through the air and wielded Veil of Plud Mist, giant ancient trees that had rooted themselves into this mountain for centuries were uprooted and tossed around like feathers.

‘They must’ve prepared sothing. There’s no way they ca here just wanting to die like this.’

Every ti the collisions repeated, the one suffering losses was always Kairus. Like gamblers willingly taking small losses while waiting for one massive winning hand.

“What exactly are you preparing?”

“You’ll find out soon enough.”

Kairus suddenly shot high into the sky before imdiately changing direction and plunging straight down above Dana Watson’s head.

With the sound of the sonic barrier shattering, he accelerated faster and faster beyond even that. Unlike the flashy and skillful movents from before, he now drew a perfectly straight line.

“Crazy bastard.”

Dana Watson grinned and gripped her greatsword with both hands. The only reason Kairus had been able to continue fighting her until now was because he had avoided directly colliding with her power head-on.

But this flight—

Without any tricks whatsoever, he was descending straight toward Dana Watson in a direct line.

There was no reason for her to refuse that clash.

Kairus continued accelerating consecutively. Dana Watson’s greatsword swung in perfect timing, accurately targeting the tip of Kairus’s blade.

With an ear-splitting roar, the mountain’s bedrock foundation—which had barely maintained its shape after already being shattered—completely exploded apart.

Along with the explosive thunderous noise, rocks and dirt weighing well over hundreds of tons erupted skyward, forming a magnificent pillar.

“What the hell was this bastard trying to do?”

As though the result had been predetermined from the beginning, victory belonged to Dana Watson.

Kairus was blown away after suffering heavy damage. Aside from her wrists throbbing painfully, Dana Watson remained virtually unhard.

“The weather’s really nice.”

Just as Dana Watson began wondering what exactly he had been aiming for, the blood-soaked Kairus wiped the blood from his mouth and smiled.

The weather today was truly perfect. That was also the reason Dana Watson had specifically chosen today to attack Kairus.

‘There’s no way I’d fight him in an environnt favorable for using Cloud Seizing Art.’

Today was clear and warm. Typical spring weather. Naturally, while not as dry as winter, it was still considerably dry.

Kairus could not use Cloud Seizing Art powerful enough to affect Dana Watson under weather conditions like this.

From beneath the collapsed foundation, dozens of massive streams of water burst upward like fountains.

“What was I aiming for? I was waiting for the groundwater to burst open.”

Bennett City was land connected to both river and sea. And this mountain was located not too far from Bennett.

Beneath the bedrock forming the mountain lay an enormous quantity of groundwater.

“...”

Water filled the land that had been transford into sothing resembling a massive basin by the battle. A truly monstrous amount of groundwater. It was sothing that could never have happened if Dana Watson had not possessed enough power to utterly overwhelm Kairus.

“Fuck, when I first ca up with this plan, I seriously wondered if this could actually work.”

Smashing apart the mountain’s bedrock and utilizing the groundwater beneath it. It was a mad plan.

The key was the fact that Dana Watson possessed power insane enough to actually make that plan possible.

Kairus’s sword sank into the water steadily flooding the ground.

“!”

With a sharp screeeeeeching sound, the massive quantity of water vibrated all at once.

Nimbus.

The overwhelming output of Veil of Plud Mist was invested entirely into transforming the pooled water into mist in an instant.

The groundwater erupting upward as though it were about to form a lake was all converted into fog. Then that fog rode the updrafts created by Kairus and soared into the sky.

“Now the real fight begins, Dana Watson.”

The battlefield was no longer a clear spring day. The dark clouds covering the sky transford into terrifying cumulonimbus clouds reminiscent of monsoon storms and typhoons.

The sky greedily devoured water.

“...”

Dana Watson’s expression stiffened slightly. She already knew groundwater would burst forth in the process of smashing apart the earth.

After all, this was not her first ti destroying a mountain.

“Seriously.”

The problem was the quantity.

This low mountain, situated near both the sea and the Grand Canal, possessed an absurd amount of groundwater flowing beneath the earth.

That was the one thing Dana Watson had not anticipated.

Various parts of the dark clouds flashed brightly while releasing rumbling roars.

Rain poured down.

The falling rain was once again transford into mist by Kairus and lifted back into the sky. A cycle bordering on infinity.

Now, unless Kairus wished otherwise, the rain in this area would never stop, nor would the dark clouds disappear.

Dana Watson could swing her sword and erase the dark clouds from the sky, but in the end, those erased clouds would simply form again.

“Yeah, Featherwing. This is more like it.”

Dana Watson raised her greatsword while rain poured over her body. Her face was clearly smiling.

Excitent that the battle had finally beco real.

And certainty that the one who would survive this place in the end would undoubtedly be herself.

Kairus, standing opposite her, wore the exact sa expression.

“Then let’s go.”

Five bolts of lightning sequentially descended from the sky and struck the ground. They had not hit Dana Watson directly, but—

Those lightning strikes had definitely fallen closer to Dana than to Kairus. All five of them.

Dana Watson realized that Kairus could control the location where lightning struck to a certain extent.

“Raging wind and rain, with intermittent lightning strikes on top of that.”

And even in this situation, Kairus still possessed the skill to fly.

Behind his back, translucent plates created by his tail feathers appeared.

Within the extre storm, Kairus began flying once more.

“You can still fly in this weather? At this point, if you grabbed a dragon pearl, you’d practically be a dragon already.”

At this point, he resembled less of a bird and more the dragons from the legends of the Daeyeon Kingdom.

After muttering that, Dana Watson stepped forward.

Once again, the bedrock—which had nothing left to collapse—shattered apart as her body accelerated.

“I will win!”

Kairus shouted as they collided, and lightning descended to strike Dana Watson’s body.

Despite being directly hit by lightning, Dana Watson did not appear to suffer much damage.

The nature of the battlefield had changed, but the fight continued.

The greatsword continued moving honestly and steadfastly along straightforward trajectories as it swung again and again.

Kairus countered her while wielding storm winds, his body once more cloaked in countless transformations.
