Chapter 223

Great Decisive Battle (2)

Rain poured down over the mountain that had been transford into a basin, chosen as the battlefield.

To simply say that rain was falling would have been an understatent—it was a violent downpour, as if soone were deliberately dumping it from the sky. Rainwater densely filled the space, making it difficult to see even what was right in front of one’s eyes.

The roaring spray sounded like war drums. Countless raindrops hamred the ground, their noises blending together into chaotic clamor.

“Collapse!”

Kairus, gliding through the storm clouds, swung his sword in a wide arc. From high above the sky, three dragon spouts descended toward Dana Watson.

These weren’t re whirlwinds, but genuine dragon spouts capable of causing irreversible devastation even if only one ford.

“You’re trying hard.”

A greatsword held by human hands swung toward the dragon spouts that looked impossible for any person to oppose. Along with the illusion of a ripping sound echoing out, the dragon spouts that had been grinding across the earth were split apart.

“This won’t even co close, so bring several tis more.”

As the dragon spouts writhed aimlessly like snakes with severed waists before finally subsiding, part of the storm clouds blanketing the sky tore free and ca crashing down as if soone had ripped them apart.

“You need more? Then how about this?”

A cloud weighing dozens of tons descended directly above Dana Watson’s head. If it struck head-on, it was an attack capable of wiping out an entire district of a city without leaving anything behind.

Instead of retreating, Dana Watson leaped toward the falling cloud and thrust her greatsword into it.

The shockwave that burst forth pierced through the cloud, turning it into a donut-like shape and neutralizing it.

“Welco.”

Waiting for the airborne Dana Watson was Kairus, charging through the sky.

“You think things will be different in the air?”

Kairus shot forward while Dana Watson swung her greatsword.

With their collision, an explosive roar spread outward, and the pouring rain burst apart.

The storm clouds tore open, and sunlight beyond them briefly illuminated the earth.

The sound of rain pouring down stopped for a mont.

Then resud once more.

Dana Watson had leaped, not flown. Naturally, the earth below once again pulled her toward the place where she rightfully belonged.

“Where are you going?!”

A pale bolt of lightning flashed brightly as it aid for the falling Dana Watson. The fragnted shape of lightning streaked past, and Dana’s body had definitely been there.

“Kh.”

The instant the lightning struck her directly, Kairus ca flying in right afterward.

‘I can’t let her touch the ground.’

In empty air with nowhere to plant her feet, Dana Watson couldn’t unleash her full strength. But Kairus was fine. He had to maintain this advantage.

“Hold .”

However, Dana Watson, looking at Kairus flying toward her, grinned and moved her greatsword.

The mont their swords touched, Dana Watson’s body moved fluidly, gently redirecting Kairus’s power.

It was a movent she had never shown even once until now.

“?!”

Before he could react, it instantly beca a posture as though she were embracing him.

Clutch.

Kairus’s collar was seized.

“What, you didn’t expect this?”

Before he could do anything in response, Dana Watson flipped her body and hurled Kairus upward into the sky with all her might.

Kairus flew even higher into the heavens.

anwhile, receiving the recoil, Dana Watson’s body rapidly plumted toward the ground. By the ti Kairus regained his posture, Dana Watson had already planted her feet on the earth once more.

“That’s pretty unfair, suddenly pulling that out.”

Until just monts ago, she had fought solely through overwhelming heavy strikes, only to suddenly shift into a style that redirected force at the necessary mont.

‘It wasn’t that she couldn’t deal with using different movents.’

She simply hadn’t needed them until now.

As Kairus landed like a crashing spear and attempted rapid acceleration, countless afterimages were created.

“Oho.”

Dana Watson let out an amused exclamation and similarly produced countless afterimages.

All the afterimages of the two figures, repeatedly vanishing and appearing, moved in perfect synchronization.

An afterimage of Dana Watson attacking while Kairus blocked. Conversely, an afterimage of Dana Watson deflecting Kairus’s attack.

Swords collided, sparks flashed, and the surrounding ground continuously exploded apart.

The pouring rain couldn’t penetrate the range of the endlessly continuing shockwaves, making it seem as though an invisible roof had ford above the place where the two were locked in fierce battle.

‘….’

And every so often, Irena’s flying strikes sohow interrupted Dana Watson’s flow.

“I can understand why the other knight captains got crushed.”

A blade aiming for her waist. Dana Watson’s eyes followed the sword. Then her greatsword suddenly wavered like a heat haze as she tried to redirect the attack.

The grinding friction sound of blade scraping against blade.

‘Now.’

Kairus gripped his sword tightly as though wringing it dry. The fast and light attack moved along the greatsword before abruptly gaining weight.

A sudden shift like this would force almost anyone to lose their balance.

But suddenly the greatsword beca lighter, then changed trajectories like lightning and knocked Kairus’s sword aside.

That montary change was so fast that, for an instant, Kairus thought the greatsword had split into three blades.

“Get lost.”

A kick followed imdiately after. It aid precisely for Kairus’s abdon.

“No thanks.”

Kairus slamd his elbow down onto Dana Watson’s shin as it shot toward his stomach. Another explosion rang out.

Irena, waiting for an opening, thrust her sword toward Dana Watson’s back.

Dana’s body spun as gracefully as if dancing a waltz and deflected Irena’s attack. At the sa ti, several bolts of lightning descended from the sky and struck her body.

“You fucking bastards. This is seriously annoying as hell!”

Dana Watson glanced irritably up at the sky that constantly rumbled and spat lightning whenever it got the chance. Her face was completely twisted with annoyance.

It wasn’t because she was in pain. The lightning was simply irritating. Her body, protected by monstrous output, easily endured even the shock of lightning crashing into her rain-soaked form.

At most, her body tingled a little.

“What the hell is with that greatsword?”

Moving with soft rustling steps and leaving several afterimages behind, Kairus unleashed dozens of slashes as he questioned her.

“Angelene’s Answer.”

Kairus already knew the na of that greatsword. A greatsword boasting absurd output.

It was an object born during experints attempting to determine just how much maximum output humanity could create in a battle gear when no expense was spared in capital and materials.

In terms of raw power alone, no battle gear in this world could stand shoulder to shoulder with that greatsword.

‘How do I deal with this?’

Even in the middle of battle, Kairus’s mind never stopped turning.

The current problem was painfully simple. Dana Watson’s skill far exceeded what Kairus had estimated.

‘What’s the solution?’

But when it ca to thinking of a way to solve that simple problem, he felt lost. He had burst underground water veins, unleashed absurd amounts of torrential rain and wind, and fought with everything he had.

And despite all that, Dana Watson still stood firm like an immovable mountain. If anything, Kairus and Irena were the ones slowly being pushed back.

“What a monstrous bitch.”

The mont he struck the greatsword, Dana Watson’s body lightly swept backward like a feather. Then after retreating so lightly, she charged back instead….

Her montum felt as heavy as a train rushing forward at full speed.

“Kuuuuuuuuugh!”

Fortunately, Kairus possessed the strength and skill to stop a speeding train head-on. While the two collided and engaged in a contest of strength, trying to overpower one another—

Irena moved. Dana Watson retreated backward as if she had no choice, but the smile still lingered at the corners of her mouth.

As though declaring that no matter what they tried, they could never win.

There was no opening to be seen.

No gap to thrust into. The Dana Watson Kairus faced was all-purpose.

No matter what thods Kairus employed, she countered them as if it were only natural. She unfolded the exact movent required at the most precise mont possible.

‘This is like a ga of baduk.’

They could continue fighting. After all, this was a match that could continue until the very end, until the final stones were counted.

But his entire body told him the truth—that he was losing. And all the desperate struggles Kairus and Irena were attempting now….

Instead of accepting the current situation and throwing down the stones, they were clinging to their opponent’s ankle and being dragged along until the bitter end in an utterly pathetic display.

Ti continued to pass. Irena’s legs had been completely crushed, leaving her unable to assist Kairus any longer.

The storm clouds still covered the sky and poured down torrential rain, but the body of Kairus, who had created that downpour, had beco utterly battered and torn apart.

Only Veil of Plud Mist, still tightly gripped in his hand, proved that Kairus’s fighting spirit remained alive.

“You don’t know when to give up? Clingy n aren’t attractive.”

Dana Watson wasn’t moved by things like that.

The greatsword crashed down. Kairus raised Veil of Plud Mist and blocked it.

Boom! Along with the thunderous impact, Kairus’s ankles sank deep into the ground where he stood.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Explosions rang out repeatedly, and Kairus’s body was driven deeper and deeper into the earth.

“Looking good.”

After he had been buried up to his waist, Dana Watson slowly swept her gaze over Kairus as if admiring the sight.

A horizontal slash swung toward his neck. Kairus instinctively succeeded in blocking the attack. At that mont, his lower body buried in the earth was violently ripped free, and Kairus flew through the air before tumbling across the ground.

“Kh… hak!”

Swallowing back the vomit rising in his throat, he rolled across the ground to avoid the greatsword already right in front of him.

“You were decent enough. It’s been a while since I actually broke a sweat.”

The sound of footsteps splashing through rainwater pooled on the ground echoed out. Covered in mud, Kairus staggered as he looked at Dana Watson.

“I’m glad to beco the period at the end of your life. Your skill has been proven, so I’ll rember you as Featherwing.”

Kairus couldn’t properly hear what she was saying because his ears were ringing.

All he could feel was his shattered right arm and the rain striking his body.

“Not yet.”

“No, it’s over.”

Kairus stubbornly insisted, and Dana Watson denied it.

Throwing a tantrum wouldn’t change the outco of the battle. Kairus could certainly keep fighting. But it was impossible for that resistance to produce any aningful result.

“No matter how much you drag this out, you’re only delaying the ti of your death a little.”

Even now, every swing of Dana Watson’s greatsword was at full power. She was not the kind of woman who possessed concepts like holding back because her opponent had already been neutralized.

Kairus blocked the attack once more, then was blown away as if rebounding before crashing into a mound of dirt.

“…In the end.”

Blood flowed from his nose, ears, and eyes.

‘What was it all for in the end?’

Kairus thrust out his hand with a thud, pushed through the dirt mound, straightened his posture, and thought.

It couldn’t end here like this. There were still things left unfinished.

Kairus raised his sword.

“Ha, I’ll admit your spirit is worth seeing. If I had my way, I’d drag you into an inn and spend so ti with you.”

Dana Watson never overlooked her own personal desires.

Dana Watson stepped right in front of him, stroked Kairus’s chin, and smiled.

“Interested? You could live a little longer.”

Kairus looked at her with unfocused eyes.

And instead of answering, he swung his sword. Even exhausted, it was still a strike strong enough to force Dana Watson to take several steps backward.

It was a blow carrying a clear aning of refusal. The fact that he still had enough spirit left in him to act like that made Dana Watson genuinely impressed.
