Chapter 224

Great Decisive Battle (3)

A strike filled with the aning of rejection. But even so, that didn’t an it had wounded Dana.

She might have suffered a slight emotional wound, but that wasn’t a factor worth considering in this battle.

“….”

Kairus checked his body. His limp right arm could no longer be used. Every faint breath he took was accompanied by the bubbling sound of bloody phlegm.

Even so, Kairus stepped forward toward Dana Watson.

A reckless movent, like a bison charging toward a train. Narrowing her eyes as she watched the spectacle, Dana swung her greatsword.

A flash-like strike so fast that only after the blade had passed could one see the rainwater splitting apart.

“Not yet.”

Kairus raised his left arm to block the attack and gritted his teeth. A grinding sound echoed from inside his mouth.

“You fucking bitch. I can’t die here.”

Everything Kairus had been forced to abandon filled his mind.

All the vile behavior he had needed to grow accustod to after entering the labor correctional facility. Digging maggots out of filthy scraps to eat, struggling to claim the straw mat from corpses that had frozen to death before him.

Days where every value he once considered precious—faith, friendship, loyalty, honor—collapsed one after another.

“You’re telling this is how it ends? That the period at the end of my life gets written here?”

The countless cris he committed after leaving the correctional facility. Innocent people killed, corpses piled into mountains.

The life he once knew had all collapsed, and he gathered up years of filthy, disgusting sludge to build his life again from scratch.

He had crafted a life like a ball of dung rolled together by a dung beetle.

“If this was how it’d end, I should’ve hung myself the mont I got out of the correctional facility!”

Even while Kairus roared, Dana Watson continued pouring out attacks. And Kairus, with eyes boiling like molten tar, sohow managed to block and deflect every single strike.

“Ha.”

One thing was certain. Even Dana, who was maintaining the offensive, could feel Kairus’s defense gradually becoming sturdier.

It wasn’t that the output of the battle gear was changing. Veil of Plud Mist was rely a manufactured object.

‘His sword has beco vicious.’

This wasn’t a movent honed through training with a proud and clear mind, discussing reason and the path while refining himself through deep contemplation. The fiercer his montum beca, the murkier Kairus’s movents grew.

The wind sweeping across the earth beca a hamr swung toward Dana Watson. Without hesitation, Dana swung her greatsword and neutralized the wind.

Kairus’s body shot forward through the air. Sword and sword collided, and their eyes t.

“You’re not the period at the end of my sentence. Maybe a comma.”

Kairus would keep going. As he twisted his body, the blade of Veil of Plud Mist slid smoothly down along the greatsword.

The very mont Dana imdiately put strength into her greatsword to stop it—

“Hm?”

A cracking sound rang out, and Kairus slamd Dana in the face with his right fist. In that instant, Dana Watson’s face turned slightly to the side.

“That should’ve been broken.”

Kairus’s right arm was broken. It was still broken even now.

“You used output?”

Realizing what had happened a mont later, Dana stared at Kairus as if dumbfounded. The output of battle gear could be converted into force.

Therefore, he had shoved the bone protruding through the flesh back into place and fixed the form in position. His blood vessels had burst, and his muscles and bones were shattered, but—

If one relied purely on output, none of that mattered. He maintained the shape of his arm with the battle gear’s output and, instead of moving the muscles, used the output itself to swing his arm.

“You crazy bastard.”

From Dana’s perspective, there was no way she could avoid getting hit when she never expected him to swing a broken arm. Wiping the corner of her mouth, Dana spat out bloody saliva and laughed.

It was the first effective hit Kairus had landed on Dana.

“You only pick the naughty things to do. Are you trying to seduce right now?”

“Why, is your heart fluttering?”

In an instant, the accelerated Kairus arrived right before Dana Watson’s nose. The pouring raindrops burst apart a mont later.

‘I’ll find it no matter what.’

He had to break through it. He couldn’t end here. Dana Watson was not invincible.

If cut by a blade, she died. If punched in the mouth, it split open and bled. She wasn’t that different from Kairus. Just a human with bones inside flesh that bled.

So—

He would definitely find it. Kairus’s eyes relentlessly pursued Dana Watson, and every sword strike he swung carried extre tenacity.

A period of ti where his mind gripped onto his collapsing, ruined body and drove it rcilessly onward.

“….”

There was no longer a smile on Dana Watson’s face as she swung her sword while soaked by rain.

It wasn’t because the sword she wielded had beco more threatening. A sword swung by a ruined body couldn’t possibly possess greater power than before.

‘The range of Swift Blade and Cloud Seizing Art…’

Though his eyes remained fixed on Dana, Kairus’s senses were gradually expanding wider and wider. To defeat the monstrous woman before him, he needed to see farther.

Wider. Higher.

Kairus’s Swift Blade and Cloud Seizing Art stretched their reach farther and higher in order to draw in more things.

It wasn’t that the sword itself had beco heavier. Rather, the amount of air dragged along with its movent had beco enormous. As he raised his sword and brought it down, a massive chunk of rainclouds was torn from the sky and crashed down toward Dana.

“You’ve reached it.”

Dana swung her greatsword and erased the falling cloud before lightly frowning as she muttered those words.

The sword Kairus wielded had now beco a baton commanding an army.

The terrifying thing about a general’s baton wasn’t the baton itself.

It was the army obeying and following the baton’s commands that was threatening.

Now, the sword itself was no longer the problem. The clouds blanketing the sky descended and beca a gigantic pillar connecting heaven and earth as they spiraled violently.

Kairus would be sowhere inside that vortex of clouds covering the land and sky. Thanks to that, Dana Watson was no longer being rained on.

Those monstrous storm clouds that had covered the sky had completely transford into that vicious pillar.

“This is fucking ridiculous. Why does this kind of shit always happen only on jobs I take?”

Veins bulged sharply on Dana’s forehead. She wasn’t in a good mood. She had intended to kill Kairus, not help him in the slightest.

Because she fought while smiling, did that an she had been going easy on him?

As if. If smiling dulled one’s sword, that just ant they were weak.

“Hey.”

Dana Watson rested her greatsword over her shoulder and stared at the gigantic pillar of swirling storm clouds.

“Are you not answering?!”

The greatsword swung massively. The spiraling clouds split wide apart from the strike like a doll whose belly had been ripped open.

Kairus’s figure, floating inside the clouds, was revealed—but the storm clouds quickly regained their montum and restored their original form. Kairus would now hide within them and pressure Dana Watson using nothing but wind and clouds.

Unless she disliked that.

“So you’re telling to co inside?”

One thing was certain: Kairus was flying perfectly fine even within those violently churning clouds. The inside was a battlefield unfavorable to Dana Watson.

But if she stayed outside, there was no way to attack Kairus.

The difference in difficulty between splitting apart a vortex of storm clouds with a sword strike and actually injuring the person hidden inside that vortex was on an entirely different level.

Moreover, as though inviting her in, the vortex of storm clouds was slowly approaching Dana.

“Fine. Then I’ll go in myself.”

Dana Watson threw herself into the storm clouds.

“So you ca in.”

The mont Dana entered, Kairus imdiately knew it.

An astonishing sense. It felt as though the inside of these storm clouds had beco Kairus’s own body.

‘The state of the ground, the forms of every object shaking together with the wind inside this place.’

He could feel all of it, and he could clearly picture what kind of results those things would produce within these storm clouds going forward.

While flying, every sensation transmitted through his body told Kairus everything.

The mont he slightly tilted his sword, the wind beca a hamr that smashed down toward Dana Watson, and when he subtly altered his flight path, streaks of lightning repeatedly crashed down where she stood.

‘She entered my body.’

Dana Watson could be described as a shrimp swallowed by a whale.

Though admittedly, she was a ridiculously strong mutant shrimp.

“And she’s enduring all of it.”

Kairus swiftly twisted his body to evade house-sized boulders launched toward him. In the briefest instant, nearly twenty massive rocks had flown at him aiming for his life.

“And even counterattacking.”

Dana Watson hadn’t entered this vortex of storm clouds to die.

She had entered to kill Kairus.

“Found you.”

Dana Watson burst out from the clouds with a pop-like explosion and swung her greatsword. Kairus imdiately changed the direction of his tail feathers and lightly shifted the tip of his blade.

With explosive pounding sounds, the wind battered Dana’s body. Her charge ca to a halt, and as Dana Watson fell, she blocked the slicing wind blades rushing toward her and endured the lightning strikes.

“….”

Dana Watson imdiately altered her strategy and exited the clouds. The mont she confird the inside, she instinctively understood.

“So you want to settle this with a single strike. Fine by .”

Just once.

It seed Kairus intended to finish the battle with a single blow. Well, considering his body was already in terrible condition, that was only natural.

All the storm clouds currently swirling around would descend onto Dana Watson’s head together with one single attack.

Inside the storm clouds, Kairus rapidly continued flying while controlling the dark clouds. Then he coughed up a bowlful of blood and laughed.

“If you can’t stop it, you die. If you do stop it, I’m the one who dies.”

A gamble staking everything on a single throw.

All the underground water flowing beneath this mountain would beco clouds and crash down upon Dana Watson’s head.

Quite literally, it was like dropping a reservoir onto soone’s head.

“Hoo….”

After coming outside, Dana Watson repeatedly took deep breaths and drew out every last bit of output remaining within Angelene’s Answer. She brought every single strand of muscle fiber completely under control.

Raising her concentration to its limit, she stared at the pillar of storm clouds she needed to cut down.

“Good.”

Her heart pounded.

The greatest strike each side had prepared in order to kill the other.

Even Dana, who had held the upper hand throughout the battle, could not guarantee her own victory this ti. The attack Kairus was preparing now was not rely a Featherwing strike.

“If I win this fight, I’ll rember you properly as the head of House Featherwing.”

This was a strike that only the head of House Featherwing could attempt. Kairus now possessed the qualifications to be called by that title even by Dana Watson.

This was different from the recognition of ordinary people.

Dana Watson had actually crossed swords with the head of House Featherwing before.

The pillar of storm clouds gradually convulsed and took shape. Angelene’s Answer trembled madly as though this was the first ti it had ever been pushed this far.

“Co. Here and now, let’s see the end.”

Having finished his preparations, Kairus swung his sword downward from the heavens toward the earth.

The storm clouds Kairus created descended.

No, it would be more accurate to say that an artificial typhoon crashed down toward a human being.

And Dana Watson swung her sword toward that typhoon.

Sword and cloud collided.

“Kh… gh… AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!”

Dana Watson’s entire body was crushed beneath the pressure. For the first ti in a very long while, she was driving her body all the way to its limits. Every blood vessel in her body burst apart, and every muscle in her entire body scread.

Kairus watched that scene with tense eyes.
