Strictly speaking, the person outside wasn’t just knocking; they were pounding on the door. After a mont of thought, he opened it, only to see a middle-aged man with a gloomy, furious face standing in the doorway.
"You’re Qin Mu, right?" The man questioned him directly.
Qin Mu nodded. His gaze, however, remained fixed on a courier package in the man’s hand.
"Good. The package you sent scared my son so badly he suffered an intracranial hypertensive hemorrhage and had to be hospitalized. I’m here to discuss compensation." The middle-aged man snorted coldly, getting straight to the point.
Qin Mu’s mouth twitched. Compensation? He’d already figured out what happened from the courier package. The recipient written on it was indeed himself, along with the building, unit, and apartnt numbers. That’s how the man had found him so quickly.
"Correct!" The middle-aged man puffed out his chest and said righteously, "Your package caused my son serious injuries, and he’s in a coma, still in the hospital. Are you thinking of shirking responsibility?"
"’Seriously injured and in a coma?’" Qin Mu paused again upon hearing this. Impressive. This online shop owner really had sothing. Worthy of being a new product. The horror mystery box actually had such a potent effect. So potent that... the thief’s family had personally co to his door demanding compensation.
"I’ll have you know, I’ve retained the evidence and taken photos!" The middle-aged man, Xu Ping, sneered, "You can’t escape this. If you’re not considering private compensation, then I have no choice but to call the police."

Seeing Qin Mu remain silent, Xu Ping continued, reciting the criminal law he had morized on the way, and threatened, "I’ll give you one more chance. If you’re unwilling to compensate privately, don’t bla for calling the police right now!"

Legally, extortion required using coercion or threats to unlawfully obtain property. This man’s actions... he was asking for compensation because his son was hospitalized; he had a valid reason for the claim, and the amount was reasonable. It was basically impossible to classify this as extortion. Of course, if he had asked for two hundred thousand... the outco would have been entirely different.
"What, you don’t want to compensate?" Seeing Qin Mu’s question, Xu Ping’s expression turned cold again.
Qin Mu just shrugged, not bothering to engage him further. He had hoped this man would ask for more, but he only requested a reasonable sum, showing no ambition whatsoever. Clearly, he had no intention of making an exorbitant demand. If it had been soone like Yang Minghui, they would have asked for at least a million by now.
"Since you’re set on not compensating, then I have no choice but to call the police." Xu Ping took a deep breath and took out his phone. He dialed 110. While waiting for the call to connect, he kept sneaking glances at Qin Mu’s reaction.
However, Qin Mu remained composed, showing no signs of panic. A slight smile played on his lips, and he even looked sowhat expectant.
"Laugh now. Wait until the police arrive, and we’ll see if you can still laugh!" Xu Ping snorted coldly. The call connected at that mont.
He quickly said to the operator, "Hello, I want to report a cri! Yes, my son was seriously injured by soone and is now hospitalized. I am currently in the Mountain and Water Garden District. Correct. I’ve cornered the perpetrator who hard my son, right at his doorstep in Building 10, Unit 2, xxxx. Hurry over..."
His words were coherent, his thoughts organized. He relayed all the information for the report with perfect clarity.
After hanging up, he stared coldly at Qin Mu, his expression clearly saying, "You’re finished."
Qin Mu was speechless. Watching the man’s series of actions, he suddenly didn’t know what to say. Call the man ignorant of the law? Yet he knew so many ways to assert his rights and demand reasonable compensation. Call him law-abiding? Yet his son had committed theft, and here he was, acting so brazenly! He even called the police himself! Qin Mu had been wondering how to find these people, and now this man had delivered himself right to his doorstep!
