Well, this was convenient. The entire investigation process for the parcel theft case could be skipped.
...
「Twenty minutes later.」
Shen Dao arrived at the scene with a team of police officers.
"As soon as I heard the door number, I had a feeling it was your place, kid!" Shen Dao stared at Qin Mu, quite surprised. "You called the police? Since when do you have a son?"
Originally, he wasn’t the one leading the team. But this address and door number were just too familiar. He had been here a few tis before while dealing with a case of objects being thrown from heights. And this ti, the call to the police... it seed to be about soone’s son being severely injured.
"Ahem, Officer, I’m the one who called the police."
Nearby, Xu Ping saw this and quickly stepped forward, admitting to it. He then accused Qin Mu of everything he had done.
"Officer, you have to stand up for ! My son is still in the hospital. That parcel of his is why my son is still unconscious..."
After hearing this, Shen Dao suddenly felt sothing was off. He couldn’t help but ask, "Wait, how did his parcel end up with your son?"
From Xu Ping’s description, he had grasped the basic situation: Xu Ping and Qin Mu did not know each other. For the parcel to show up in his son’s hands... that seed very odd.
"This... uh..." Xu Ping faltered, suddenly becoming hesitant.
He had known his son was stealing parcels for a while now. His son was always lazy. He hadn’t found a job after graduating from university and had been holed up at ho. Recently, he had beco obsessed with stealing parcels. He had scolded him several tis, but his son stubbornly refused to change, repeatedly offending. There was nothing he could do. He couldn’t exactly report his own son, could he?
"It’s like this: I bought a horror mystery box a couple of days ago," Qin Mu took the initiative to step forward and explain the subsequent events. "I was originally thinking of testing my own courage, but I didn’t expect..." Of course, the focus was on the parcel theft.
"Parcel theft?" Shen Dao frowned slightly, and he quickly recalled this case in the area. This theft case... had already been filed. But because there was no surveillance, they had not found the suspect. So it was all Xu Ping’s son’s doing!
"Officer, don’t listen to his nonsense! My son may be a bit of a petty thief, but he just took a few worthless parcels. He’s already in the hospital now..." Xu Ping quickly tried to explain for his son. "We are willing to pay for these parcels!"
"But he terrified my son into the hospital! We can’t just let this go!"
"My son now has an intracranial hemorrhage, which constitutes a serious injury! And *he*," Xu Ping said, pointing towards Qin Mu again as he spoke, "is resolutely refusing to compensate! You absolutely must not let him go!"
Comparatively, my son is just a petty thief. The things he stole are of very low value—either daily necessities or just random docunts and letters. It’s nowhere near as serious as what Qin Mu did, Xu Ping thought.
"Intentional injury?" Upon hearing this, Shen Dao couldn’t help but glance at Qin Mu.
The cri Xu Ping reported did have so rit. But... the problem was, the other party stole Qin Mu’s parcel. This act, strictly speaking, had nothing to do with Qin Mu. And an intentional injury offense requires subjective intent to illegally harm another person’s body to a certain extent to be constituted. Obviously, Qin Mu’s actions weren’t intentional. Thus, it didn’t constitute an intentional injury offense. And negligent injury... was even less applicable. This cri refers to a situation where one foresees that their actions might result in socially harmful outcos but, due to negligence, fails to foresee this, or foresees it but wrongly believes they can avoid it, ultimately leading to such results. Clearly, Qin Mu bought a horror mystery box online just for his own use. It wasn’t going to cause any socially harmful outcos and thus didn’t constitute a negligent injury offense. In fact, although Xu Ping’s son’s hospitalization was related to Qin Mu, in a legal sense, there was no connection. Therefore, Qin Mu bore no criminal responsibility whatsoever.
