He couldn’t help but offer a word of comfort. This case concerned his system rewards, and they were quite rare. He couldn’t possibly let it be lost.
Afterward, Qin Mu walked to the window and muttered to himself, "Judging by the ti, the court should have already confird the jury list, right?" There was less than two days left until the trial, and the court should have provided the preliminary list by now.
At that mont, he received a phone call notifying him and his clients to head to the court imdiately to confirm the selection of jurors for the formal trial. Upon receiving the ssage, he imdiately took Zhang Qingyuan, Feng Cuihua, and Chen Tiankuo with him and headed for the court.
Upon arriving at the court, they saw twenty-four personal profiles. These profiles contained detailed records of all circumstances concerning these twenty-four people. This included their nas, dates and places of birth, parents and relatives, family conditions, educational backgrounds, religious beliefs, and so on. Everything relevant was recorded.
The clerk, standing beside them, looked at Qin Mu and the other three and reminded them, "According to the regulations, the plaintiff’s side has already screened them once. This is the list of jurors they have confird. You can screen them now, and if you confirm there are no errors, just sign."
Typically, the jury is selected sequentially by the plaintiff and then the defendant. Only after the plaintiff completed their selection would it be their turn.
Qin Mu nodded. Then he stepped forward and opened the profiles.
Zhang Qingyuan and Feng Cuihua exchanged glances. They too walked up curiously, casually picked up a profile, and began to examine it closely. But... the text on the docunt was all in a foreign language, not the familiar Chinese characters. He couldn’t understand it at all and had to turn to the ’translator,’ Chen Tiankuo, beside him for help.
Chen Tiankuo’s mouth twitched as he took the profile from Zhang Qingyuan and scrutinized it.
"This person’s na is Bryce Abner. He grew up in As City and later dropped out of college. He tried to start his own business but failed. Now, he works as a chemical quality inspector in a company. He is a regular churchgoer, very devout in his beliefs, and has made several donations..."
As he read on, he furrowed his brows, his expression turning unsightly.
"This person’s na is Marjorie Osgoode. Her father is a devout believer. Her mother was a gang mber and was sentenced to forty years in prison when Marjorie was young..."
"This one’s na is Snowbunier. They were a street urchin since childhood, living by scavenging and enduring disdain. Now, they work as a custodian in a church, claiming their soul has found salvation..."
He flipped through each profile in turn, examining them closely. But he discovered... every individual detailed in these profiles had strong religious beliefs.
Clearly, this scenario had unfolded because George and his team had deliberately arranged it, attempting to use these people with church backgrounds to produce a verdict favorable to them.
"What?" Upon hearing this, Zhang Qingyuan and Feng Cuihua instantly beca anxious. After all this ti, they had co to understand what it ant for jurors to have religious biases. If these people were to serve as jurors... then they feared they wouldn’t win this lawsuit.
"Change them!" Facing the twenty-four profiles, Zhang Qingyuan suddenly said, "We could also replace all these people with non-believers to act as jurors, couldn’t we?"
He was dissatisfied with all of the current twenty-four individuals. He was even less willing to entrust the decision of his case to these people. Based on the current situation, the educational level of these twenty-four individuals was generally low. All were devout believers. The situation was extrely unfavorable for them.
"Indeed, it is ti for a change," Chen Tiankuo said, taking a deep breath and nodding. "We should at least swap in so people with ordinary backgrounds. These individuals have likely all made donations at so point and would probably deeply despise those who don’t honor their donation pledges."
He had been in As City for over a decade and knew the local situation. Church mbers... often held donation drives, raised funds, and built churches. For these devout individuals... signing a donation agreent and then refusing to donate was undoubtedly blasphemy against the Lord. God would surely punish such behavior. With this inherent bias, they would naturally be at a disadvantage during the trial.
However... Qin Mu smiled and said, "Actually, I think several of these profiles are quite good."
Chen Tiankuo was taken aback upon hearing this. He then saw Qin Mu pick out a few profiles and hand them to him, saying, "These individuals have decent character, and their educational levels are acceptable. I think we can keep them."
Chen Tiankuo gulped, took the profiles, and examined them carefully. But after scrutinizing them for a long ti, he found nothing particularly special. The so-called ’acceptable level of education’... at best ant so college dropout experience; they couldn’t even be considered full college graduates.
"Are you sure?" he asked doubtfully, looking at Qin Mu. All twenty-four of these profiles had been confird by George’s side. If they also confird the list... it would an their status as jurors would be officially established.
"Yes, Xiao Qin, this can’t be taken lightly. These religious people can be quite unreasonable," Zhang Qingyuan, standing beside them, chid in, his face tense with nervousness.
Feng Cuihua, who rarely spoke, also added, "How about we request the court not to select religious believers? If they find out we didn’t donate, they probably won’t even listen to our explanations."
