"Would you still marry her even if I said no?"
"Yeah."
Her father let out a sigh.
"Then what’s the point of asking?"
"I like formalities. I also want to get along with her parents, so you can see where I’m going with this, right?"
"I do. And since you’re being so persistent, I approve. Now let’s go downstairs for dinner. Don’t forget the rings."
Of course, I won’t.
I stored the rings carefully and then followed her father downstairs. The food was already prepared, and it wasn’t anything fancy. Just a few steaks and so bread.
Judging by how stressed her mother looked, I guessed Clentine had told her about the demon descent.
And when Clentine and I t eyes, she took a deep breath and began explaining everything to her father as well.
The mont she finished, silence descended upon the dinner table. It was a heavy silence, as one would expect.
But her father took it surprisingly well.
"Here I thought you were all this serious because Clentine announced her pregnancy. That’s a weight off my shoulders."
Way~ too well.
"D-Dad!"
"Hahaha! Sorry. I just thought I’d lighten the mood."
Clentine pouted and glanced between her parents and , trying her best to hide her embarrassnt.
I chuckled from the side and said:
"Try not to go out too much in the next couple of months for obvious reasons. Also, could you gather every single siren in one place? I want to do a quick sweep over their bodies to see if any of them are infected."
Of course, one of the first things I did when I entered this house was check if her parents were infected.
Thankfully, they weren’t.
"I can do that. I was actually planning on making a big announcent in an hour, so you can tag along. Do you need to touch the sirens to know their condition?"
I shook my head.
"I can see it with my eyes."
He nodded.
Just then, Clentine’s mother chid in.
"Why do I feel like I’m the only one who’s panicking about all of this? I an, the world’s going to end, isn’t it? Won’t all our food be cut off, and won’t demons just be everywhere?"
"Yes, dear, we’re screwed."
At her father’s words, her mother’s brow twitched. It really seed like she was ready to throw her unfinished steak at his face. But similarly to Clentine, she held back and began slowly eating.
Though at least now, I know where Clentine got her poutiness from.
Heh.
Aside from the demon descent’s announcent, the dinner went by smoothly. The food was great, and above all, I felt like I was starting to bond a bit more with her family.
Her father especially.
As for her mother...? We haven’t really talked much. If I dragged her aside to talk, Clentine would sense that sothing was up.
The last thing I wanted was Clentine sohow breaking through my Telekinesis barriers and listening in on my conversations with her parents.
Anyhow, Clentine’s father soon stood up and nodded at .
"The sirens should all be gathered now. I’d say we should all go, but my dear wife isn’t very strong. The last thing I want is to put her in danger."
"So Clentine, do you mind staying here for a bit? Watch your mother for a bit."
Clentine surprisingly nodded and didn’t make a fuss about it.
As for her mother, she just puffed out her cheeks and turned her head away with a pout.
I felt relieved, and so alongside her father, we stepped outside. Imdiately, I saw a giant crowd of sirens gathered at the very bottom of the ravine.
Upon closer look, there was a giant coral cave opening there. I could even see inside it through the cracks in the walls.
It was so kind of auditorium, maybe?
We descended through one of the cracks. There was a makeshift coral podium on which Clentine’s father stood. As for , I stood beside him.
Just then, the sirens finally stepped into the auditorium. So seed uneasy, while others looked guilty.
...I’m starting to feel like this eting was called for so other reason rather than a special announcent.
When everyone was finally there, Clentine’s father cleared his throat and began to speak.
"Thank you all for coming. As much as I’d like to make this formal, the recent actions of so sirens have left us slightly vulnerable."
What...?
"As sirens, we tolerate a lot. But infighting? Swimming around recklessly? Attacking ships for no reason and leaving a massive trace back to us?"
His expression hardened.
"Have we learned nothing? Nothing at all?"
"..."
"Today, I planned to announce that my wife and I are expecting a baby. But sadly, that announcent must be followed by an execution. Those of you who are currently feeling a burning sensation in your throat, step up."
Wait...
Did he just say they were expecting?
I felt like my mind had shut down for a mont, as Clentine’s father had literally just delivered the biggest piece of news like it was nothing.
What do you an you’re expecting?
Does that an Clentine’s going to be a sister?
Then will I be an uncle?
Just what...
Past the gasps that resounded from the shocked and excited sirens, there were a few sirens who had begun bleeding from their mouths.
And those very sa sirens were put on the spot the mont the other sirens moved away from them, allowing everyone to see the 13 guilty sirens.
Even Clentine’s father just stared at them without remorse.
After a minute passed, they tumbled to their knees. Then after just another minute, they stopped breathing.
"Take away their bodies and feed them to the fish. As for the rest of you, our ho has been revealed, so we must move. Be ready first thing in the morning, as those who are not ready will be left behind."
With that, he clapped his hands once, his expression turning even more stern.
"You may now leave."
