A drop of blood landed on my katana. I glanced around, quickly realizing that no one else was here. Yet the screaming and sounds of familiar slaughter continued.
I wasn’t stupid. I knew this was an illusion, and it clearly was ant to throw off so that the Demon King, or whoever, could invade my head.
Sadly for him, I wasn’t in the mood to have my mind ssed with.
"Free now, and I might just spare your life after this is all over."
My brows twitched in annoyance, so I took a step forward. The screams grew even louder, each one representing the voices of my family.
But instead of feeling distraught, saddened, or even wrathful... all I felt was nostalgia and relief.
Whatever form it may be, I had actually started to forget how my parents sounded. Even the village people who had taken care of , given sweets, and spent ti out of their day to watch practice swordsmanship tirelessly.
I was glad.
And as if the Realm of Despair couldn’t accept that, it made all the screams abruptly vanish. Now, there was only a wide canyon in front of , and so hint of a golden light at the very end.
It was a silly attempt to make follow along. So instead, I decided to do the obvious.
I raised my katana, and although I wasn’t able to use my energy in the slightest, aura was sothing they could never take away from . The warmth of my aura washed over my body, reminding of why exactly these demons could never stand a chance against .
And finally, I swung my katana horizontally. It sliced through the space in front of , dyeing the sky red and completely distorting the Realm of Despair.
Yet I wasn’t done with only one slash, as I repeatedly brought my katana down, slashing everything in sight, until eventually, there was no Realm of Despair to speak of. There was only a pitch-black realm which, although creepy, allowed to use my energy.
And of course, when I had my energy, I could further amplify my aura. With one final slash, I tore open space to a whole different location. As it so happened, that location was none other than the Demon Realm where I had been fighting a mont ago.
Except now, there was sothing really off about this place. For one, it was very quiet. Only when I turned toward Amon and Clentine did I see sothing shocking.
The Demon King who had been attacking us earlier, and the sa Demon King who had tossed into that realm... he was now hovering in the air, his body split into several dozen pieces as a pitch-black, one-eyed raven slowly tore his body apart.
It was grueso, even for my standards. Yet the mont the raven spotted , I felt a chill run down my spine. I blinked, and the raven was gone. What replaced it was the sa chill from before, as well as a pair of eyes staring at from behind.
When I turned around, I saw a man who strangely resembled Amon. Yet the energy of this man was the sa as that raven’s.
"If you could’ve done sothing like this from the very start, why’d you wait so long?" I asked with a scoff.
The raven bowed and quickly introduced itself.
"My na’s Morr. As for why I waited so long... it’s simply because that’s what I deem to be the most valuable lesson to both Amon and Clentine."
"Lesson?"
He nodded.
"A lesson that allows them to put aside their past. A lesson that makes them a better version of who they are."
I narrowed my eyes slightly. From what I observed, this raven was Amon’s Guardian. As his Guardian, this raven shouldn’t even have a single thought about ever betraying Amon or doing sothing so risky.
I, for one, knew firsthand just how grueso that Realm of Despair could be. I could only imagine those two were experiencing sothing just as bad.
So with that in mind, I decided to go with the most straightforward approach. I drew my katana and pointed it at Morr before saying:
"We’re all on the sa side, so release them. You can teach them in so other way rather than directly torturing them."
Morr smiled. "It’s in your best interests to run away now, Aliyah. Soon, several Demon Emperors will descend. You may be able to handle one at full power, but look at you. You’re weak now, drained of power. You’re just swinging that flimsy katana around."
He then pointed at both Amon and Clentine.
"Unlike you, these two have their ti accelerated. For you, it might’ve been a few minutes. For them, it might’ve been months or years. Whatever the case may be, they will erge stronger and then defeat the Demon Emperors before finally escaping."
Aha...
Yeah.
I knew sothing was off with this damn raven since the first ti I saw it.
But seeing how it had dismbered that Demon King so easily, it was obvious it was soone who was at least on my level, or slightly higher.
Yet right as I was about to engage in a fight, I was t with a surprising sight. Clentine’s hand suddenly twitched. A mont later, she opened her eyes, as a single tear stread down her cheek.
She seed heartbroken more than anything. But not only that, she looked extrely angry as she narrowed her eyes at Morr and said:
"I overheard everything. Help out Amon now, and I’ll make sure he doesn’t disband the contract between you two once he wakes up."
Morr stared at her. For a mont, I could’ve sworn I felt a deep killing intent radiating from Morr. And just then, his figure blurred as I felt his energy reappear beside Clentine.
I imdiately reacted, crossing the distance in a re instant. I saw Clentine’s body glow silver for a mont as her eyes turned cloudy. Her whole posture shifted, and from all of my experience, her posture resembled that of a swordsman.
This girl was always bad at swordsmanship, and to top it all off, I saw a faint, almost invisible energy escape that body and fly away to safety. I didn’t think much of it, as despite my reaction ti, I was too late.
STAB!
Morr had thrust his hand straight through her heart. He pulled it out, and then narrowed his eyes at my incoming slash, blocking it effortlessly with just one finger.
To my dismay, Clentine’s body fell into the ocean, and as Morr held her heart in one hand and stopped my sword in the other, he suddenly crushed her heart, splashing blood all over himself.
Then, once he wiped so of it off, he t my gaze with a slight smile.
"My brother almost succeeded in turning him into the perfect weapon last ti... but sadly, Amon managed to injure him with his own attack. It was a true pity, to say the least."
Brother...?
"But that’s no matter. A new wave of change is about to crash down onto the Demon Realm, and soon, the Human Realm. Amon’s going to be the center of that change. As for you...?"
His smile widened.
"You may go back to where you ca from."
SNAP!
