[Amon’s POV]

This darkness has lasted far too long.

I had almost lost count of how many years I’ve spent in this place. Maybe it even began to rival how long I had spent when I was first tossed into a completely dark realm.

It was a pity I couldn’t escape. But the thought of Clentine waiting back there for was more than enough to keep going. For one, I didn’t have to worry about our safety, since I had Morr to pull us both out of the Demon Realm if things went south.

I continued to just laze around and hum to myself for countless more days or weeks, until finally, I felt sothing or soone pulling back.

It was as if I had just woken up from a very, very long sleep. I could tell that much from how long my beard felt. Could it have been weeks? Months, maybe?

However long it was, I didn’t feel it nearly as much as I expected it to. Perhaps that was because it’s not my first ti.

But whatever the case may be, when I glanced around the room, I realized that I wasn’t in my room back in our house. Upon closer look, I realized I wasn’t even back in my world.

The miasma was a clear reminder of that.

What am I still doing here, though...?

Did Morr not take us out of here?

[Sorry... I failed once again,] Morr said quietly.

My brows furrowed.

"After reassuring many tis and doing so many tests, you failed again?"

[It was inevitable. The Demon Emperors arrived, and I couldn’t stand a chance against them,] Morr reasoned.

But whatever his reasoning was, why did it take him so long? The place we were fighting in was so far away from the capital or any actual city. There was no way the Demon Emperors could’ve arrived there in under an hour.

I rose from the bed, my thoughts swirling in a mix of annoyance and frustration. It almost made feel like all this torture I had gone through for so long was just a joke. It didn’t an anything.

And to make matters worse, no matter where I looked, I couldn’t feel Clentine’s presence.

"Where is she?"

I felt my anger boil, and I didn’t hesitate to latch onto Morr’s presence and forcefully pull him out of my mind. Yet to my surprise, instead of his raven form, he currently looked like a human. Not to ntion, he looked nearly identical to .

"Answer , Morr. Where is Clentine?"

Morr lowered his head. "I apologize, but I wasn’t able to save her."

"Save her? I asked where she is, Morr," I replied, grabbing him by the collar.

"She’s not dead. I know that much. So what happened to her? Tell , or I’ll break our contract now."

"..."

Morr’s expression hardened. His eyes gained a tad bit more life as opposed to before, but that didn’t make his next words sting any less.

"When the Demon Emperors arrived, they pierced her through the heart and tossed her into the red ocean. Aliyah managed to escape with her life intact, but sadly... I don’t see a world where Clentine could’ve survived that fatal blow. I’m sorry, Amon. I’m afraid she’s dead."

I just stared at him, unable to believe his words. But the expression on his face made let him go and take a few steps back. I leaned against the bed fra, my head aching and my heart thumping loudly.

...She’s dead?

Clentine is dead?

No...

I refuse to accept that.

I clutched my chest and, through my blurry vision and my ever-increasing panic, I glanced over at Morr.

"Where’s her body?"

"I told you. It’s in the ocean."

"And you didn’t even try to retrieve it? You didn’t even try to help?"

I approached Morr with slow steps and then threw a punch right at his cheek. He didn’t even budge an inch, simply staring back at .

"You may be angry, and I would be too if I was in your position. It’s just that, no matter what you say or do right now, you won’t be able to bring her back. Accept it and move on. You’re a man, and a being who has the potential to lead millions of demons. Do not waste it on feeble emotions such as love."

He turned his head slightly.

"There are plenty of beautiful won who can replace her, and with your current status, you may marry into demonic royalty and use those rings you had forged for Clentine to better your status in the Demon Realm. There is no other choice, Amon."

"..."

"Get the fuck out of my room."

A wave of killing intent escaped my body, unrestrained and feral, containing hundreds of years of pain and suffering, all just so I could et Clentine again.

If she’s really dead, what am I supposed to do now?

What was even the point anymore?

I glanced at the butter knife on the table, and with a flick of my wrist, I brought it right up to my neck. But before I could slash my neck, I halted.

She’s not dead.

She can’t be dead because of how many precautions I had put in place.

The artifacts I had given her could prevent her from instant death, and I was 110% certain Aliyah would never just abandon us. She most definitely wouldn’t abandon Clentine, as she knows just how much I care about her.

This is... odd.

Sothing about this whole situation is strange, and I couldn’t yet put my finger on it.

But if there was even a small glimr of hope that Clentine was alive... then there’s no point in taking my own life.

Also...

[Objective: Survive The Realm of Despair]

There’s still this left to check.

"..."

I’ll only ever resort to sothing so drastic when I see her lifeless body myself.

"You still haven’t gotten the fuck out of my room," I said.

"Only when you put that knife down," Morr replied.

I narrowed my eyes.

"Bring so food, and bring the Demon Emperor who brought here. Now. As I said already, you are a nuisance, so get out of my room. Now."
