We ordered so food, waited a couple minutes, and with the restaurant completely empty, we didn’t have to worry about any of the onlookers.
Jenna sat opposite us, while on the other hand, Clentine and I clung to each other subconsciously. Jenna had noticed that too, but aside from so comics she must’ve read, she seed pretty naive in how she perceived relationships.
"So do you guys, like, eat together or sothing?" Jenna asked out of nowhere. "I an... couples do a lot of stuff, right? Eating together must be one of them." She started taking bites out of the chicken wing.
I let out a chuckle, and right as I was about to say sothing, Clentine spoke up instead.
"We do a lot of things. Many we have yet to try, but yes. Eating together is one of those things, yes."
She seed very formal, and I wasn’t exactly used to seeing her like this. It was almost like the Clentine I was currently seeing was the Siren Queen I had first t. She was cold, distant.
But still very gentle.
"Ah? Oh. So you must be Evangeline. Is Clentine your real na?"
Clentine nodded, and then went on to tell Jenna about her childhood. I had heard most of what she was saying before, which was why I felt like these two might get along well.
Both of them were sheltered, and both of them had people trying to oppress them. It was obviously sad, but the main reason why I brought Jenna to Clentine was so she would know she wasn’t the only one who went through such hell.
And for the cherry on top, I wanted Jenna to see just what ca out of soone who had gone through such an experience. A lovely woman who cared about the people close to her, but really despised those who tried to enter her inner circle.
Frankly, I was surprised she was even open to the idea of helping out this many people and acting as their ruler. If I was in her shoes and went through the sa stuff, I’d hate to even be put in a remotely close position of power.
I would just feel sick to my stomach.
And I knew she must be feeling that too, but whether she was doing this for or to cure her own trauma, I wasn’t sure. Still, hearing the two of them talk and then having so actual food for once in a while felt amazing.
In fact, I wasn’t this at peace in a very, very long ti, to the point that I felt like I could let my guard down. But before I could do so, I halted, realizing that if I let my guard down and a Divine Beast decided to unleash so nuclear attack on this place, we’d all be dead.
So despite what I wanted, I continued being tense and on high alert. On the bright side, I had completely severed the connection between Morr and myself back in the Demon Realm. There was no way he could find now, unless he left so kind of residue.
Though that residue, I had managed to get rid of because of Indra’s help.
Anyhow...
"What about you, Amon? What was your childhood like?" Jenna asked out of nowhere.
I tilted my head slightly at her words. "Mm... my childhood?"
My mind traveled into the distant past, but for so reason... it was eerily empty. I vaguely rember having parents and even plenty of caretakers, but all I could see now were faceless faces, as well as uneven structures.
More importantly, among many of the structures, there were plenty that were theoretically impossible to even exist in my old world. In fact, it was almost like energy itself had done its work over there.
And after this brief encounter with my past, I realized that Divine Energy had already done its job on my psyche. The past I had once thought I had... it was gone. Maybe it was back when I was trapped in the Realm of Despair? Was that when it happened?
I played that ga for so long... I beat it so many tis... And then I was trapped in darkness for what felt like years. Was that when I forgot my past? If I don’t have my past, what am I left with?
The present? What even is my present? From the mont I ca to this world, I was put through nothing but suffering. Endless suffering that only ceased once I found Clentine.
Noticing my expression paling slightly, Clentine went ahead and placed her hand over mine, calming down slightly. Then she glanced over to Jenna and said:
"His childhood is similar to ours. That’s all."
"O-Oh..." Jenna was caught a bit off guard, but she didn’t let that ruin her appetite as she dug into her food once more, devouring it quickly. Once she was done with the chicken, she picked up so salad and spoke up once more.
"So did you two really get to know my father because you fought against him? Was it when he joined that evil man to kill so demons?"
Clentine nodded. "Yes. We were among the few people who fought against Kai and Vincent. Vincent was pretty weak in comparison to Kai, but that didn’t change the fact that his illusions were very effective."
"Also... I’m not sure if Amon has told you, but we weren’t responsible for what happened in the Harper Citadel. It was all Kai’s doing."
She’d probably beat the shit out of if I told her Kai was now my underling.
Ahem...
"Ah... right, my father did say you guys interrupted so ritual and because of that, the explosion happened. Or did he lie about that too?"
"No, that was our doing..." Clentine mumbled. "But I can assure you, we didn’t an any of it."
Jenna simply smiled. "It’s fine. I don’t bla you two. You were nice to , and you helped escape from my father. When he cos looking for , I’ll show him just how strong I’ve gotten."
Both Clentine and I just gave her an empty smile, all the while she began listing her plans of defeating her father in combat.
I wonder what she will do when she figures out he’s dead?
Well...
I’ll tackle that problem once I get to it.
For the ti being...
"Eat up, and then let’s go sowhere private. I want you to show your wings to Clentine."
"Um!"
