The air around beca heavy and a chill ran down my spine, rembering the reward from last ti, a little nervously I responded with an order in my mind. Instantly. Notifications began to appear, one after another, filling my vision. I didn’t have ti to process the first one before the next one slid in front of my eyes. What the hell is going on? I thought, unable to clear the confusion that took hold of .

[The host has been detected to have leveled up, eliminating one of the demonic minions. The system grants the affinity trait «Măĝî»]

I stood there bewildered, staring at the screen with wide eyes. Măĝî, that dangerous word made my stomach turn. That trait... it was the sa corrosive essence that demons use. It’s a corrupted energy that grants greater explosive power, but in exchange you end up becoming a slave to your own desires, your mindset changes to that of a more cruel and violent being. I couldn’t believe that the system had granted that ability, sothing exclusive to demons and their contractors. (djinns)

The counter was advancing rapidly, and I continued to watch, paralyzed, as the loading bar filled up. Should I be happy about this or terrified? The power of that energy was tempting, but at the sa ti... I knew it well, it was not sothing one wanted to use lightly.

Finally, the screen flickered and another notification appeared:

[Congratulations, you have left a deep impression on Princess Rachel. The system rewards you with 8000 points.]

I had earned more points, I still wasn’t sure what to spend them on, so I decided to accumulate them.

I quickly checked the amount of points I had... I still wasn’t sure what to spend them on. To be honest, I felt like a child who suddenly finds a bag full of new toys and is asked to choose just one, I had no idea what to do. I should improve my magic power, or maybe distribute it evenly... I didn’t know, the only thing on my mind was that I should be more sensible.

Tring!

An irritating sound vibrated in my head. A new ssage appeared:

[The system informs you that the "Măĝî" function is available. [Check your status window]

Without further thought, with a simple command in my mind, I opened the system and took a look at my stats:

_________

Na: Cyan Vesper

[Level: 12 ] E

- Agility: E [ 11/15 ]

- Măĝî : F [1/5 ]

- Intelligence: E (unchanged)

The screen flickered for a second. That new feature... the Măĝî, was clearly visible, it was activated, but it was still at its extrely low rank. I didn’t know if I should invest my points right now, or if it was better to wait. I looked at the system carefully. I had gained 6 points, all that bitter experience had beco a "blessing in disguise". Although I wasn’t sure what to do with them.

For a mont, I considered it... What if I increased the demonic power? Perhaps, the Măĝî would soon beco sothing much more useful. But... I also thought: wouldn’t this be too risky? Demonic energy isn’t sothing that can be controlled, it’s more instinct than anything else, that’s why it was so dangerous. Would I be able to resist it or would I end up losing my humanity?

It’s too dangerous to try to control that power. But it was still worth a try, in this world strength was everything. The weak end up dying without being able to do anything, I knew I wouldn’t be able to face the future if I didn’t take the risk.

I was still feeling indecisive, the constant bombardnt had hit like a hamr, I was unable to make a right decision. Now, I was at a loss. Should I upgrade the Măĝî or focus on other stats? I wasn’t sure how that corrupt power could affect my mind, but at the sa ti, the desire to beco stronger and save the students was overwhelming . How far could I go if I used it? I wondered, looking at the horizon.

In the end, I decided to let it go. Maybe tomorrow I’ll co up with sothing, I told myself as I closed my eyes and went to bed. The day had been quite long, the news in my mind kept spinning, tiredness forced to rest. Maybe when I woke up I’d have a clearer vision, maybe the answer would co naturally, or maybe not. In the end, it all depended on what I did next. But for now, it was better to let ti pass.

***

The next morning I continued with the sa routine as always. From classes to training, from training to classes... nothing had changed. Ti was passing extrely quickly and I realized more and more that I was close. Only four days before the dungeon raid. All the necessary items I had prepared were already stored in the system’s storage space, and now I just had to wait.

But there was sothing that weighed on : I couldn’t let any of those children die. I had made my resolution, I had prepared for anything that could arise, but that feeling of responsibility didn’t go away. I couldn’t let anyone perish, I was sure I could prevent it.

With that determination in mind, I left the classroom and headed to the alchemy room. Today we were finally free from so much theory. We had spent weeks writing complex formulas, learning ingredients, repeating every little detail over and over again. It was no wonder that more than half of those present, myself included, had ended up falling asleep at so point or losing motivation along the way. The theory had been endless, a boring and tedious path to perfection, but the practice would be different. It was what we all expected.

When we entered the alchemy room, the teacher stood in front of the class and looked at us all, that mischievous smile gave goosebumps, sothing was brewing.

"Students, as you know, today we will do the practical class. You are trying to recreate the mana recovery potion, the most basic of all. To make it not too complicated, you will form groups of three. These will be random, so don’t worry," she said, while moving a small bag in front of us. "In this bag there are 15 colored sticks. Each of you will put your hand in and take one out. If you get the sa color, you will form a group with that person."

The teacher, although her expression today was very different, almost seed to be satisfied with her idea, as if she had planned this mont in advance. So faces in the room lit up, while others reflected a mixture of doubt and resignation. Soone in the background tried to object, but stopped short when he saw the teacher’s firm gaze.

—I will not accept protests! If you want to be alchemists, at least learn to work with others —said the teacher, maintaining her energetic but playful tone—. Get out so toothpicks!

One by one, they approached the place where the teacher was, stretched out their hands and put them inside the bag, looking for the toothpick that their group had assigned them, after a few monts so ca out with happy expressions and others dejected. The murmur in the air was evident and growing louder, but even so, everyone was extrely grateful not to have to do the theoretical class again. Even for , that kind of work was unbearable.

I didn’t realize it, but it was my turn. With a slow but firm gait, I walked to the front, aware of the eyes following . The teacher watched briefly before indicating that I should proceed.

I approached the bag and put my hand in delicately, each of my movents seen from the outside looking elegant and polished. The soft fabric brushed my fingers, and a feeling of uncertainty invaded for a mont. Without hesitation, I pulled my hand up and took out the toothpick and looked at the tip. Blue.

It took a couple of seconds for my mind to process the color. Blue... who are my classmates? I looked around searching among the groups. The teacher, seeing like that, didn’t say anything else, she just nodded, indicating that I should go back to my place while the others continued to take out their chopsticks.

While the others finished, I watched. There was a girl who was heading to the center where the teacher was. Her self-assured walk caught my attention. Looking at her more closely, I noticed her beautiful blue hair. I imdiately realized who it was, Cynthia. She soon arrived at the place, looked at the teacher and put her hand in the bag. The lyrics were focused on her. Everyone knew that she was very intelligent and had a special interest in alchemy, so with their fingers crossed, the students, especially the boys, waited for her with enthusiasm.

I also wondered who her partner would be.

At that mont, her hand ca out of the bag, between her fingers rested a chopstick with a blue tip, just like .

I couldn’t believe it... does that an we’re in the sa group?
