"Cousin... Sis..." Gentry Chapman caught up, his face woeful.

"Does it still hurt, little sis?" Patrick Thorne asked, his heart aching as he looked at the dark bruise on his sister’s arm. It was even darker and bigger than before, covering half her arm.

"It hurts..."

Xiaonan Thorne nodded, shooting a pitiful glance at Adrian Hawthorne, who was standing beside her.

Adrian Hawthorne guiltily turned his head away. ’He felt a pang of regret; he should have used less force. Who knew this chubby girl’s skin was so delicate? It was softer than tofu.’

"I want to go to the movie theater!" Xiaonan Thorne declared.

She still rembered the arrangent between Adrian Hawthorne and Emmitt to et after lunch. Adrian had actually planned on going alone, but since Xiaonan Thorne brought it up, he figured he might as well take her along. He could just buy her so snacks later.

The group went to the movie theater, where Emmitt was already selling movie stills. "Twenty cents a piece, fifty cents for three... Stills from ’i Niang’..."

Adrian Hawthorne bought a bag of sunflower seeds, giving it to Amanda Chapman and Xiaonan Thorne to shell and eat. Xiaonan Thorne’s heart sank. ’She didn’t even have her molars yet; how was she supposed to shell these?’

Amanda Chapman cracked a seed with her teeth. The tip was coated in a bit of her saliva. When she shelled it and revealed the kernel, it too was glistening with spit. Xiaonan Thorne felt even more dismayed and turned her head away. ’There was no way she was going to eat her cousin’s spit-covered seeds.’

Amanda Chapman, however, ate them with great relish. She hardly ever got to eat sunflower seeds at ho; her grandmother would often eat them in secret, leaving Amanda to only sll the aroma, which made her crave them all the more. Today, she could finally satisfy that craving. ’So delicious!’

After selling a batch, Emmitt ca over to greet them. "My mom said you can just develop the movie stills yourself; you don’t need to order them as stock. She doesn’t have many postcards on hand either—she needs to go south for a new supply. She’s mostly selling stills these days, hardly any postcards."
