Zhang Yu considers herself a cold person, with average relationships with others, and a deanor that says "don’t bother " all over.
But during the days she spent on the ship, she could definitely be considered a social butterfly; too many people wanted to chat with her.
Initially, it was inquiries about the situation in Harbor City, but over ti, the topics expanded, from dostic and international classics to current trends, as well as the delicacies from Harbor City, Zhang Yu could talk about them all effortlessly.
What surprised them even more was that, although Zhang Yu had never been abroad, she spoke fluent English.
"Originally, my family hoped I could study abroad and hired a foreign language tutor for ," Zhang Yu explained tactfully why her English was so good.
As for being able to speak fluent Cantonese shortly after arriving in Harbor City, she said, "Once there, speaking Mandarin was possible, but more people spoke Cantonese."
"English is mainly used for communication among the upper classes."
"During my ti living in Harbor City, I haven’t had many opportunities to use English, which is partly because I haven’t attended social gatherings," Zhang Yu jokingly remarked.
Before others could tease her, Zhang Yu preemptively poked fun at herself.
Hearing Zhang Yu speak like this, those who initially wanted to make fun of her had no choice but to stay silent.
So felt that this version of Zhang Yu was very genuine; even if the family was wealthy, not many could afford to study abroad.
Although so could say a few words in English, it was usually the simplest greetings. Previously, they hesitated to move south for reasons beyond attachnt to their holand.
More importantly, they worried that once in Harbor City, they wouldn’t be able to communicate with others, whether in English or Cantonese, neither of which they knew.
If not for changes in the Mainland and friends who moved south earlier saying good things about Harbor City, they wouldn’t have wanted to move south.
Now, hearing Zhang Yu’s words, they felt relieved, "Is learning Cantonese easy?"
"It’s both easy and not easy, hard and yet still sowhat easy."
"Though many from the Mainland are coming over, nurous departnt staff there don’t speak much English, mostly speaking Cantonese."
"While it’s possible to hire a translator, it’s impractical to carry one everywhere, so learning Cantonese is a must, even if you only reassure yourself it’s easy."
Zhang Yu expressed that this was her mindset, hence her persistent effort in learning English, "You all don’t know, I even dream of going out but no one responds to when asking for directions because I can’t speak Cantonese."
These words were Zhang Yu rambling, ant to explain why she learned Cantonese quickly.
"I can only rely on myself; how can I not try harder?" After all, she’s a single mother, so she speaks bluntly.
Everyone seed thoughtful, indeed, if there were a fallback, who would think of going out to venture at an older age?
Now that they had already set out, it was a fight with no way back.
Even though they hadn’t reached Harbor City yet, they had a preliminary understanding of the situation there, and this gave them a slight sense of relief.
By the ti the ship docked at the Harbor City pier, everyone’s feelings had beco quite familiar.
They all agreed to visit Zhang Yu’s ho once there, and so were frank, expressing a desire to beco her neighbor if possible.
What made Zhang Yu happy was that during these days, Zhang Zejun and Zhang Ji were quite active in buying houses and villas.
Though not as grand as her family’s current villa, they are considered hillside villas and are regarded as luxury hos in Harbor City.
Zhang Yu naturally didn’t hesitate to recomnd them to newly t friends. So considered investing, but Zhang Yu tactfully declined.
Upon hearing the offer, Zhang Zejun and Zhang Han felt their hearts race, as the value increased by twenty percent in just a few months, they felt the business was promising.
Seeing the excitent in them, Zhang Yu calmly asked two questions, "Can you still buy a villa like this in a similar location?"
"Harbor City’s property prices, never mind the past, from the ti we bought properties there to now, how much have they risen?"
Just these two questions were enough to silence the two who regretted missing the chance to make money.
"Without being able to buy a house in the sa location, what’s the use of having money?"
"They’re paying a high price to buy the house, are we really profiting?"
"Houses will beco even scarcer in the future." Wealthy people prefer living in villas, "besides gathering a big family together, more importantly, it shows prestige."
In the past, so regretted not being able to buy a villa at the top of the mountain, settling for one halfway up the hill; now, who would regret it?
Having a villa halfway up the hill on one’s na is already a pretty good thing, gives one face when going out.
"If we sell the house now, soone would surely laugh at us for being short-sighted."
This point Zhang Yu is very certain, "Last ti so failed to find a satisfying house, and now another batch of people have arrived; Harbor City’s house prices."
Zhang Yu knows the push upward will be relentless, "By the way, any news about the land?"
Given that more people are buying houses, Zhang Yu feels it’s unnecessary to compete in it, better to step back and find a different way to profit.
During these days, Zhang Zejun also leveraged Zhang Han’s connections to establish ties with so British individuals in the Hong Governnt, "There’s so land over at Happy Valley, not far from the racecourse."
Zhang Zejun briefly shared the information he had gathered and the situation with the land.
Land at Happy Valley? Zhang Yu imdiately sat up straight; that place is definitely pri, although considered remote now, hence the racecourse.
Once Harbor City develops, it will surely flourish more, such a good place could have factories dismantled and residences built, rather than selling, it’s better to rent them out.
"It’s quite a good piece of land, why does no one seem interested?" Though right now it appears slightly off, yet so have even gone across to build factories.
"It wasn’t released before, so few knew about it." Maintaining ties with the Hong Governnt is precisely for early access to information.
"Besides, the land appears vast, and the location not bad, but there are so swamps."
"The area is not small." After learning the news, Zhang Zejun drove over to take a look and chatted thoroughly with locals.
Just a chat revealed such challenges within.
Upon hearing about the swamps, Zhang Han found it reasonable, "Otherwise, soone would’ve taken it already."
Our family has connections, but do others not?
"I think it’s doable," Zhang Han expressed his opinion.
Zhang Yu of course had no objections, "Although there are swamps, they’re not a big issue."
"The location is good; it can be filled or made into a pond, whether raising fish or planting lotus flowers, it’ll look pleasant."
Leaving it as a pond for now, it’s also an excellent small community landscaping if turned into residences later.
Zhang Zejun glanced up at Zhang Yu, rembering her suggestion.
