"Please... don’t go."

Ningyan parted his lips, unsure how to respond to the desperate plea.

He glanced at ishan.

ishan had opened his eyes as well, the erald glow around him fading slightly as he t Ningyan’s gaze. The surprise in his expression made it clear that he didn’t know what to do either.

Ningyan sighed softly and cupped Hai Miao’s small face, gently wiping the tears streaming down his cheeks. The boy’s shoulders trembled as quiet sobs escaped him.

"Don’t cry, Xiao-Miao," Ningyan said softly. "I promise we’ll return to you."

That didn’t seem to comfort him.

More tears spilled from Hai Miao’s eyes.

So Ningyan leaned closer and whispered gently, "I pinky promise that we’ll return to you."

Hai Miao blinked, his crying slowing. "Pinky promise?"

Ningyan smiled and nodded.

He raised his hand and extended his pinky finger.

Hai Miao stared at it for a mont before looking back at Ningyan.

"Go ahead," Ningyan encouraged.

The boy slowly raised his small hand, curling his fingers into a fist until only his pinky remained.

Ningyan hooked their fingers together and said dramatically, "I, Su Ningyan, pinky promise to return to the adorable Hai Miao."

That finally brought a smile to the boy’s tear-streaked face.

Seeing him laugh again filled Ningyan with relief.

Nearby, ishan quietly watched the entire scene with a faint smile.

After Hai Miao had cald down, the servant returned and led the boy away so he could play with the other children.

Soon, Ningyan and ishan returned to the chamber they were temporarily staying in.

Ningyan imdiately threw himself onto the bed like a starfish.

Lan ishan sat calmly at the edge of the bed, watching him with a thoughtful expression.

"The pinky promise," ishan suddenly said.

Ningyan lifted his head and looked at him.

"What about it?" he asked with a small smile.

ishan tilted his head slightly. "Is it stronger than a normal promise?"

He looked genuinely curious.

Ningyan pushed himself upright and crawled across the bed before settling comfortably on ishan’s lap.

ishan imdiately wrapped his arms around him.

"Yes," Ningyan poked his cheek playfully. "It’s stronger."

ishan nodded seriously, clearly taking the explanation to heart.

Then he suddenly raised his hand.

"Let’s make our own pinky promise."

Ningyan blinked in surprise. "Sure."

He raised his hand and extended his pinky.

ishan copied the gesture.

Then ishan said calmly, "Promise we’ll get married."

Ningyan froze. Married?!

Was he ready for that?

Why was it so sudden?!

His heart skipped a beat.

ishan stared at him with a completely serious expression.

Ningyan leaned closer, placing his hands on ishan’s shoulders as he searched his eyes for hesitation.

But there was none.

ishan looked completely sincere.

Ningyan slowly leaned back. "You really want us to get married?"

ishan frowned slightly, clearly confused. "Why shouldn’t we?"

Ningyan pressed his lips together thoughtfully.

He had already scattered the original plot completely.

He had escaped Yan Wuhen’s toxic trap of a relationship. He had succeeded in keeping Lan ishan’s other personality buried. And sohow, against all odds, he had ended up together with the Lan ishan who had originally been discarded in the novel.

But the villain path...

That was what worried him.

At first, Ningyan had believed that as long as he stayed away from cultivating demonic qi and kept the male leads out of his life, everything would be fine.

And it had worked, for a while.

Now he was with Lan ishan, and the future that had once seed impossible had beco real.

But lately...

It felt like he had beco a magnet for chaos.

His stepmother had already sent assassins after him. Many of them wielded demonic tools.

And because of that...

Innocent beasts had died.

The thought filled Ningyan with so much rage and killing intent that sotis he felt like he could march straight into the Phoenix Clan and wipe them all out.

Just like the original Ningyan had.

But wouldn’t that only push him right onto the villain’s path?

Yes, he wanted to confront, or even kill Madam Qin Linhua.

After all, she was the one trying to kill him.

He had only wanted to stay far away from all of them.

But now that he was growing stronger, he could feel sothing changing inside him.

Sothing dark. Cold. Ancient.

He was trying to be good.

He really was.

But innocent beasts had already died because of him.

And he didn’t know what to do anymore.

What if it happened again?

What if everything he had done, everything he had changed, was aningless?

What if, in the end, he still ended up dying at the hands of the male leads?

What if all this conflict kept pushing him further and further until one day he finally broke?

Ningyan’s thoughts spiraled uncontrollably.

Too many things were happening when all he had ever wanted was peace.

Just peace, far away from all of it.

"Ningyan." ishan’s voice suddenly cut through his thoughts.

Ningyan blinked slowly and looked up.

ishan was staring at him with clear worry in his eyes.

Ningyan imdiately reached up and placed his hands on ishan’s cheeks, squishing them slightly so his lips puckered into a small pout.

"I..." Ningyan started, but the words stuck in his throat.

He didn’t know what to say.

Part of him wanted to refuse.

But another part of him really, really didn’t want to.

ishan was looking at him as if Ningyan was his entire world.

And in the short ti since they had officially beco lovers, Ningyan had already felt more love and care from this divine beast prince than he had ever received from anyone he had dated in his previous life.

No.

None of them could even compare to Lan ishan.

Ningyan let out a soft, pained sigh, as if he were losing a battle inside himself.

Then he suddenly wrapped his arms tightly around ishan.

"I pinky promise... we’ll get married."

ishan’s eyes widened in surprise.

For a mont, he simply held Ningyan, stunned.

He had honestly expected Ningyan to refuse.

After all, Ningyan had looked so troubled just monts earlier.

But then a soft, delighted smile slowly appeared on his lips.

He closed his eyes, savoring the warmth of Ningyan’s embrace.

"Thank you," he whispered.

Ningyan smiled softly at the quiet gratitude. He gently stroked ishan’s hair.

"Thank you too."
