Ningyan stood still, his eyes wide, watching the haunting image before him.

The image of himself.

He could see his wings, fully spread, glowing with ominous purple energy. Unconscious Su Nianci, cradled in his arms as he struck down assassin after assassin, each one wielding demon tools, helpless before him.

He had been a force of nature. Formidable. Wrathful.

And now.... now, he was alone in this vast void, the crystal suspended before him. Its once serene blue was gone, replaced by a vivid, pulsating purple. It burned with a sickening intensity, and Ningyan couldn’t shake the rising sense of dread in his chest.

The crystal was alive. Hungry.

Out of nowhere, a dozen demon tools appeared, hovering in front of him floating and waiting.

Ningyan’s breath hitched.

"No. No!"

His hands shot out, grabbing two of the tools with trembling fingers. But before he could even process what was happening, the crystal pulled.

The demon tools dissolved into a dark mist of red and black. The mist spiraled into the crystal, rging with its purple glow.

Ningyan stumbled back, heart racing in panic.

He could feel it. The pulse of the crystal pulling at him, sucking the energy from the tools like it was a ravenous beast.

His own body trembled with the glow, the power coursing through his veins with terrifying speed. The black mist swirled around him, enveloping his body, but it wasn’t his own. The crystal was forcing it upon him.

No. Not like this.

Ningyan felt a cold dread settle in his bones. His hands released the two demon tools, his grip unable to hold them any longer. They flew toward the crystal, swallowed whole.

He gasped, his body pulsing once more with that vicious energy. His vision blurred as he felt himself swaying on the edge of control.

The crystal had to be stopped.

But what could he do?

The thought of Rong Yue ca unbidden, but it left him feeling just as helpless.

Should I just let him take it?

No. He couldn’t.

Not while the crystal had rged with his beast soul.

But...what if it was the only way to end this?

His breath hitched again. The sensation of the demon tools rging with the crystal was like a sick twist in his gut. He couldn’t be sure how much longer he could resist before the crystal consud him entirely.

Su Ningyan inhaled sharply and the void vanished. He was back in the inn chamber. Alone.

"...Tch." He pushed himself upright, dragging a hand through his hair, already ssy from sleep. "This crystal is starting to get on my nerves."

His brows furrowed. "I need to control it."

Then, his eyes lit up. "Oh."

He snapped his fingers, jumping to his feet and imdiately beginning to pace. "Lan Yunlai wants it. Rong Yue wants it... for cultivation."

He paused. Then turned.

"So why don’t I just use it?"

His expression shifted, thinking, calculating.

"It’s already fused to my beast soul anyway..." He muttered to himself, running his fingers through his hair again and again until the loose ponytail gave up completely, strands falling around his face.

But the more he thought about it, the more his expression twisted.

"...This is so annoying." He groaned loudly and dropped to the floor. Flat. Arms and legs spread out like a starfish.

He stared at the ceiling like it had personally offended him.

"At this rate, I’m just a burden to ishan." His voice was quieter now. Less dramatic. More honest.

He rubbed his forehead. "They’re not stupid... they’ll notice the missing demon tools."

Silence.

Then, he turned onto his side, curling slightly into himself.

"Why is this plot so against ?" he muttered. "One problem after another... is this even fair?"

His lips pressed together. He exhaled slowly.

...I want ishan.

The thought slipped in quietly.

He just wanted to bury himself in his arms and stay there. That alone felt... safe.

"...Where is he?"

"Right here."

Ningyan froze.

His head snapped up. And there stood Rong Yue leaning casually by the doorway, looking down at him with open curiosity. Like a large, dangerous cat observing sothing mildly entertaining.

Ningyan imdiately pushed himself up into a sitting position, glaring. "What are you doing here?"

"I ca to check on you."

Ningyan stared at him like he had just said sothing deeply offensive. "...You?"

Rong Yue’s lips curved slightly. Amused. Only then did Ningyan notice the split on his lower lip. A thin line of dried blood.

His eyes narrowed. "...What happened to your face?"

Honestly? Good.

Rong Yue didn’t respond imdiately. He only sighed. Then stepped forward.

Su Ningyan stiffened at once, his body going alert, that faint ominous purple glow flickering in his eyes.

Rong Yue ignored it.

He lowered himself in front of him instead. One knee raised, arm resting lazily over it, posture relaxed... but deliberate.

His unblinking gaze stayed locked on Ningyan. His tail swaying slowly behind him. "...Yan Wuhen punched ."

Ningyan’s lips curled instantly. "You deserved it."

No hesitation. No sympathy. Just blunt satisfaction.

Rong Yue watched him for a second longer. "I ca to apologize."

Silence.

"You ca to..." Ningyan burst into laughter.

He bent forward slightly, one hand pressing to his chest, the other dragging up to his forehead as the laughter spilled out freely.

It echoed in the room. Sharp and mocking.

Rong Yue didn’t interrupt. But there was a flicker of surprise in his eyes.

Ningyan suddenly stopped. Just like that.

He looked at him flatly. "Apology not accepted."

Then he leaned forward, placing a hand on Rong Yue’s shoulder.

The gesture almost looked friendly. Almost.

A small smile curved his lips. "We don’t need to talk, Rong Yue."

His voice softened but the aning didn’t. "It’s unnecessary. I’m not giving you the crystal. Even if it hurts , I’ll control it."

His smile sharpened slightly. "I’ll bend it to my will."

Then he straightened, stretching lightly like the conversation had already bored him.

Done. Dismissed.

He turned and walked toward the door without another glance.

"I’m going to find my husband."

And just like that, he left.

The room fell quiet.

Rong Yue remained where he was. Then an amused scoff escaped him as he echoed Ningyan’s words. "Apology not accepted."

His ears twitched. "Very well then, Ningyan. I’ll let you be."
