Su Ningyan stood there trying to breathe. Once. Twice. Three tis.

Then he turned away and started pacing.

"This is insane..." he muttered under his breath.

His fingers dragged through his hair as his mind raced. The crystal. That thing.... He glanced up at it.

It was floating there. Glowing.

He turned, looking straight at Jun Haoxuan who was watching him with an expression Ningyan absolutely did not have the ntal stability to decode right now.

Ningyan walked up to him, stopped right in front of him and took another deep breath. "So let get this straight... I’m married to you?"

Haoxuan sighed and looked away. "...Yes."

Ningyan slowly pressed his hands to his cheeks and stared into the void like his soul had just exited his body.

"Why is my luck this terrible?" He slapped his cheeks lightly like he was trying to wake himself up from a nightmare.

Haoxuan blinked. Actually blinked. He was caught off guard. "...Are you absolutely certain you didn’t steal it?"

Ningyan turned his head sharply. Still holding his face. His expression flattened. "You’re asking that again?"

A deep frown settled in. "I said I didn’t steal it."

Haoxuan studied him carefully this ti.

"Then how did it end up inside you?" he asked, frustration creeping into his voice, "I searched for it everywhere. I couldn’t even sense it."

"...Wait." Ningyan squinted at him. "If Lan Yunlai had gotten it instead... would you two have been married?"

Haoxuan’s face: "...."

Su Ningyan stared at him for a second then suddenly burst into laughter.

"He doesn’t know," he managed between breaths, clutching his stomach. "He only knows it makes him stronger and you two would have been—"

He broke off, laughing harder.

Tears gathered at the corners of his eyes as he wiped one away.

"I’m sorry—" he sniffed. "I really am.. but it wouldn’t have been that bad."

He tilted his head, grinning. "Lan Yunlai is quite handso. I saw him at the Dance of Dragons Festival. Though... you’d probably kill him first. Demon qi and all that."

Haoxuan’s expression darkened. "What exactly are you talking about?"

Ningyan coughed lightly, forcing himself to calm down. "Right. It’s a serious situation."

He straightened. "We’re married. And it can’t be undone because it fused with my soul."

Haoxuan exhaled sharply. "...It doesn’t matter whether you stole it or not."

Ningyan blinked. Guilt and annoyance twisted in his chest.

Why does he look like his life is ruined? Is it so horrible to be married to ?

"Lan Tianheng and Lan Tianlong invaded the academy without hesitation for this crystal." Haoxuan stepped toward the crystal, his voice dropping an octave. "You are carrying sothing every beast would wage war for, Ningyan. That is why you’re coming back with ."

Ningyan froze.

"You will stay under my protection," Haoxuan continued, not even looking at him now. "And when I ascend to Beast King.. you will rule beside ."

Ningyan’s jaw dropped. "...Wait."

He rushed forward, planting himself right in front of Haoxuan, arms spread wide to block him. "Wait, wait, wait!"

Haoxuan stopped and looked down at him. Annoyed.

Ningyan imdiately dropped his arms, clearing his throat awkwardly. "...Wow. You’re really serious about this."

Then he looked up, serious now. "I can’t go with you. I’m already married."

Jun Haoxuan’s eyes widened. "What?"

His golden reptilian gaze sharpened instantly. "To who?"

Su Ningyan crossed his arms. "Lan ishan."

"...Lan ishan." Haoxuan rubbed his temples slowly, exhaling through his nose. "What kind of ss is this?"

Ningyan frowned. "It is not my fault your crystal ended up inside , Jun Haoxuan. You can either find a way to—"

"He can co along."

Ningyan blinked. "...Eh?"

He stared at him. Hard. "Are you serious?"

Haoxuan didn’t hesitate. "My father has two wives and two husbands. So yes. I am serious."

He stepped closer to Ningyan looking more calm and certain "You need protection, Ningyan. And I am the only one who can regulate the crystal before it consus you... or sothing it shouldn’t."

Ningyan’s heart skipped. "...Oh."

And just like that, he looked away.

Haoxuan noticed imdiately. His eyes narrowed. "...Has sothing happened?"

Ningyan’s head snapped up. "No. Why would you—"

"You can’t hide it from ." Haoxuan’s voice dropped. "I can sense the demonic energy in here."

Ningyan froze. Then turned away sharply. "Demonic energy? That’s not possible." His voice ca out tighter.

Behind him, Haoxuan’s expression changed. The irritation faded, replaced by concern.

"I can help you regulate it," he said, more carefully now. "But you must stay away from demon tools. The crystal is drawn to high concentrations of negative energy. It devours it."

His gaze hardened. "That is why Lan Yunlai wants it so much."

Ningyan’s eyes widened as he looked back at Haoxuan. So he knows....

"...you’re not going to kill ?" he asked quietly.

Haoxuan blinked. He looked surprised. "Why would I?"

Ningyan swallowed. "...Because of the demonic energy?" The question ca out quieter than he intended.

"You killed Madam Qin. Her children." His fingers curled at his side. "You said it yourself. Anyone aiding or cultivating demon qi should be executed."

He gasped, waving his hands. "I’m not saying I am! But it’s still... demonic energy."

Silence fell between them.

Ningyan’s heartbeat picked up. Why was he speaking?!

Across from him, Jun Haoxuan didn’t move. He didn’t even look annoyed anymore.

"...You’re afraid I’ll kill you." It wasn’t a question.

Ningyan didn’t answer. He didn’t need to.

Haoxuan exhaled slowly, dragging a hand down his face. "For soone who claims he didn’t steal it..."

His gaze lifted again. "...you’re thinking very far ahead."

Ningyan frowned. "That’s not—"

"I killed them," Haoxuan interrupted calmly. "Because they chose that path."

His voice didn’t rise. "Each of them carried demon tools. They may not have practiced with them yet, but they intended to. And Madam Qin..."

He paused, then sighed. "You’re not the sa. It’s not your fault. The crystal is simply doing what it does. That difference matters."

Ningyan searched his face. "...So you’re not going to kill ?"

Haoxuan’s brows drew together. He looked offended. "You haven’t lost yourself. If that changes, then we’ll have a different conversation."

Ningyan stared at him. So that’s the line.

Haoxuan stepped closer, this ti slower. "You’re carrying sothing that binds you to . I can stabilize it. You’ll be protected and you’ll still have your freedom."

His lips trembled slightly. "...And your husband."

Ningyan watched him warily. "I don’t trust you."

Haoxuan nodded. "I don’t trust you either. But this isn’t a spirit mate bond, Ningyan. And I am not Yan Wuhen."

Ningyan held his gaze. This was... reasonable. Too reasonable.

Which made it more dangerous.

"...I need to think about it."

Haoxuan exhaled. "Take as much ti as you need."

Ningyan forced a smile. "...What happens to the clan manor?"

Haoxuan didn’t hesitate. "It’s yours."
