Ji Rui placed the laptop on his lap, typing away, and anwhile, answered a few calls, one of which was from Yang Sheng.
"Rui, do you know where Tongtong went? I’ve called her, but she doesn’t answer, and when I went up to check, her phone was still on the desk, yet she’s nowhere to be found."
Ji Rui glanced at Le Tong, who was lying motionless on the bed, and lowered his voice to say, "She fainted from a high fever and is now in the hospital getting an IV drip."
"What, Tongtong fainted? How is she now? Is she okay? Which hospital is she in, I’ll go see her."
On the other end of the line, along with Yang Sheng’s anxious voice, there was the sound of clattering; presumably, he was so anxious that he knocked over a chair.
"It’s just a cold, you don’t need to co, I’ll take her ho once she’s finished the IV."
To Ji Rui, staying with Le Tong here and taking her ho when she wakes up was only natural.
But to Yang Sheng, this was quite the peculiar news; he had known Ji Rui for so long and never seen him be so considerate to anyone other than Ji Baby.
"Rui, don’t tell you personally took Tongtong to the hospital?"
"Yes." Ji Rui had no intention of hiding it because he thought it wasn’t a big deal at all.
"You not only took her to the hospital personally but are also staying at the hospital now?" Yang Sheng sounded even more surprised, and he showed no intention of concealing it.
"Yes, too lazy to go back and forth, besides, I can work here just the sa."
Ji Rui’s laptop showed an analysis report that Le Tong had just sent him that morning, which he distinctly rembered had been requested to be submitted within three days, but she had completed it in just one afternoon.
"Then, are you planning to take her ho after she’s done with the IV?"
Yang Sheng seed uncertain about his guess and instead of asking it all at once, he separated them, perhaps because he believed these three questions represented different degrees of relationship.
The first question alone could only prove Ji Rui was a good CEO who cared about his subordinates.
The second question hinted at sothing a bit more, indicating that saying they were only superior and subordinate without any private connection was undoubtedly false.
And Yang Sheng didn’t dare ask the third question’s implications outright. Besides, Yang Sheng seed aware that even if he did ask, Ji Rui wouldn’t give him a clear answer.
"Yes, the doctor said if the fever subsides after the IV, she can go straight ho, but if it doesn’t, she’ll have to be hospitalized."
Ji Rui said as he moved his laptop to the sofa, got up, walked over to the bed, and touched her forehead, finding it wasn’t as hot anymore.
"The IV is halfway done, and her body temperature is starting to drop slowly, it seems she’ll be alright."
Yang Sheng remained silent for a while on the other line before speaking, "Rui, are you telling not to go to the hospital because you don’t want to interrupt you two?"
Ji Rui paused for a second, then naturally denied it, "Yang Sheng, what are you thinking? You’re so busy, why run around? It’s nothing serious anyway."
"I am busy, Mr. CEO, aren’t you busy?"
Yang Sheng’s tone was very calm, but the insinuation in his words left Ji Rui stunned again.
"Yang Sheng, what are you thinking?"
Ji Rui was slightly displeased, thinking he had been too kind to Yang Sheng, making him daringly accuse him out of nowhere.
"I didn’t think anything, I’m just curious when the CEO beca so good to his secretary for just a minor cold..." Yang Sheng’s elongated intonation carried significant implications.
Ji Rui stared at Le Tong’s sleeping face, her flushed cheeks, and under her long eyelashes, those deep dark circles appeared even more conspicuous.
"Yang Sheng, you’re overthinking! Le Tong has been with us all these days, and getting sick is because the two of us are over-demanding; she’s doing work for two, or even three people. I can’t recall any previous secretary being as diligent. I think aside from you, she’s the one who can help most now."
Regardless of Ji Rui’s personal feelings towards Le Tong, professionally, he always affird and appreciated her.
"Okay, I thought you were dissatisfied with her work performance all along, turns out I misunderstood! Where are you guys? I’ll go visit Tongtong and drop off her purse and phone." Yang Sheng seed to feel there was no need to argue further with Ji Rui; though he was an observer, it didn’t an he saw things clearer than those involved.
Ji Rui told Yang Sheng the hospital na and room number, and just as he hung up the phone, he saw Le Tong slowly opening her eyes on the bed.
"Awake?"
Ji Rui leaned closer and asked gently, looking at her face.
Le Tong’s eyes were a bit dazed, staring at him for a while before she recognized the person in front of her.
"CEO?"
Although she fainted for quite a while, she hadn’t forgotten a word Ji Rui said previously.
His actions and words had all shown that he disliked her and was constantly guarding against her!
Thus, seeing Ji Rui’s face so close, Le Tong thought she was dreaming.
"How are you feeling, a bit better?"
The man in her dream unexpectedly asked softly in a tone she hadn’t heard before, followed by a warm hand covering her forehead.
The slightly rough hand felt very real on her forehead, and the man’s enlarged handso face reminded her that this wasn’t a dream!
A hint of disdain flashed in Le Tong’s eyes, as she propped herself up and turned her face, trying to evade Ji Rui’s touch.
Ji Rui looked at the hand she had shrugged off, feeling not only a bit displeased but also a tiny bit of disappointnt? Or perhaps it was emotions he himself couldn’t clear out.
"Don’t move!" He pressed her shoulder and forced her back onto the bed.
Although he was not pleased, she was a patient, and a bit of mood was normal; thinking this, those odd feelings he had, slowly cald down.
Le Tong was forced to lie quietly in bed, looking around, the surroundings indicated it was a hospital, "CEO, why am I in a hospital?"
Her mory remained at Ji Rui’s office.
"You suddenly fainted right in front of , if I hadn’t sent you to the hospital, would you want to end up on the street?"
Ji Rui replied irritably, feeling sowhat annoyed at Le Tong’s stubbornness; clearly sick, yet not staying at ho to rest, why co to work?
He had utterly forgotten that before Le Tong fainted, she had earnestly applied for sick leave, which he, the Demon, denied.
