"But if you’re going to fill it, do it quickly. Nightfall is coming."
No sooner had he spoken than several white birds flew across the horizon, descending towards the dense forest.
"Alright, there’s not much ti," Bai Shi said. He imdiately tilted his head and said sothing to the Hunter team mbers behind him.
The Hunter team mbers hurried over and, along with Alka and the others, quickly began to cover the pit. The pit was rapidly filled, and the ground around it had noticeably sunk.
After they quickly finished, Bai Shi looked at the small, round depression, now about half a ter lower than the surrounding ground. Sothing seed off, but he couldn’t pinpoint what.
A team mber behind him was saying sothing, and he imdiately snapped his thoughts back to the present.
"Quick, quick, quick! Let’s hurry back, there’s not much ti left!" Bai Shi urged, then followed the crowd with his team, running hurriedly towards the small town.
It didn’t take long before they saw the first watchtower. The sky was still bright.
Seeing this watchtower, everyone’s pace imdiately slowed. Reaching this point ant they were within the town’s periter, no longer needing to fear the uncertain dangers of the night.
It wasn’t until they reached the town’s entrance that the sky rapidly darkened.
At this mont, Bai Shi suddenly rembered sothing, clenching his right fist and striking his left palm.
"So that’s what it was!"
"What do you an, ’so that’s what it was’?" Alka, beside him, looked at him, puzzled.
"When we were filling the hole just now, I was wondering about sothing. Now I rember! Where did all the dirt you dug out go?" Bai Shi asked, a knowing look in his eyes.
Alka was even more puzzled. He and the others had previously assud Bai Shi hadn’t asked about the dirt because he’d encountered such a thing many tis before. Had he really not noticed at all?
Alka briefly explained what had happened to them.
"You an you ca across a suddenly opened rift during the day? Well, that’s really unfortunate for you. Such situations aren’t unheard of, just very rare."
After a brief chat, they parted ways.
Alka and the others had just entered the small town and were about to head to the house they had rented when they saw a group of people walking towards them head-on.
These people, like Alka’s group, stood out conspicuously from the townsfolk. They had normal human appearances and skin tones, but their clothing styles were completely different from those of the locals.
Alka recognized quite a few individuals in this group. Of course, Alka had only seen them one-sidedly. In his dreams.
It was the rchant crew that had co to the island. Alka looked at their leader. He was an ordinary-looking middle-aged man, wearing rather close-fitting leather armor with a Sailor’s Long Saber at his waist, yet he carried an imposing air.
They also noticed Alka and the others. Their gazes skipped over Alka, the apparent leader of his group, and instead focused on the towering Pororo, Matilda with her human torso, serpentine lower body, and four arms, and the Puppet Girl perched on soone’s shoulders. These clearly non-human Races drew more of his attention.
Then he nodded to them politely.
Without much communication, they passed by each other.
Until they turned the street corner, out of sight of Alka’s group, one person standing behind the captain stepped forward a few paces. "Captain."
"Hmm, find an opportunity to get to know them. Rember to be friendly. Go take so gifts from the ship."
"Huh?" This clearly puzzled the man behind him. Although his own strength wasn’t greater than his captain’s, he wasn’t weak either. He could clearly sense that Alka’s group, overall, wasn’t very powerful. At least, none of them seed a match for himself or the captain. That’s why he was puzzled by the captain’s words.
"They’re from the Four Divine Seas, and they definitely haven’t been here long. Befriending them wouldn’t be a bad thing for us," the captain said. He then muttered to himself, "Damn, how did such a Combination even co together? It’s truly baffling."
The captain’s words stunned the first mate standing behind him. He hadn’t seen anything to suggest Alka’s group was from the Four Divine Seas. He then frowned slightly, unable to resist asking, "Then why don’t we..."
Upon hearing this, the captain, who was walking ahead, suddenly stopped. The crew mbers following them imdiately halted as well. The captain turned his head, stared at the first mate, then leaned slightly closer and whispered in his ear, "If you want to court death, don’t drag us down with you. I certainly won’t lead my crew to their doom."
Without waiting for a response, he turned and continued onward with the n behind him.
Hearing this, the first mate’s expression changed, and he quickly hurried after him. "Co on, Captain, I was just joking!"
Although he didn’t know what his captain had perceived, since the captain had spoken so firmly, he imdiately dismissed the notion. He was self-aware; in both judgnt and strength, he was no match for the captain. That, he supposed, was why the other man was captain.
