"They are constructed from highly concentrated Magic Power and should have sothing akin to an Energy Core. Only by breaking or interrupting the Energy transmission between them can they be destroyed," Julia, observing carefully nearby, concluded.
Simon nodded upon hearing this.
Two more Sentry Flying Devices flew over. These two seed to have a different function, with sothing crystal-like mounted at the front. They began to probe around the giant monster and seed to have scanned the location of its Energy Core.
The two Sentry Flying Devices imdiately launched an attack; this ti, they used bullets instead of beams. With a muffled sound, the bullets were fired. They instantly penetrated the monster’s body. Its form, composed of various fabric and plant remnants, was exceedingly fragile and offered virtually no defense.
Everyone clearly heard a cracking sound.
Like a collapsing structure, the monster quickly disintegrated into a heap.
Only then did everyone step forward.
Simon materialized an iron rod in his hand and dug around a bit, revealing a bizarre core inside, still faintly glowing.
Was this core object actually a shattered skull?
The skull, however, had long since turned jet-black and shiny, its internal crystalline texture vaguely visible through the surface.
Matilda bent down, picked up the skull with her bare hand without any disdain, and scrutinized it carefully.
"This should be the skull of a Touched One," she said. "Their death was unrelated to any brain injury; this damage was caused posthumously. Their strength in life must have been considerable, and it’s possible the Treasures or Spells they used were related to the brain and spirit."
She continued, "After dying in such a high-Magic Power environnt, the head absorbed Magic Power, altering its composition."
Then, she handed the skull directly to Alka. "It’s a decent biological material, if you don’t mind using it."
Alka took it, glanced at it without any disdain, and tossed it to Simon.
Such high-Energy objects were generally what Simon needed; after all, his constructs required Energy to operate. Relying solely on his Magic Power to drive them would be too taxing for him.
After this brief interlude, the group bypassed so buildings ahead and headed towards the interior of the Island along the central avenue.
The Island’s structure was sowhat peculiar. It was surrounded by a circle of towering cliff walls, and its only entry point was through the area with buildings in front of the port. Here, a gap resembling a large gate offered passage into the interior.
This magnificent gate had completely crumbled into ruins. Only two stone pillars, one short and one long, remained, covered with the marks of wind erosion.
Just as the group reached the entrance, a suit of broken stone Armor materialized from the surrounding rubble. The assembled Armor stood five to six ters tall. A massive hamr, ford from boulders, floated before it as if gripped by an invisible hand.
It seed to be another entity ford by high Magic Power.
"Be careful. Its Energy signature is quite strong, and the stones forming its body are inscribed with Spells and imbued with Magic Power," Simon reported, controlling a Sentry Flying Device that was scanning nearby.
However, the seemingly broken Magic Stone Armor showed no intention of attacking them, rely floating quietly nearby, much like a forr guardian of this gate.
"It’s not attacking?" Jason wondered aloud.
"Perhaps because we haven’t made any offensive moves?" Alka mused. "Not all Magic Power-infected creatures are aggressive, right?"
The group slowly moved a couple of steps to the side. Still, there was no attack. They gradually edged towards the gate’s position.
Only when everyone had passed through the gate did the Armor, which had been a collection of floating stones, collapse, returning to a pile of rubble below as if it had never assembled.
"So what was the point of it assembling like that?" Jason asked, puzzled. "If it didn’t want to attack, why appear at all? Was it just curious?"
Alka shrugged and shook her head. "Who knows? Perhaps its duty is to guard the gate, and it needs to observe anyone passing through."
Beyond the gate, the scene within the Island’s interior ca into view. There were vast expanses of ruins and the remnants of forr buildings. A towering central spire was particularly prominent. The debris floating around this spire, in particular, lent it an extraordinary air.
Besides this, nurous massive stones floated in mid-air around the periter of the ruins. These stones seed to form airborne islands, though they weren’t high above the ruins. The lowest floated only two to three ters up, while the highest were more than ten ters aloft.
Suddenly, mysterious voices spoke:
"New Trial Takers have arrived?"
"It’s rare to see a Divine lineage in such a shattered era."
"Well then, young ones, are you here to take the trial?"
