As soon as Simon arrived, his eyes were already fitted with sophisticated telescopic optics, aid directly towards the coast of the Sea of Moisture.
"Is this monster made purely of vines?" he wondered aloud. "It looks much more normal this ti."
At the edge of the Sea of Moisture, a gigantic, four-legged beast crawled. Its body was completely covered in vines and various other plants, making it hard to tell whether it was a true beast or a monster ford entirely of vegetation. Its head, however, was encased in three petal-like structures, covered in dense, protruding lines resembling plant roots. A slender tongue erged from a central maw, swaying back and forth and flicking out dark green, toxic fluid. Countless tendril-like vines also writhed around its body.
Among all the monsters they had encountered so far, this one could be considered relatively aesthetically pleasing. This was because it appeared at least sowhat coherent; the fusion of undead and plant elents didn’t feel too discordant.
"Judging by its structure, its head should be capable of ranged attacks," Jason observed. "Stay alert."
Indeed, if it couldn’t launch a ranged attack, it wouldn’t be provoking them from one or two kiloters off the coast.
Just as Jason finished speaking, the petals forming the enemy’s head completely unfurled. Its root-like tongue, which had been swaying, straightened rigidly, aid directly at their ship. A green liquid coalesced and shot straight towards them.
Layer upon layer of mirrors instantaneously materialized, blocking the liquid’s path. Their surfaces seed to have special coatings, and the Spells upon them flickered faintly. The ranged attack of dark green liquid shattered only the first mirror; the subsequent ones completely blocked it.
"It’s actually a pure Energy Attack?" Alka hadn’t anticipated this. He had been prepared to absorb the enemy’s attack and reflect it. However, his current real-world abilities only allowed him to reflect physical attacks. He had assud the venom was a physical substance produced from the creature’s mouth or body. Instead, it was an energy-based toxin manifested from gathered Magic Power. Therefore, the mirrors couldn’t absorb or reflect it, only passively endure the impact. Fortunately, these defensive mirrors had been reinforced and imbued with various protective enchantnts, proving very effective for now.
The monster kept spraying relentlessly, but its venom was completely blocked by the mirrors that appeared out of nowhere. This continued until the Sound of Dawn finally moved out of its visual range, after which the creature could only roar in the direction the ship had departed.
Witnessing this, Simon turned his head, exasperated. "That’s all there is to the monster’s ranged attack? If that’s all it has, why bother attacking so pointlessly?"
"You should be used to it by now," Juanlu retorted from the side.
Simon mused, "And I wonder what it would taste like."
They had been sailing along this edge for thirteen days and nights. According to their calculations, they should soon be leaving the confines of the Life and Death Boundary and heading into other regions. They had deliberately chosen the path to the right, which would ensure their passage to the Realm of Spirits. However, at least here in the Life and Death Boundary, these monsters were indeed highly aggressive. The slightly larger, more powerful-looking ones were also extrely difficult to kill.
Previously, they had even encountered a colossal flower, a good ten ters tall, that constantly bombarded them with various ranged attacks. Even the Destruction of Azula had only managed to leave a huge gash on it, and by the ti they departed, the wound was already repairing itself. However, that was just a standard maximum-power attack, so the damage dealt wasn’t extensive enough to be fatal. Yet the power displayed by that massive flower monster was certainly Fourth Stage or higher. Furthermore, a creature of such gigantic proportions couldn’t be judged by normal power scaling.
Just then, apparently sensing sothing, Pororo abruptly leaped off the deck. Seeing this, the few individuals chatting on deck instantly grew alert, focusing their Magic Power to scan the waters below. Pororo’s action clearly indicated it had sensed danger in the Ocean. When alert, Pororo’s danger sense for the Ocean had a far greater range than the Sound of Dawn’s standard detection capabilities.
Hundreds of ters away, the ocean surface erupted with splashes. A few vines could be seen stretching out before plunging back into the seawater. A swirling vortex ford on the distant sea surface, and the depths of the Ocean below were in turmoil.
Seeing this, Matilda and Julia, both being of an aquatic Race, prepared to dive into the sea. Just as they were about to, a flash of grey-black lightning spread through the area before them. The entire sea surface gradually cald. This stopped the two in their tracks. Clearly, the outco was decided. From the looks of it, Pororo had won.
Sure enough, Pororo leaped out of the water, carrying a huge, bizarre creature, and landed on the deck.
"Is this also a monster from the Sea of Moisture?" Simon squatted down beside it to examine it.
It was a monster remarkably similar to a shark. As Simon brushed aside the seaweed and various vines wrapped around it, a shark skeleton was indeed revealed underneath. This was a peculiar undead creature, ford from a shark skeleton intertwined with plant vines.
