The two of them just stared at each other, and lissa suddenly lost her words.
In the mont their eyes t, she sighed softly, lanting her sorrowful life, closed her eyes, and chose to give up.
Then there was a silence that made her heart ache.
"Aren’t you going to say anything?" Finn Morgan spoke coolly, "Opportunities like today aren’t common, you know. Once missed, they’re gone."
Startled, lissa quickly opened her eyes, their gazes eting once more. "Have you been here the entire ti I’ve been unconscious?" She waited expectantly for an answer, feeling a bit anxious.
"Yes." Finn answered honestly, "Not just , Hailey has been here too."
lissa’s breath caught, she bit her lip, wishing she could kill him with her gaze, "Don’t emphasize it often, flaunting love ends fast, it’s sickening."
"If I don’t remind you often, how can you wake up a little?" Finn asked, "You’ve barely escaped death, are you going to go on another suicide attempt?"
lissa didn’t want to argue with him, she asked directly, "Can you stay with for one more day? While I’m awake." She wanted to experience this kind of treatnt.
"Then I’ll have to ask Hailey." Finn didn’t outright refuse, "If she disagrees, then it’s not happening."
But what he said pierced more than a refusal, lissa retorted, "Siase twins?"
"Pretty much." Finn uncharacteristically joked.
"I’m thirsty, I want so water." Her lips were dry and cracked, speaking took effort, but she still rolled her eyes at him.
"Okay."
Finn turned around to get her a glass of water, playing the role of a caregiver perfectly.
At the end of the corridor outside the ward, at the railing of the terrace, Jocelyn Morgan and Hailey Hale leaned against the rail, gazing at the city skyline in the distance.
The air was filled with a faint scent of mugwort and disinfectant.
"What do you think lissa is talking to my brother about?" Jocelyn had nurous guesses as she turned and asked with a smile.
Hailey squinted at a white cloud on the distant horizon and said candidly, "I haven’t given it a thought at all, and I don’t care what they’re talking about."
"Really? Not the least bit interested? How is that possible? Do you not care at all?"
Hailey turned her gaze, smiling as she asked, "I know your brother doesn’t love her, and I’ve never seen her as a love rival, so why should I care?"
"..."
"If she were your brother’s ex-girlfriend, then I might have a bit of a hang-up, because after all, what you can’t get is always the best."
Jocelyn t her gaze, the two of them silently communicating, seeing a seriousness in Hailey’s eyes, void of any jesting.
"The wisdom of a fifty-year-old at the age of twenty." Then she gave a thumbs up, "Hailey Hale, I admire you!"
"Haha, but sotis I do envy lissa a bit." Hailey laughed as she looked away, "She knew Finn before I did, participated in his student days, witnessed many of his growth monts."
"She probably envies you more, right? Knowing soone earlier is no match for knowing them at the right ti."
The two sisters-in-law chatted like this... cheerfully and in harmony.
Soon, Ian Shelby arrived by helicopter.
He walked into the ward carrying a case, "Awake?"
lissa looked at him in confusion, "..." Just when she had finally gotten so alone ti with Finn, a third wheel barges in?
"Let introduce you, this is Dr. Ian Shelby." Finn said to lissa, "He’s the one who snatched you back from the Grim Reaper, initially, if you hadn’t woken up, I was planning to invite him to co and check on you."
"Just in ti." The graceful Ian Shelby set down his unique dical kit, "I’ll give you a full-body check-up first, to avoid any after effects, since you injured your head."
"Finn." lissa didn’t care about the setting, she pressed on, "Are you agreeing to my request?"
"Agreeing to what?" He was forgetful.
"Agreeing to stay with for a day while I’m awake." Her tone was sowhat stubborn, as if saying, if you don’t agree, I won’t undergo the check-up.
But Finn spoke softly, "I’ll go out and ask for permission now, you should cooperate with Dr. Shelby." After speaking, he turned to Ian Shelby, "Thank you for your hard work, Dr. Shelby."
"It’s my duty."
"Finn! Cough cough..." lissa, weak to the core, watched his departing back, and just by raising her voice a little, it seed like she might fall apart coughing.
