"So I try to be forgiving, and let Finn Morgan accompany her as much as possible. After all, it’s not a cri to like soone." Hailey Hale said with understanding, "There’s only one month left; anyone would feel regret."
"Good child."
Paige gently patted the back of her daughter’s head, a gratifying smile on her face.
After chatting with her mother for a while, she saw the maid coming out with a cup of warm milk, ready to take it upstairs.
"Sister May, let take it up."
Hailey Hale got up and walked towards her, turning to her mother, saying, "I’m going up to see Dad."
"Alright, go ahead."
Watching her daughter grow up, fall in love, and develop the correct values, Paige felt gratified.
Hailey Hale carried the milk upstairs, heading straight to the study.
Just as she was about to push open the slightly ajar door, she heard the sound of a phone call coming from inside—
"Kidnapping is extrely risky. I still hope nobody gets hurt, even though I’m not involved."
Kidnapping?!
Hailey Hale’s heart tightened, and she perked up her ears, but her father’s voice grew softer, and she couldn’t catch a complete sentence.
She only knew he was on the phone.
And the conversation was still circling around kidnapping, since those words were easy to distinguish, and they ca up at least three tis afterward.
Just as Hailey Hale was filled with perplexity, the slightly open study door swung open, and father and daughter bumped into each other’s gazes. Dennis Hale was visibly startled.
"Dad." Hailey didn’t pretend not to have heard, instead she asked directly, "Who were you just talking to? What kidnapping?"
"Oh." Dennis Hale’s lips curled slightly, his tone relaxed, "There was a serious kidnapping case that happened recently. As the mayor, I must ensure the hostage’s safety first and have them quickly gather the money."
After speaking, Dennis Hale’s gaze fell on the milk cup in his daughter’s hands, and he imdiately changed the subject, "Did you bring milk? Has Sister May started slacking off since you got back?"
"Of course not." Hailey replied with a smile, "I wanted to co up and persuade you to rest early."
Saying this, she handed the milk to him.
"Thank you, little Hailey." Dennis Hale took it and, while drinking, put his arm around her shoulders, leading her towards the second-floor living room, "How are you and Finn Morgan lately? Is his heart leaning towards lissa rce?"
"No, his feelings for lissa are the sa as mine, mainly sympathy, I guess."
"Hmm." Dennis Hale said, "Finn Morgan is a good kid; I have high hopes for him."
Hailey felt very happy, "Thank you, Dad, for your approval!"
Hailey Hale returned to her bedroom, gazing at the large poster hanging above her headboard. Finn Morgan’s warm smile made her lips involuntarily curve up.
It felt as if he was gazing back at her from afar.
At night, Finn Morgan was still dealing with so urgent matters at the Kingston Group, having been delayed by work for a few days.
He had just finished and was about to head downstairs when his phone rang.
Seeing the caller ID, he answered, and lissa’s mother’s voice ca through, "Finn, have you finished work? Are you busy?"
"I just finished." Finn asked, "How’s lissa? Is she okay?"
The other side was silent for a few seconds, and Finn knew that the situation might not be good, and this phone call must not be simple.
"Finn..." Sure enough, lissa’s mom said in a low mood, "Not long after you left, lissa started coughing up blood. She beca suspicious and went to the hospital for a check-up..."
Finn was slightly stunned.
lissa’s mom continued, "She knows about her illness now, and her whole deanor has changed. I’m really worried she won’t last a month."
"Finn, you’re her only cure. She even said she dread about you just now..."
"Finn, if you have ti, could you co and see her again?" lissa’s mom cried, "You’re her faith, the person she’s always been thinking about."
