“It’s not like I’m going to get away with ‘I love Amicia so much I’d die for her’, right?” Sam chuckled nervously, already looking a lot less confident than re monts earlier.
“No way.” The devil shook her head and crossed her arms. “Then I’m just going to stare point blank at you the entire ti you two are being intimate.” I chose not to convey this ssage to the group.
“Hmmm.” Sam, funnily enough, unknowingly mimicked the devil by crossing her arms as well. “My darkest secret… it’s… well… I’m not proud of it…not at all.” She rubbed the back of her head. “When I was about six years old I actually used to be sowhat of a bully.” Sam waited a couple of seconds to continue. “There was another girl in class who loved to draw, but little Sam couldn’t have anyone not playing with her. So one day when she refused , because I wasn’t the most fun kid to be around, I took her crayons when she wasn’t paying attention and smashed them all on top of her latest drawing. I… When I ca back from playing with so other kids, the girl was so utterly destroyed by her broken crayons and ruined drawing, just completely broken down into tears… sothing just snapped in my head. I sotis still hear her crying in the dark caverns of my mind.”
“Did you… ever tell soone? Did you get punished?” My sister asked cautiously.
Sam shook her head. “That’s maybe the worst thing about this all. I always think that it would have been better if the teachers punished , because then I’d actually have gotten what was due, but sohow they didn’t look at for this entire ordeal. And I sure as hell didn’t dare to tell my parents about this, even though I’m sure they knew that sothing was wrong just from the look on my face when they picked up from school.”
“That’s pretty juicy, not going to lie.” The devil had a shit eating grin stretching as wide as an ocean.
“What happened afterwards? What happened to the girl?” I asked in a soft compassionate voice. “I felt so bad about myself that I have not bullied anyone since, thankfully. So at least one thing good ca out of this ordeal because the gods know that little fucking needed it.”
“The gods don’t have anything to do with that.” You know who replied.
“As for the girl, I did also try to actually befriend her afterwards for the rest of the year, but considering my bad behavior beforehand, that never really worked out. She also didn’t continue at our school after that year… I always wondered what happened to her in the end. But then again, I also don’t really think I deserve to know considering what I did to her. Even if it was ‘just crayons and a drawing’.” She used air quotes for the last part of that sentence.
“Kids can be incredibly ruthless… But I’m glad that you learned from your mistakes.” My sister judged.
“We definitely won’t look at you in a different light for that, Sam. It’s clear that you’ve bettered your life a lot since then.” Hilda added.
“That’s a little disappointing, but fair enough it was also not the deal we had made that it had to inflict permanent reputational damage.” My unwanted headmate comnted. “She was telling the truth and what kind of devil would I be if I didn’t keep to my word?”
“You don’t have to adhere to our cultural prejudices of devils though...”
“No, I don’t, but it’s close enough to the transactional nature of our species. If you don’t want to keep my promise, I can still stare at you while you cuddle up your beloved girlfriend.”
“....”
“I thought so too.” She smirked.
“What did she say, Amicia?” Sam looked at sowhat concerned. My facial expression mustn’t have been very reassuring.
“She said that she will keep her part of the bargain, yes.” I confird.
“Also.” The devil raised her finger and smiled. “I think I have finally decided upon a na.”
I squinted at her. “Being?”
“I think I am going to go for Diana. I quite like the ring of that na.”
“Diana, huh?”
“Is that the na she has decided on?” My sister asked in turn.
“Apparently so, yes.” I nodded.
“I ain’t calling her that, no way I’ll call a devil like her ‘Diana’.”
I lifted my hands slightly and shrugged. “It is what it is I suppose. Of all the nas she could have picked I think Diana is fine. Although maybe a little bit too… divine sounding…” I looked at Diana who just smirked in turn.
“Tell your sister to get used to it because I’m not going to change it.”
“And… I an… She’s not going to change it because you don’t like it.” I replied to my sister.
“Just give her what she wants, love.” Nikki put her hand on my sister’s shoulder. “If this makes her happy and causes Amicia less grief because of it, I don’t see a reason why we shouldn’t be agreeing towards it.”
My sister sighed deeply and groaned. "Mhmmmm. Alright then… I don’t like it but I’ll suck it up.”
As my family continued to discuss Diana’s na a bit more, a bright light filled the room once more, resulting in both Gamma and Veanya standing in the room near the entrance to the apartnt. In a blink I could tell that Gamma looked incredibly tired, she must have really been dragged out of bed by Veanya who was standing next to our purple tornado like a stern mother who just had to drag her unruly child to school, although she did look like she at least had a bit of compassion for my fellow catgirl.
“I’m sorry it took so long.” Veanya claid the room with her voice.
“I have to apologize too.” Gamma walked up to where we were standing. “I’m a bit out of it…” She then looked at and imdiately perked up. “But I’ll do my best to help you.”
My sister, who normally doesn’t mix with Gamma too terribly well, walked up to her and brushed through Gamma’s hair. “Thank you for coming. I’ll get you sothing to eat, you always love having our food, right?”
Gamma’s ears shot up straight like a soldier going into attention. “I like the sound of that!”
“I have to admit that I do not mind the purple one.” Diana comnted rather silently but I still clearly heard it. It made chuckle.
“I’m pretty sure you just like cats and maybe catgirls as a logical extension.”
“I wouldn’t go that far.” Diana replied, crossing her arms. “I just mind them… less…”
“Hmm, if you say so.”
While I was holding this little conversation, Gamma was looking at intently. “So you are actually conversing with her, even if she can not be seen by us. Intriguing.”
“What did Veanya tell you?” I asked in return.
“Just a short summary. Devil woman is stuck in your head and she is talking to you. Probably happened when you got knocked out back in the other world.” While my sister went to work on Gamma’s food, the tornado herself approached to inspect from up close. She then reached into her pocket dinsion and took out an apparatus that looked like one of the machinations she had used on the previous tests she perford on .
“That’s pretty much it, yeah.” I nodded. “She’s actually standing right next to you.”
Gamma looked to the left.
“No, your other side.”
Gamma then looked to her right. “...Why am I even looking, I can’t see her.”
Diana smirked and used her index finger to boop Gamma on the nose. I couldn’t help but giggle a little.
“Did she do sothing?”
“She booped you.” I had to tell the truth.
“Huh… That’s not very… diabolical, is it?” Gamma started scanning with her device as she continued asking so more questions. “Have you noticed anything else concerning her behavior?”
“Well, she has just picked a na, calling herself Diana. She also agreed to not harass when Sam and I are being cuddly.”
“Hmmm.”
“What are you thinking?” My sister asked from behind the kitchen counter.
“Any theories already, Gamma?” Veanya asked as well.
“Well, just a little one just purely based on those little tidbits of information you have given . To , this doesn’t sound very diabolical. And from what I heard in Veanya’s summary, you also got total control over yourself, right?”
“Yeah, she says she isn’t powerful enough to attempt taking over.” I nodded.
“I just wonder if, by being stuck inside of you, without her knowing, she is being influenced by your being. I wouldn’t imagine a diabolical entity that literally skewered your girlfriend to get a reaction out of you to act like that if it wasn’t the case.”
“That’s pertinently untrue!” Diana loudly disagreed. “That can not be the case at all.” For the first ti since we t I saw doubt appear on her face after which she laid her hand on her face. “No…” And then, without any warning, she just disappeared.
“Oh… she’s gone. She really didn’t like hearing that.”
“Okay… That puts a little bit at ease. Still not a great situation but it’s not hopeless by far…”
