"—’Mmnh~... aaahn~...’—" Middle.

"—’HAANN~!!! AHN~!!!’—" Front. Not his. Hers. Her own doing. Her own hands. Her own forty-eight-hour inventory reaching its imdiate, present, urgent output while she waited.

He drove.

PAAH PAAH PAAH.

"—’AAAHN~!!! HAANN~!!! AHN~!!!’—" Current.

"—’HAANN~!!! AAAHN~!!!’—" Position two, her own.

"—’Mmnh~...’—" Positions three through eleven, ongoing.

’[Evil Points: 147]’

He noted the incrent with the flat, administrative, completely un-theatrical awareness of soone who had filed a query and was noting the returns.

PAAAH!

"—’AAAHNNNN~~~~~!!!’—"

Breakthrough: Core Formation Mid. The light went up.

Next.

’’’

The fourth woman in the second line begged.

Not in the way won begged in ceremony. Not the perford, theatrical begging of soone who had decided the presentation was part of the request. The flat, present, genuinely-at-the-end-of-her-architecture begging of a woman who had been at threshold for fifty-one hours and had been at position four in the line for the last forty minutes and had been listening to the first three at point-blank range and was currently running all her cultivator architecture at full capacity and was still not managing it.

"—’Senior’—’HAANN~!!!’—’please’—’AHN~!!!’—’please I"ve been’—" She did not finish the sentence. She did not need to finish the sentence. The specific, breathless, present quality of the unfinished sentence communicated the full content — ’I have been at this threshold for fifty-one hours and I watched my sisters advance twice while I waited and I am now in position four and I am asking.’

He looked at her.

He looked at position three.

He looked at position four.

He made the executive decision with the flat, unhurried efficiency of a man who had assessed a situation and determined the optimal response.

He moved to her directly.

Position three looked at position four with the specific, flat, present, completely unembarrassed expression of a woman watching soone else get the position she had been in line for.

Then position three looked at the arrangents available at the current architecture.

She found one.

"—’Mmngh~...’—" Position three, not waiting, not idle, the flat, self-directed efficiency of a woman who had assessed available options and selected one.

He was with position four.

She made the sound the mont he arrived — not at entry, at contact, the specific, imdiate, first-contact sound of a woman whose body had been running at full threshold for fifty-one hours and had just received information that contact was happening.

"—’AAAHNN~~~~!!!’—" Long. High. The specific, already-mid-event quality of a sound that arrived at full volu without building.

PAAH.

"—’KYAAANGHHH~!!!’—"

He had barely moved.

She had arrived at the event before he drove — the specific, accumulated, fifty-one-hour-threshold arrival of a body that had been at the edge so long that the edge had beco the surface and she was already there.

Breakthrough: Core Formation Mid.

She collapsed in his arms with the specific, complete, total collapse of a woman whose body had released fifty-one hours of accumulated inventory in approximately ninety seconds.

He held her upright for three seconds — the flat, clinical, non-sentintal hold of soone ensuring the body had its vertical before the next stage — then laid her in the grass.

He looked at position three.

Position three looked at him.

She was already in her position.

She had been in her position since before position four got her turn.

He noted: thorough preparation.

’’’

The seventh woman in the second line asked for sothing different.

She said it while she was still in position seven, which was the flat, forward, practical efficiency of a woman who was not going to waste the transition ti between position seven and active.

"I want," she said, and then she said the specific thing she wanted.

She said it with the flat, direct, completely unembarrassed delivery of a Core Formation cultivator who had been thinking about this specific request for approximately forty-eight hours and had decided it was a thing she was going to ask for.

He looked at her.

He noted: forty-eight hours was a long ti to think about a specific request.

She noted his looking at her.

"I watched the fifth woman," she said. "When it happened. She looked—" She did not finish this sentence either. She did not need to. The specific quality of what she was describing was apparent from the context.

He noted this.

He noted the specific, flat, honest logic of a woman who had watched sothing happen to soone else and had decided she wanted the specific, involuntary, comprehensive physiological event for herself.

He looked at her.

"That is not sothing requested," he said. "That is sothing that happens."

She looked at him.

"Then make it happen," she said.

He noted: directness.

He filed this for her turn.

When her turn arrived, he drove with the specific, deep, full-output pace that produced the event — the particular combination of depth and frequency that the Herb Integration passive and the dual cultivation transfer running simultaneously at point-blank range and the specific, flooding spiritual energy output that overwheld the body’s managent architecture and routed overflow through the available chanism.

He drove.

PAAH PAAH PAAH PAAH PAAAH!

"—’AAAHN~!!! HAANN~!!! AHN~!!! AAAHN~!!! AAAHNNNN~~~~~!!!’—"

She made the sound that ant it was happening before it was fully happening.

"—’SENIOR’—’HAANN~!!!’—’it’s’—’AAAHN~!!!’—’sothing is’—’AHN~!!!’—’I can"t’—’HAANN~!!!’—’I can"t hold’—’AAAHNN~!!!’—’I can"t—PSSSHHHH—AAAHNNNN~~~~~!!!’—"

The warm stream of it arcing wide — the full, comprehensive, high-pressure, everything-at-once release of a body that had been at threshold for fifty-two hours and had just been driven past every available managent system simultaneously.

She lay on her back.

Both hands flat.

Eyes at the sky.

The specific, present, cataloguing expression of a woman who had just had the specific thing she had asked for and was filing the experience.

"Well," she said.

The flat, present, slightly-breathless delivery of a woman making an assessnt.

He waited.

"I understand why she looked like that," she said.

She looked at him.

"Breakthrough," he noted.

Core Formation Mid. The light went up.

She continued looking at the sky while it went up.

’’’

Beyond the clearing.

The rest of the compound had not dispersed.

He had known they would not.

The remaining hundred-and-so won — the ones who had chosen dignity, the older ones, the ones who had hesitated and whose hesitation had beco their position — had not gone ho, had not returned to their cooking fires or their patrol routes or their cultivation circles.

They had relocated.

The specific, gradual, individually-arrived-at, collective relocation of two hundred won who had decided that dignity and observation were not mutually exclusive and had found windows.

The compound’s cedar structures had windows.

Cedar fras, wooden shutters, the specific, practical, compound-architecture windows of buildings that had been designed for visibility and cross-ventilation in a territory with specific weather patterns.

Every window that faced the clearing had a woman at it.

Not crowded — the specific, individual, each-at-their-own-window distribution of won who had located their personal observation post and were maintaining it with the flat, present, private quality of won who were doing this individually and were not coordinating it and were not acknowledging that they were all doing the sa thing from adjacent windows.

They were watching.

They were — the specific, involuntary, unavoidable, honest physiological response of won who had been watching for forty-eight hours in the full broadcast range of fourteen compressed spiritual energy variants and a Nascent Soul Mid Stage ambient field — not only watching.

Their robes were shut.

Their hands were not still.
