The silence after the last Revenant fell was heavy. Lucifer sat against a piece of broken wall, head resting back, eyes closed. He wasn't sleeping. He was just still, a rare mont of quiet in the storm.

Ken sat nearby, sharpening a claw against a piece of rubble. Angel paced. Mob stood like a statue, watching the sky. Remu kept her distance, arms folded, pretending not to watch Lucifer. Dera was a silent shadow near Ken. Heron was farther out, speaking in low tones with the elven commander.

Everything was calm.

Then Lucifer's breath hitched. It was a small sound, but in the quiet, it was as loud as a gunshot.

His eyes snapped open.

Ken looked over imdiately. "You good?"

Lucifer didn't answer. He was staring straight ahead, but his focus was inward. His jaw was tight, a muscle feathering along his cheek.

"Lucifer?" Angel stopped pacing.

He didn't look at her. He slowly lifted his right hand, turning it over, staring at his palm like he'd never seen it before. His shadows, which usually lay dormant or coiled close, began to stir on their own. They slithered up his arm, not at his command, but like sothing waking up inside him was pulling them out.

"Okay," Ken said, putting down the piece of rubble. "That's new."

Lucifer's head tilted slightly, as if he were listening to a voice only he could hear. A faint, involuntary tremor ran through his hand before he clenched it into a fist, forcing it still.

"Sothing's wrong," Remu said, her voice tight. She took a hesitant step forward.

Mob moved first, placing himself slightly between Lucifer and the rest of the open space. "His energy is… churning."

Lucifer finally blinked, but his eyes were wrong. The crimson glow was there, but it was unstable, flickering between deep red and a darker, almost violet-black hue. It was like two different fires fighting behind his eyes.

He tried to push himself up from the wall. His arm shook, just for a second, before he locked his elbow and stood. It was a careful, deliberate movent, like his body was a machine he wasn't fully in control of.

"Talk to us," Dera said, her voice calm but edged.

"I'm… upgrading," Lucifer said, the words coming out strained. He sounded like he was holding sothing heavy inside.

"Upgrading?" Ken echoed, standing up. "Now? In the middle of this?"

"You think I picked the timing?" Lucifer shot back, but there was no real heat in it. He was concentrating. A fine sheen of sweat appeared on his brow.

Heron arrived at a run, his expression grave. He took one look at Lucifer and his hand went to his sword. "Master. What is happening?"

"Change," Lucifer gritted out. His shadows writhed more violently now, lashing out around his feet before snapping back to him. "The bloodline… it's reacting. The Crimson Night is… it's not just waking up. It's rging with sothing else."

"rging with what?" Angel demanded.

"The demon blood," Lucifer said, his voice dropping to a pained whisper.

As if to prove his point, his skin flushed with a sudden, feverish heat that they could all feel radiating from him. A second later, it was gone, replaced by a chill that made the air around him frost. His veins stood out dark against his skin for a mont, then faded.

Remu's eyes were wide. "You're burning from the inside out."

"Sothing like that," he grunted, bracing a hand against the wall again. His knuckles were white.

Daniel materialized from a swirl of shadow and ember, his usual mischief gone. He looked Lucifer up and down, his gaze sharp and assessing. "Ah. It's happening."

"You know what this is?" Heron's question was a blade.

"I've seen a bloodline evolution before," Daniel said, his voice uncharacteristically flat. "Never in a Progenitor. Never with two conflicting cores. He's not just getting stronger. He's becoming sothing new. And right now, his system is rewriting itself. He's vulnerable."

The word hung in the air. Vulnerable. Lucifer was never vulnerable.

"How vulnerable?" Ken asked, his body already tensing for a fight.

"If sothing hits him hard enough right now, he might not co back from it," Daniel said bluntly. "The healing's offline. Everything's being rerouted to… whatever this is."

Lucifer let out a sharp breath, his head bowing. A low, pained sound escaped him before he cut it off. When he looked up, his eyes were fully mismatched—one blazing crimson, one a void-like black with a pinprick of violet light at the center. "They're coming."

"Who's coming?" Angel snapped, flas flickering to life around her hands.

"Not who," Lucifer forced out, his gaze darting to the northern horizon. "What. Relics. Things tied to the Progenitor line. They feel the change. They're… answering."

As he spoke, the ground beneath their feet gave a single, deep thrum, like the strike of a massive drum far below. The air pressure dropped, making their ears pop.

"Fantastic," Ken muttered, shifting his stance. "So we've got magical junk flying at us while you're having a… what, a magical puberty?"

Lucifer almost smiled, but it twisted into a grimace as another wave of whatever was happening inside him hit. He doubled over, catching himself on his knees. His shadows erupted around him chaotically, forming jagged, uncontrolled spikes before dissolving into smoke.

Mob was at his side in an instant, a steadying hand on his shoulder. "We move you. Now."

"No," Lucifer snarled, the word full of more pain than anger. "If those relics land here, their energy could rip apart anyone nearby who isn't . We stay. We hold this ground."

Heron looked at Daniel. "Can you stop it?"

Daniel shook his head. "No one can. He has to ride it out. We just make sure nothing interrupts."

Another pulse from the earth, stronger this ti. A low, resonant hum began to fill the air, coming from everywhere and nowhere.

"Circle up," Ken barked, already moving. He positioned himself in front of Lucifer, facing outward. "Angel, left. Mob, right. Dera, watch our backs."

Angel and Mob moved without question, forming a tight periter. Dera lted into the deeper shadows behind them, becoming another layer of defense.

Heron lifted his sword. "Elven line! Defensive formation on !" The allied forces, who had been watching with growing alarm, snapped into action, creating a wider ring around the core group.

Remu stood frozen for a second, looking from the struggling Lucifer to the forming defensive lines. Conflict warred on her face.

"Remu," Lucifer's voice was ragged, but it held a thread of command. He didn't look at her. "I need a barrier. Not to keep things out. To keep this in." He gestured vaguely at his own chest.

She understood. If his power erupted uncontrollably, it would scorch his own protectors. She nodded, a sharp, jerky motion, and stepped forward, hands weaving in the air. Complex violet sigils spun into existence, layering into a shimring, translucent do that enclosed Lucifer, Ken, Angel, and Mob. It humd with containnt magic.

Daniel stood just outside the do, his hellfire now a calm, dark corona around him. "I'll handle the big surprises."

Inside the do, Lucifer sank to his knees, his breathing becoming harsh and ragged. His form seed to waver at the edges. One mont he was solid, the next he seed half-made of swirling shadow and ember. The conflicting auras radiating from him made the air inside the barrier thick and hard to breathe.

"Just hang on, Luce," Ken said, his back to him, eyes scanning the trembling horizon. "We've got this."

Lucifer didn't answer. He was locked in an internal war. His claws extended, retracted. His fangs lengthened, then shrank. It was a visible, brutal struggle for coherence.

The hum in the air sharpened into a whine. Two hundred yards away, the fabric of reality peeled back like burning paper. From the tear, a deep, bloody red light pulsed, and a heavy, rhythmic thump-thump echoed—a heartbeat that wasn't organic. The Heart of the Blood Moon was forcing its way into the world.

At the sa ti, from a fissure that split open in the ground, a cold, possessive hunger washed over them. It was a thirst that had nothing to do with blood. The Chalice of Yurek was approaching.

But it wasn't alone.

From the dark space behind the erging relics, a deeper shadow moved. It was formless at first, then it resolved into a shape—tall, emaciated, with long, spindly arms that ended in needle-like points. It wasn't a guardian. It was a scavenger, drawn by the imnse power of the awakening relics and the vulnerable Progenitor.

It stepped through the tear behind the Heart.

Its head, featureless save for a wide, lipless gash of a mouth, turned slowly toward their defensive circle.

And it smiled.

Daniel cracked his knuckles, the sound like breaking sticks. "Right on ti."

The creature's mouth opened wider, and it let out a soundless shriek that they felt in their teeth. Then it began to glide forward, faster than it should have been able to move, heading straight for the shimring do and the struggling figure inside.
