Now reading: Chapter 209- Avriana Is really a caring sister from Villain's Breeding System: Evolving 999+ Harem into an SSS-Rank Legion, a Fantasy novel by Idiocrat.

Her sister’s arms around her.

The specific, full-body impact of a hug from soone who has been surviving and has just arrived at the person they were surviving toward. Evriana’s arms ca up — automatic, imdiate, no decision — and held her sister against her with the specific, tight grip of soone who is confirming a fact.

"’You’re here,’" she said. Into her sister’s hair.

"’I’m here,’" Celia said. Her voice muffled. She sounded — different. Sothing in the register of it. The specific, changed quality of soone who had been sowhere.

She pulled back.

Looked at her sister’s face.

Then looked at him.

"’Did you—’" She stopped. Looked at Celia. At her state. At the ruined clothes and the specific, complicated expression she was carrying. "’Did you do sothing to her,’" she said.

He looked at her.

"’Do you really think,’" he said, "’that I would touch her knowing what it would an to you?’"

The question landed in the back seat of the car with the specific, architectural weight of sothing that ans more than its surface layer.

Avriana held his gaze for a mont.

Then — and she was aware of this, aware of it as it was happening, the specific, involuntary nature of it — she smiled. Small. Controlled. But there.

"’I see,’" she said.

Through her window, she saw her status bar — the numbers she lived with, the intelligence ranking she’d built, the probability calculations that ran underneath every decision like a second nervous system — and added the new data point: ’he is capable of restraint. He applied it. He applied it specifically here.’ The intelligence ranking flickered.

10/9.

Still the sa impossible number.

She put the smile away.

"’Do you know him?’" Celia said. She was sitting back now, looking between them with the specific, alert expression of soone who has identified that a dynamic is present and wants its na.

"’Yes,’" Avriana said.

"’How,’" Celia said.

"’I sent him,’" Avriana said. Simply. The sa way she said everything — direct, without the decorative framing that other people used to soften things. "’To protect you. On the trip.’"

The car.

Traffic moving a little faster now, the highway opening up.

Celia looked at her sister. Then at him. Then back.

"’You sent him,’" she said.

"’Yes,’" Avriana said.

"’And he—’" She stopped. The specific, edited stop of soone who has a sentence and is choosing not to give it a complete shape in front of her sister. "’He did his job,’" she said instead. Which was not the sentence she had been building.

Avriana looked at her.

"’Yes,’" she said. "’He did.’"

Celia’s jaw set.

The specific, familiar set of it — Avriana had been watching this jaw for her entire life, had learned to read the specific tensions of it the way you learned a language, and what it was saying right now was: ’I have things to say and I am currently deciding how and when to say them’.

"’He’s not trustworthy,’" Celia said.

"’What?’"

"’Fire him,’" Celia said. Her voice carrying the specific, clipped efficiency of soone who has made a decision. "’Whatever arrangent you have with him. End it. He is not a trustworthy person and I will not—’"

"’He saved your life,’" Avriana said.

"’He—’" Celia stopped. "’Yes. He did. He also—’" She stopped again. The sentence was not available. The sentence kept running into sothing in the middle and stopping there.

"’He also—’" Avriana prompted.

Celia looked out the window.

"’I’ll handle it myself,’" she said. "’Don’t fire him. I’ll handle him myself.’"

Avriana looked at her sister.

Then at him.

His expression was entirely neutral. The specific, neutral quality of soone who has heard themselves described as a problem to be handled and finds the description accurate and is not going to argue with it.

The car pulled through the manor gates.

’The manor.’

Stone and glass and the specific, controlled grandeur of soone who had money and had decided to use it precisely rather than ostentatiously. The foyer was cool. High ceilings. The specific, well-ventilated calm of a house that had been designed to process heat.

A house staff mber — not speaking, just present, efficient — had towels. Celia was wrapped in one before she’d finished crossing the threshold. Avriana, at her side, was already issuing quiet instructions that would produce dry clothes and food and water within a specific number of minutes.

He walked in behind them.

Still in the underwear.

Nobody in the house made a comnt about this. The specific, disciplined neutrality of staff who had been with Avriana long enough to understand that comnts about the current state of affairs were not their function.

"’Go upstairs,’" Avriana said to Celia. "’Change. There’s a dical kit in the bathroom—’"

"’I’m fine,’" Celia said.

"’You’ve been on an island for four days—’"

"’I am fine,’" Celia said. The specific, emphatic delivery of soone who ans it and who also ans other things underneath it that she is not yet ready to surface.

She looked at him.

Sothing in the look. The specific, complicated, multi-layered look of soone who has been twenty feet away from sothing all night and has been awake with it ever since and is going to need an indeterminate amount of ti to sort through the layers.

She went upstairs.

The footsteps — careful on the stairs, which was the specific, careful of soone whose body is carrying the last four days in it and is navigating accordingly.

Then the door.

The sitting room.

Him. Her.

Avriana turned.

He was standing at the window, looking at the garden with the specific, patient quality of soone who is comfortable occupying space without explaining himself.

She sat on the arm of the sofa and looked at him.

"’She’s angry at you,’" she said.

"’Yes,’" he said.

"’Significantly angry,’" she said. "’More than I’d expect from four days of general survival circumstances.’"

He said nothing.

"’Did you do sothing to her,’" she said.

"’No,’" he said. He turned from the window. "’But there were three friends of hers.’"

Avriana absorbed this.

"’And—’" she said.

"’I couldn’t help it,’" he said. The specific, simple delivery of a man who has made a judgnt and is reporting the outco.

"’Couldn’t,’" she said. Not quite skeptical. The precise placent of the word that indicated she was holding the claim up to the light and examining it.

"’They were willing,’" he said.

She breathed.

"’Of course they were,’" she said.

She knew his face. Not well — not yet — but well enough to know that of the things it was capable of, the thing it was currently doing was the thing that faces did when the person wearing them looked handso enough that willing was rarely the obstacle. It was never the obstacle.

"’Tell their nas,’" she said. Her voice going back to the working register. "’I’ll speak with their families. Manage any—’"

"’At least you’re helpful,’" he said.

She looked at him.

"’Unlike your sister,’" he added.

"’My sister,’" she said, "’has excellent reasons to be cautious about n who arrive in her life under unusual circumstances and imdiately demonstrate a set of abilities that fall outside the range of normal human capability.’"

"’That’s a generous read,’" he said.

"’She’s my sister,’" Avriana said. "’I’m allowed to be generous.’"

He chuckled.

The specific, low chuckle of soone who has genuinely found sothing amusing.

She looked at him.
