2727 Filth Bone River Cult

GONG LONG

A deafening sound echoed through the mountain as the counter-array Lin Mu had drawn activated, surging with power. The runes he had inscribed pulsed with energy, drilling into the temple's defensive array like a spear piercing armor. The weakened node trembled under the assault, cracks spreading like a web until-

KACHA

The array shattered from within, dissipating into fading embers of light.

"It's done." Lin Mu exhaled, wiping the sweat from his brow.

The effort had drained another twenty percent of his Qi, a testant to the complexity of the formation he had unraveled.

"Finally..." Daoist Chu slumped onto a nearby rock, visibly exhausted. "Please take this." The owner of the Ten Petals Company approached, flanked by attendants bearing trays of fine refreshnts and delicacies.

"Oh, thank you." Lin Mu accepted the offerings, savoring the nourishnt.

"This is excellent. The Ten Petals Company truly lives up to its reputation." Daoist Chu sighed in contentnt after taking a sip of the fragrant tea.

With their Qi replenished, they prepared for the next step.

"Let's enter." Lin Mu led the way toward the grand entrance, which now resembled the yawning maw of a behemoth rather than a re cave. The once-hidden temple had erged from the mountain's embrace, its foreboding silhouette standing stark against the sky. SHUA

Lin Mu placed a hand against the massive stone doors, their surface inscribed with dark, twisting etchings that seed to slither under his touch. A flicker of resistance pulsed through them, but he pressed forward with force.

BANG

The doors groaned, then fell backward with a thunderous crash.

The temple's interior was finally revealed.

A dim glow emanated from aged illumination pearls embedded into the walls and ceiling, their light casting eerie, flickering shadows. The air was thick with the scent of decay and sothing far more insidious-a lingering malevolence that coiled around them like invisible tendrils.

"What blasphemous statues are these?" The Abbot's voice wavered, his usually serene expression twisted into a frown.

The monks murmured prayers under their breath, eyes darting around uneasily.

The statues that lined the chamber were grotesque, their forms twisted and unnatural. Unlike the lone sentinel outside, these effigies exuded a palpable dread, as if the stone itself pulsed with an imprisoned will.

Four colossal statues lood in the chamber's center, each one a towering depiction of an ancient demon. Their forms defied nature- serpentine bodies wrapped around humanoid torsos, elongated arms ending in claws sharp enough to rend steel, gaping maws bristling with jagged fangs. Their obsidian eyes glead, seeming almost sentient in the dim light.

Smaller statues lined the walls, hunched figures with grotesquely exaggerated features-distended bellies, unnaturally stretched limbs, and faces frozen in eternal screams. Their open mouths seed to whisper even in silence, as if voicing long-forgotten curses.

"Demons," Lin Mu said grimly.

"Why are demon statues here? Is this a demonic temple?" Daoist Chu wondered aloud.

"There haven't been demons in the Shanxi Empire for hundreds of thousands of years," First Elder muttered, his face pale.

"That doesn't an they were never here." Lin Mu's voice was heavy with understanding. "Demons once road these lands before they were hunted down or forced to migrate to the other continent."

"This ans..." Daoist Chu's words trailed off as realization dawned.

"This temple predates Ram Orchard City... It predates the empire itself." Lin Mu's expression darkened.

The implications sent a chill down their spines.

"Then that unknown script outside... that was the Shamanic Script of the Demon Tribes?" Daoist Chu asked.

"Most likely." Lin Mu nodded.

"You couldn't read it?" Daoist Chu seed surprised.

"It's not the variation I'm familiar with. It might be an ancient dialect

from a specific demon tribe." Lin Mu surmised.

The group stepped further into the hall, their movents slow and asured. An oppressive aura weighed on them like an unseen force.

"Defend yourselves!" Lin Mu commanded, sensing the rising malevolence.

"All monks, with !" The Abbot's voice rang with authority.

"Amitabha!"

A resonant chant followed, the monks harmonizing in perfect unison.

HUMMMMMM

A golden radiance blossod from their forms, expanding outward in a protective do of sacred energy. The foul aura recoiled, unable to breach the sanctified light.

"This should shield us from the corruption lingering here," the Abbot assured.

"Thank you, Abbot." Lin Mu turned his focus to the far end of the hall.

Above the four demonic statues, a massive stone carving adorned the ceiling. Unlike the defaced carvings outside, this one remained intact. Its ominous letters glowed faintly under the dim light, etching their presence into the minds of all who beheld them.

"Filth Bone River Cult." Lin Mu read aloud.

The na reverberated through the chamber, hanging in the air like

an incantation of doom.

The statues seed to shift-an illusion, surely-but for a mont, they appeared to glare at the intruders.

Lin Mu's eyes drifted downward, catching sight of a massive sacrificial altar positioned before the statues. It was carved from black stone, its surface scarred with dried remnants of unholy rituals. A stone tablet sat atop the altar, its faded inscriptions barely legible.

He stepped closer and read:

"All Filth Returns to the Depths,

All deaths bring forth the Pestilence,

A million specters rise from the Depths, A billion lives are taken by the Pestilence."

A collective shudder ran through the group.

"What is this place?" First Elder whispered, horror evident in his

voice.

"This is an Ancestral Demonic Worship Temple." Lin Mu's voice was

grim. "You an these statues aren't re effigies?" Daoist Chu hesitated.

"They were once real demons." Lin Mu confird. "And considering

the energy still clinging to them, they must have been incredibly

powerful."

"To think such a thing was buried beneath our sect..." The Grand

Elder's voice wavered.

"There are more paths ahead." First Elder pointed to hidden corridors behind the smaller statues.

"Spread out. Stay cautious." Lin Mu instructed.

As they explored deeper, they uncovered a vast subterranean network. The temple was but one chamber in a sprawling labyrinth

that stretched beneath the River Bending Axe Sect, its tendrils reaching even the now-sunken Core Island.

"This is directly beneath the Qi Channeling Array's core!" The Grand Elder's eyes widened in horror.
