The Jun Residence

The gentle drizzle softened the world into a blur of silver and grey, masking the cold stone paths of the Jun residence in a blanket of rain.

Guan Qing Han walked slowly, her steps asured and absent-minded. Her thoughts drifted like leaves in the current, uncontrolled, yet calm.

The events of the day had been surreal.

Monts ago, her heart had been crushed with despair, buried under the weight of betrayal, loneliness, and helplessness. And now, it floated lightly, buoyed by the strength of a man who had stood up for her, as if declaring war on the entire world without hesitation.

'Even if my own father had abandoned … so what?' She thought, her fingers gently brushing a wet lock of hair behind her ear. 'I have Uncle Jun… and I have Mo Xie...'

A soft warmth spread in her chest.

'He said I should just leave everything to him. And I will... If the Xue Hun Manor thinks they're invincible, they're wrong. They've made the biggest mistake of their lives by touching … because in doing so, they've touched him.'

A faint glimr of pride flared in her gaze.

'He's a true son of the Jun Family. He won't let his own woman be bullied. He won't forgive them. How brutal will their end be, I wonder…?'

Lost in thought, she turned the corner into her courtyard and nearly walked straight into a tall, drenched figure.

Startled, she stopped in her tracks, and her breath caught in her throat.

Standing before her courtyard gate, soaked completely, stood Guan Dong Liu, her biological father.

His heavy robes clung to his body, and his hair, once proud and neatly combed, now hung limp across his shoulders. Rain stread down his weather-worn face. Yet beneath the cold exterior, his eyes betrayed him, carrying the sorrow of a father who had lost sothing that couldn't be reclaid.

Qing Han froze.

The silence between them stretched, neither of them able to speak. They stood in the rain, unmoving, their shared pain hanging between them like an invisible wall too thick to break, yet too fragile to leave untouched.

A bolt of lightning tore through the sky, illuminating their faces for a brief second.

In that single flash of light, mories flooded back to her, childhood days when he used to carry her on his shoulders, when his hand used to ruffle her hair, when his eyes used to brim with laughter.

And now, they brimd with regret.

Her voice trembled.

"…Daddy…"

The word slipped out on its own, almost like a whisper.

Guan Dong Liu stiffened.

"Qing Han…" His voice was hoarse, worn by age and grief. "Do you… bla your daddy?"

She looked at him, eyes glistening with unshed tears. Slowly, she shook her head. "I don't bla you, Father. You're my father… but before that, you're also the master of the Guan Family. And as the master… you have to carry the weight of thousands of lives. I… I understand."

Guan Dong Liu's shoulders slumped as he exhaled slowly. A sigh that seed to carry years of guilt.

"But even so," He lifted his eyes again, "Qing Han… if I were to go back to that mont… I…" His lips quivered.

"I… would still make the sa choice."

His words struck like a hamr to the heart.

"I'm sorry, Qing Han. I'll never be able to be the father you deserve. But I—"

"Don't," She cut him off, her voice suddenly fragile again. "Please… don't say that."

She stepped forward. "You're soaking wet. Let's go inside and talk…"

But Guan Dong Liu shook his head.

"No. Let's talk right here… in the rain. It's the only thing keeping sober. If we go inside, I might not have the courage to say all that needs to be said."

She hesitated and then nodded.

"I know it's too late, and it may not matter now," He continued, his voice thick, "but there are so things I wanted you to know about the Xue Hun Manor… and everything that happened."

Qing Han lowered her gaze. "Please… tell ."

He closed his eyes, pained. "When the proposal ca from the Xue Hun Manor… several Elders insisted I agree imdiately. We couldn't afford to provoke them. But if you were to marry into their house, then… it would secure our future. It would protect our people and lift our standing."

She bit her lips hard, her face gradually hardening.

"Qing Bo… he was ambitious. He has always been. He wanted to dominate the southeast and saw this as a stepping stone. He urged to accept it. But your mother… and Qing Yue… they were against it... Your mother cried every day, her tears never stopping."

Her body trembled.

"There was a second condition, too," He said, voice bitter. "They said… even if you married Li Teng Yun, you wouldn't receive the title of the First Wife but would only receive equal treatnt. Qing Bo went to negotiate with Li Jue Tian, but he was shut down imdiately."

Guan Dong Liu looked away.

"After that, the three of us... Qing Bo, Qing Yue, and I ca to Tian Xiang City to talk to you…"

"I don't even know what I am to the family," Qing Han whispered, her voice suddenly low and sharp. "A commodity? A pawn?"

She took a step forward, her fists clenched.

"I didn't resist the initial engagent. Even though I didn't know Mo You at the ti… I still accepted it. Because that was the family's will. And when I t him, I saw he was a nobleman. I was happy… truly happy with your choice, Father."

"But then… he died."

Her voice cracked. "He died a hero. And I was willing to spend the rest of my life as his widow. I was even prepared to convince you and the Elders…"

Her lips twisted into a bitter smile. "But then you decided for ... again."

"You said I should remain a widow… not because of love, or loyalty… but because the Jun Family's support was more valuable than my life. My grief was used as a tool."

"Sha…" She said, a laugh rising in her throat, bitter and cold. "Even my widowhood was a bargaining chip. A woman's most sacred vow turned into a transaction."

"Father, tell ," She asked, voice trembling with anger now, "how many tis has the Guan Family used the Jun Family's power to grow, to expand its businesses and holdings these last few years?"

"And now that things have changed… that the wind is shifting… the Elders want to remarry? To be sent off like a package to the Li Family?"

She laughed again, cruelly this ti. "Do they think I'm so fruit in the market? That they can just change the price and hand over to the next bidder?"

"Do I even matter, father?! Do I?!"

Guan Dong Liu didn't reply. His silence was heavier than words.

"I am still a daughter-in-law of the Jun Family! And now… now they want to make a concubine? If Li Jue Tian decides one day that I'm better off with Yun Bei Chen, then what? The Guan Family will bow and agree again? Because he's more powerful? Because it brings more benefits?"

"I've lost count of the number of tis I've been sold in the na of the family's future."

She raised her eyes to et his, no longer shaking. Her voice was firm now, steel beneath velvet.

"I will never go to the Li Family, nor will Mo Xie let go. I will never be their concubine. He would never let live in disgrace for a cause as filthy as that. It is already crossing his bottom line."

"And too... I'd rather see the Guan Family destroyed, and fall with honor, than survive as cowards who beg and trade their own daughters like cattle."

Her final words tore through the rain like thunder, clear and cold:

"If I have to drag the Guan Family down with , I will. But I will never let them sell again...."

The rain continued falling, but sothing in the air had changed.

She stood tall, proud, and resolute. The little girl who had once clung to her father's robes was gone.

And before Guan Dong Liu now stood a woman forged in heartbreak, fire, and love... a woman protected by Jun Mo Xie, and unafraid of the world.
