Sheng Jiayu pursed her lips and explained again, "It’s flooded outside, and it’s getting dark, not very safe."
Her explanation was completely unnecessary. Even if she didn’t explain, Mu Ke wouldn’t think her invitation had any other aning.
But now, as he looked at the woman standing amidst the candlelight, in pajamas, wrapped in a coat, Mu Ke’s heart couldn’t help but feel touched.
He wasn’t playing hard to get; in fact, after knowing Sheng Jiayu was avoiding him, he reflected on whether he had been too pushy.
And today, if it weren’t for these unexpected circumstances, he would also have patiently waited for her to slowly co out of her shell.
So, when he said he was leaving, he was serious. But now, the person who had moved him to this day was standing in the candlelight, inviting him without any ulterior motives.
Mu Ke’s previous patience was thrown to the nine heavens; this woman... really left him clueless about what to do.
He flung the bag in his hand onto the sofa, turned back: "Thank you."
Sheng Jiayu felt a bit awkward again, so she simply picked up the tablet and randomly chose a movie to watch. Initially, she just wanted to divert her attention, but gradually, she was drawn into the movie’s plot.
It was a foreign film that told the story of a family’s matriarch who was seriously ill and planned to end her life through euthanasia.
After discussing with her husband, she called back her daughter and son-in-law, intending for the family to have a reunion.
The story wasn’t complex, nor did it have breathtaking scenes or any grand production. Even the setting was quite simple, but for so reason, it was captivating and moving to watch.
It vividly portrayed the children’s love for their mother, their misunderstanding of their father, and the wife’s love for her husband, the husband’s respect and forbearance for his wife.
Sheng Jiayu didn’t know why, but she was just really touched watching it.
As the film reached the ending, watching the children drive away one by one, the matriarch consu the dication, and the patriarch’s lonely silhouette leaving ho alone, Sheng Jiayu’s eyes suddenly beca moist.
In the story’s finale, it only left the matriarch, who had taken the dication, lying alone at ho — just to prevent her family from being implicated. The difference between suicide and homicide was rely a word.
A clear tear slid down Sheng Jiayu’s cheek, and in the corner of her eye, a tissue suddenly appeared. Mu Ke reached out to wipe the tears off her face, his cool voice sounding: "Touched?"
Sheng Jiayu nodded: "An indescribable feeling."
Mu Ke didn’t smile, just gently wiped the tear streaks at the corner of her eyes.
After a few seconds, the man’s pleasant voice slowly erged: "The origin and end of life are unavoidable; the difference between people lies in what is experienced between the beginning and the end."
Sheng Jiayu pursed her lips, looked up to et Mu Ke’s eyes. The candlelight was tranquil, and in the man’s eyes, spots of candle flas flickered, not as dark as usual, with a different kind of warmth.
Sheng Jiayu felt her heart in her chest suddenly stall for a second.
Not knowing if it was due to the environnt at the ti or because of the suppressed yet unsuppressable emotion in Mu Ke’s eyes.
Or maybe it was his remark — couldn’t pinpoint where it touched, yet sohow it struck a chord within her.
Sheng Jiayu suddenly felt that she, lurking in her shell, was so pitiful.
Having lost love, she rejected love.
At first glance, it seed reasonable, but in reality, it was nonsense.
