Sheng Jiayu had been in a pretty good mood today, but now she suddenly felt a bit down.
Returning ho, she took off her bright red coat and sat on the sofa, feeling a bit wilted, a stark contrast to the festive atmosphere outside.
After a long while, Sheng Jiayu’s phone suddenly rang. The caller ID was a string of numbers with no note, but Jiayu was all too familiar with those digits.
Her expression changed instantly, and after hesitating for a while, she reached out to take it: "Hello?"
The person on the other end remained silent for a mont before a low voice ca through: "Jiayu, it’s ."
Sheng Jiayu lowered her eyelids slightly: "Hmm, what’s up?"
The noise in the background suggested the person was in a very noisy environnt.
"I’m at the entrance of your complex, could you co out for a bit?"
Xin Ke’s voice sounded deep and, suddenly, there was a sharp pain in Sheng Jiayu’s heart. She knew she should refuse, knew she should leave no room, but she couldn’t bring herself to say "no." After a few seconds of silence, she nodded: "Okay."
"Thank you."
Grabbing her coat, she put it on and went out. Sheng Jiayu went downstairs, and just as she reached the entrance of the complex, she saw that familiar car parked by the roadside.
It was still the sa car she had given Xin Ke for his birthday the year before last.
The man was leaning against the car door, a cigarette between his fingers. Sheng Jiayu noticed several cigarette butts at his feet, indicating he had been standing there for quite a while.
Steadying herself, Sheng Jiayu walked over: "Is there sothing you need from ?"
Xin Ke stubbed out his cigarette and opened the car door for Sheng Jiayu: "It’s cold outside, co and sit in the car."
She could never refuse his requests, even now. Sheng Jiayu despised herself fiercely in her heart but still got in.
Inside the car, the space was cramped and the atmosphere was even more oppressing.
Sheng Jiayu asked again why he had co to see her. Xin Ke finally spoke, not answering, but instead recounting his encounters today and in recent tis.
The company’s performance was steadily declining, and there had been so scandals. Not long ago, it was discovered that a relative of Su Wan had tampered with the accounts, embezzling a lot of public funds, leaving the company unable to turn things around quickly, and he had to shalessly borrow money from others.
And today, being Christmas Eve, Su Wan had been pestering him for a gift. He had ordered her a cake, but she was very unhappy and directly smashed the cake on the ground, saying it was worthless.
Holding a magazine, she pointed to a diamond necklace costing over a hundred thousand on it and told him she wanted it, insisting he buy it and give it to her.
Xin Ke couldn’t take it anymore, had a big fight with her, and stord out.
Sheng Jiayu listened quietly, not feeling pleased, just finding it terribly ironic.
"So what are you trying to express by telling all this?"
"I..."
Xin Ke was at a loss for words and finally choked out a sentence: "I don’t know who else to talk to, these things are bottled up inside , I’m... about to go crazy."
Sheng Jiayu’s eyes felt a bit warm, but the sarcasm in her heart was even stronger: "Xin Ke, Su Wan is the woman you chose. Now that there are problems between you two, what do you an by coming to to complain? You’re going crazy; when I was forced to divorce by you two back then, who should I have gone to? Or are you telling you’ve now realized my worth? Ha, if that’s the case, let tell you, a diamond necklace costing over a hundred thousand, I, Sheng Jiayu, don’t fancy at all."
