Chapter 64: Applying to Fight My Wife
Everyone stared at Chuer writhing and twisting on the ground in absolute agony, frozen in place.
What had happened to Chuer? Why had he suddenly started carrying on as though he were half-dead?
Leah, however, had spotted the Crimson Potion in Viktor's hand, and realized almost imdiately what Viktor had done.
"That miraculous potion again?"
Watching the strangely convulsing Chuer on the ground, Leah ford a rough guess.
If the colors corresponded—the blue potion corresponded to Magic Power recovery, so the red one should correspond to life recovery.
Leah's guess was not wrong.
At this mont, in Viktor's eyes, Chuer's Health Bar was flickering back and forth without stop.
The instant the poison entered his system and his Health Bar was about to bottom out into the death state, Viktor would force a fresh Recovery Potion down his throat.
Viktor was steadily holding Chuer in a state suspended between life and death.
What Chuer was feeling right now was deeply strange.
In a single mont, he felt as though his soul had grown weightless—as though he was about to ascend at any instant, up into the legendary paradise.
And then the next second, his consciousness would snap back into his body.
Over and over, he felt his body bearing the agony of ten thousand ants gnawing at his heart, his limbs stiff and rigid, unable to make even the smallest movent to ease the pain.
Not even suicide was within his reach.
Foam bubbled at the corners of his mouth, his eyes were shot through with blood, drool ran freely down his chin, and he scread at Viktor with everything he had:
"Kill ! Kill right now!"
Viktor watched him in silence, waiting for Chuer to sink once more into the anguish of near-death.
Ti and again his consciousness blurred, his life flashing before him in a procession of mories—and ti and again, Viktor shattered it with his own hand.
Chuer understood he was probably not going to die. All he could do was wait for the poison to eat through his body, only to be hurled into a fresh abyss of agony by the man standing before him.
After a while, the poison's effects finally ran out.
Viktor had used several vials of potion, and had stubbornly dragged Chuer's life back from the edge each ti.
Chuer felt sensation gradually returning to his body, and the pain slowly began to ebb.
"Is it finally over...?"
Shk!
Before he could even draw a breath of relief, he felt blades pierce straight through all 4 of his limbs in an instant.
The staggering, unbearable pain surged through him once more.
The limbs that had only just recovered were ruined all over again, and Chuer's ntal state completely shattered.
"Monster—you absolute monster!"
Shk!
Viktor drove the blade through Chuer's palm and pinned it into the earth.
Crimson blood rged with the soil.
He did not look at the howling, pain-wracked Chuer again—he only bent down and picked up the Anti-Magic Stone and the round shield from the ground.
The instant he picked up both items, Viktor's eyes caught the corresponding attributes.
【Item Na: Evil Knight】 【Effect: 100 HP, 30 Physical Defense】 【Skill: Parry—Deflects an attack from a facing enemy in an instant. Upon a successful Parry, inflicts up to 1 second of Stagger.】
【Item Na: Anti-Magic Stone】 【Description: Capable of blocking the flow of Magic Power within a set range.】
The 'Evil Knight'—this was the sche Chuer had prepared for him at the very end.
If soone didn't know the Parry skill's effect and recklessly attacked the shield—
They would be stunned for 1 second.
And Chuer, as a Boss, could do a great deal with that 1 second of Stagger—enough, without question, to take half a Player's life.
This was also why many Players struggled to defeat Chuer on their first encounter.
Even later on, without an overwhelming gap in Level and equipnt, Chuer's standalone shield alone was more than enough to catch many Players completely off guard.
Getting Parried by a Boss and then taking a blade to the ribs was not exactly a pleasant experience.
Fortunately, Chuer's every move was as transparent as glass to Viktor.
Not to ntion that the Chuer of right now was nowhere near as powerful as the Boss version in the future.
Even if Viktor were handed a Level 10 warrior account, he could still take him down without taking a single hit through pure skill alone.
It would just take a little longer.
Viktor tucked the shield away and turned his gaze toward the Anti-Magic Stone.
The Anti-Magic Stone—its effect was as straightforward as its na.
Even within the Kingdom, these things were pitifully scarce.
Why did Viktor know about them? Naturally, because he had used one before.
As an item, this thing was practically a divine weapon for tornting Mages.
Just picture it: a Mage Player out in the wilderness stumbles upon a wild Boss, takes it down, and is just about to divide up the spoils.
Then so passing Player cos sprinting in, drops an Anti-Magic Stone on the ground, scoops up all the loot, and bolts.
That image...
At the mory of it, Viktor broke into a faint smile.
Yes. That wild passing Player had been him.
Seeing Viktor leave Chuer's side, Leah allowed a faint smile of her own.
As though she had always believed Viktor could not possibly lose.
"Go. It's our turn to clean up."
Leah's subordinates snapped back to their senses and quickly moved in, closing around Chuer to restrain him.
Viktor walked toward Leah.
As he passed Leon, he made a point of glancing at her.
Though Viktor had been inside the barrier, he had still noticed Leon the mont she moved to co rescue him.
Her agility had left a strong impression on him, and now, seeing that familiar appearance and those green eyes up close, a wave of recognition washed over him.
He still rembered—among Leah's subordinates, there was one particularly swift Elf attendant.
Her speed was like lightning, and she moved through enemy camps at night as though there were no one there at all.
She had once slain 17 Imperial nobles in a single night and was known as the most elite and most secretive assassin in the Empire.
And so, he spoke quietly, as though testing the waters.
"Leon?"
At the sound of her na, Leon's body gave an involuntary shudder. She looked toward Viktor, and took several involuntary steps back.
How did Viktor know her na?
Impossible—Miss Leah would never have revealed her.
She feigned composure and made no response.
But Viktor had caught that split-second reaction, and it only confird what he already suspected.
His eyes traveled over Leon from head to foot, going over her without the slightest regard for whether it was polite.
Leon felt a chill run through her. Viktor's gaze felt as though it had seen straight through everything she was.
Then Viktor withdrew his eyes. A faint smile touched his otherwise cold face, and he gave her a small nod.
He walked past her without pausing for even a mont.
Leon spun around sharply—but Viktor was already standing at Leah's side.
"Not too late, I hope."
"I could have handled it even without you coming."
Leah turned her head and shrugged. She had no intention of letting an Anti-Magic Stone be used as leverage against her.
Still—Viktor coming over when he did had given her a quiet warmth in her chest.
She stole a sidelong glance at Viktor.
As she had thought—she wasn't sure when it had started.
But Viktor had gradually beco different.
At so point, the Crow had flown down from above and perched itself on Viktor's shoulder.
At the sight of the Crow, Leah felt a flicker of puzzlent.
"Why didn't I notice it earlier?"
Viktor gave Leah a reply that seed to co from nowhere and lead nowhere.
"Because I never fight a battle I'm not prepared for."
Leah scratched her head, thoroughly baffled.
What did that have to do with the question she'd asked?
She had no way of knowing, of course.
If the Viktor trapped inside the Anti-Magic Stone field had truly been unable to defeat Chuer—
Then Weija, waiting outside, would have dismantled the Anti-Magic Stone barrier in an instant.
The probability of Viktor losing to Chuer was, at most, 1 percent.
But even that 1 percent—Viktor intended to eliminate it entirely.
He had to achieve a complete victory. To beco a winner who never lost.
"The interrogation phase—I'll leave that to you."
Viktor said to Leah evenly, and Leah's expression turned serious as she replied:
"Naturally. I'll root out every last parasite in the family from him."
Leah said it coldly.
A stranger from the Kingdom had infiltrated the Territory of her family—she had long since prepared for this.
In truth, Chuer had gone under a false identity from the very beginning, having forged himself a new one within the Empire.
Leah had known all of this long ago.
After all, the person who had forged that false identity for Chuer was one of the Clavena Family's own subordinates.
What appeared to be Chuer's flawless disguise had, in reality, been playing out beneath Leah's nose the entire ti.
Leah turned toward Viktor and said:
"Those potions of yours—give a few vials."
Viktor looked at Leah. Behind the surface of that smile, he couldn't guess what kind of cold thoughts she was concealing.
She was smiling, and yet her voice ca out with an icy edge.
"I would rather not have this fellow die by accident during the interrogation."
Viktor shook out 5 vials of potion from his Coat.
"10,000 Geo each. Don't forget to pay."
Leah shot Viktor a sharp glare, snatched up the 5 vials, and left without looking back.
Her voice carried behind her as she went.
"Co get it yourself when you're back!"
After she had gone, Weija looked toward Viktor.
"How can you even take money from your own little sister?"
"Your snack fund."
"Love it! You should charge even more!"
***
A Teleportation Formation materialized beneath Viktor's feet, and he vanished in an instant.
Interrogation wasn't sothing Viktor had any particular interest in, nor was it sothing he was especially skilled at.
Better to hand it off to a professional like Leah.
In the blink of an eye, accompanied by the appearance of an azure-blue Formation, Viktor reappeared at the Manor entrance, where the Knights keeping the night watch had long been waiting.
When Viktor had returned the night before, Helnersen had already inford the Knights on night duty that the Master of the House had co ho.
The Knights had naturally been prepared well in advance.
The mont they laid eyes on Viktor, they bowed in greeting.
Viktor gave a nod and stepped into the Manor.
Though it was the middle of the night, Viktor felt not the slightest hint of sleep.
He turned the round shield over and over in his hands, just like a child who had just gotten a new toy and was eager to test out its effects.
Any ans of making himself stronger—he welcod them all without exception.
His thoughts turned to Helnersen.
This powerful Bear-man warrior, as a sparring partner for Viktor, would be more than sufficient.
More than sufficient, in fact—he might very well kill him with a single punch.
At that thought, Viktor promptly abandoned the idea of asking Helnersen to spar with him.
It was true that a gap in stats could be compensated for through skill, but skill was not all-powerful.
When the stat gap was so wide that he couldn't even break through the opponent's defenses—
No amount of technique would make any difference.
Helnersen was not a suitable sparring partner. So who else could he practice close combat with?
Suddenly, a silver-white figure flashed through his mind.
He opened his mouth, and murmured her na.
"Gwen Delin."
