Matthew Saxon glanced at the place where she was staring eagerly and shook his head.
He had hardly tried any of these street foods.
Not that he thought the taste was bad, just felt they weren’t very sanitary.
The ingredients on the bamboo skewers didn’t look very fresh, and he never had much appetite for less-than-fresh things.
Scarlett Yates rubbed her hands, wiggled herself out of his overcoat, licked her lips, and smiled, "This is called oden. It looks plain, but the taste is pretty good. Want to try it?"
"It’s really delicious! I promise, it tastes great!"
Actually, she wanted to eat it herself.
Matthew furrowed his brow, intending to say he never eats such unsanitary street foods. But when he looked down into her shining eyes, what he had ant to say turned into a different sentence: "Well... let’s give it a try."
"Wait here then, I’ll go pick out the ingredients."
Scarlett walked to the stall and quickly chose the ingredients she wanted to eat.
During that ti, she asked Matthew what he liked to eat, and he said he would eat whatever she chose.
So, Scarlett picked a bowl full following her own taste, including her favorite beef balls, filled with broth and having a chewy texture; she could eat eight or nine at a ti.
After it was packed, Matthew tried to pay.
Scarlett stopped him with a chuckle, digging out so change from her bag and handing it to the Boss, then teasing him with a smile: "This kind of street food doesn’t cost much, let treat you. Your wallet is full of foreign currency, the Boss might not dare to accept it, might even think you’re handing over ghost money."
Looking at the bowl of oden in Scarlett’s hand, Matthew asked, "How much is this?"
Scarlett ntioned an amount, then said: "Normally, I wouldn’t get this many beef balls because they’re the most expensive, more than three each. But since you’re here, I added eight more. So, this bowl of oden is much more expensive than what I usually get."
Matthew dismissed it, saying, "More than three for a beef ball, that’s so cheap, can there be real beef inside?"
Scarlett snorted softly, "You don’t understand the hardships of common people. Of course, it can’t be compared to the high-end cuisines you eat, but the taste is not bad at all."
As she spoke, she brought a ball up to Matthew’s mouth, "Here, try it."
Matthew wrinkled his brow, his expression a bit conflicted, staring at the steaming beef ball for several seconds, raising his eyebrows skeptically: "These beef balls, not knowing what ingredients they’re made of, can they really be eaten, won’t make you sick?"
It slls pretty good.
"Don’t worry, I’ve been eating them for so many years and never got sick once." Scarlett knew he was used to eating and wearing only the best since childhood, he probably hadn’t even seen much of street food like this, which is why he’s so uncertain.
To persuade him to eat this ball, she went to great lengths to continue coaxing him, "This beef ball is really delicious, just give it a try. If you think it’s bad, I won’t force you to keep eating. Didn’t you say you wanted to try to fit into my lifestyle? This is how I usually live."
Matthew looked down at the beef ball at his mouth, then at Scarlett, furrowed his brow for a long ti, but ultimately decided to give her face, opening his mouth and taking a bite.
"How is it, how is it, isn’t it delicious?" Scarlett’s bright eyes carried a hint of anticipation.
