The maids who had just finished their discussion gathered together again with excitent and eagerness to gossip.
"Did you hear? The young master threw a tantrum."
"I just heard that the young master went to the study. It seems that he’s really angry this ti, preferring to stay in the study rather than in the sa room with her."
"If you ask , this Miss Yates is really sothing. The young master treats her so well, yet she doesn’t appreciate it and even angers him. She’s truly unaware of her blessings."
"Perhaps the wedding might actually be canceled. Oh my, that would be great if it were! She wasn’t ant for the young master anyway. By then, Old Master Douglas could find a rich lady compatible with him, and she could just go back where she ca from."
As they spoke, it was as if they had already envisioned Scarlett Yates being abandoned, and each revealed expressions of inexplicable excitent.
Dragons should pair with dragons, phoenixes with phoenixes; people of the sa status should be paired with fitting companions. That ugly duckling dreaming of becoming a swan is far from easy.
--
Matthew Saxon returned from the study when it was close to five in the morning.
He opened the door and entered the room, only to find that Scarlett Yates was not in bed.
The room was empty, aside from the ticking sound of the clock on the wall and his own footsteps; no other sounds were heard.
The room had a light left on, the dimst kind, hazy like the glow of traditional lanterns, extrely faint.
Matthew stood by the bed, looking at the corner of the quilt that was lifted, and his brows furrowed.
Did she go to sleep in another room again?
The anger that had barely subsided ignited once more.
She once again treated his words as ear-level wind.
He had told her not to go anywhere, yet she deliberately defied him. Isn’t this intentionally provoking his anger?
Matthew clenched his fingers tightly, squeezing the lid of a round box in his hand, creating a small dent.
This box was sothing he specially looked for downstairs in the dicine kit, containing ointnt with excellent effects for promoting blood circulation and reducing swelling. Applied to the skin, as long as the bruises are not too severe, they would heal in two days.
The injuries from the bath sponge on Scarlett Yates’s body, he hadn’t ignored.
While bathing her, every ti he saw those red marks, his anger surged and he couldn’t control his strength.
He knew he hurt her.
She cried from the pain.
But at that ti, he was full of rage, and seeing her cry only made him more irritable. The more she cried in pain, the harder he reacted.
Afterward, he felt a bit regretful, recalling the ointnt with good blood circulation and swelling reduction effects, and rummaged downstairs for half an hour to find the ointnt.
Now, the ointnt box was in his hand, and he vented all his anger on the box, deforming the lid before coldly tossing it onto the ground.
He shouldn’t have been soft-hearted.
She betrayed him first; such punishnt was already considered light.
No man could tolerate such betrayal.
She was the one who made mistakes, so why could she still act so aggrieved and hurt?
After realizing Scarlett Yates wasn’t in the room, Matthew Saxon suppressed his rage and turned to walk out, intending to drag her back.
As he turned, he heard a distinctly muffled sob from the direction of the balcony.
