A night passed.
Scarlett Yates’s eyes were swollen like light bulbs, her face pale and ashen, as if dusted with powder, looking utterly haggard.
Her eyes were bloodshot, and her lips were dry and peeling. She took the mineral water Uncle Thompson gave her, drank a few sips, and shivered twice as the ice water went down her stomach.
She felt a bit of a headache, her throat was sore, and her limbs were achy and weak.
She thought she must have caught a cold.
When Uncle Thompson ca in with breakfast and saw her looking so sickly, he paused and frowned, "Miss Yates, are you ill?"
"Seems like it." Scarlett said, sneezing twice in succession.
Uncle Thompson frowned again: "If you go back to Matthew like this, he might think I deliberately mistreated you."
As he spoke, he handed her the bag in his hand: "There are clothes in here, put them on quickly, and later go buy so dicine."
Scarlett took the clothes shivering, wrapped herself in a down jacket, but still felt icy waves hitting her body.
She was genuinely ill.
Having been cold all night, if she didn’t have any issues now, she would really be superhuman.
Breakfast was simple, a fried dough stick and a cup of soy milk. As Uncle Thompson handed Scarlett the breakfast bag, the sll of oil from the fried dough stick repulsed Scarlett, making her frown: "I have no appetite."
"Then drink the soy milk; you can’t go without eating anything."
The soy milk was still warm. Scarlett hesitated for a few seconds before taking the bag and reluctantly finishing the soy milk.
Sunlight stread in through the window, casting light on her pale cheeks, highlighting her sickly appearance.
"Can you hang in there?" Uncle Thompson gave her a few glances, his frown deepening.
Scarlett forced a feeble smile, trying to ignore the chills running through her, nodding: "I’m fine."
According to the agreent Uncle Thompson and Matthew Saxon made yesterday, today, Uncle Thompson was supposed to take her back.
At the thought of returning to Z City, even though her head was killing her, Scarlett gritted her teeth and endured it.
She didn’t want a re cold and fever to delay her return.
"Then let’s go." Uncle Thompson could see she was holding on with effort, said nothing more, turned to open the door, and walked ahead of Scarlett, saying as he walked, "Matthew Saxon does keep his promises. Young Master and Madam have already been released from the police station. Once we hand you over to him, Young Master and Madam will truly be free."
Scarlett was a bit excited; though she felt uncomfortable, and her headache intensified, her eyes grew brighter.
As the door opened, choking dust hit her, making Scarlett cough several tis in breath.
In a raspy voice, worsened by a persistent high fever, she asked, "Are we going to the airport now?"
"Yes."
Walking out of the shabby abandoned building, the air suddenly beca much fresher.
The warm sunlight fell on her, making Scarlett’s pale face appear even more haggard.
A black car was parked by the roadside outside, with a few people standing beside it.
Seeing Uncle Thompson and Scarlett co out, soone beside the car opened the door.
Uncle Thompson and Scarlett sat in the back, with the driver and another man in the front.
Before getting in, Uncle Thompson instructed the driver to stop at a pharmacy on the way to the airport. Midway, he had soone get off to buy Scarlett so cold dicine.
