Chapter 1598: Chapter 736: Yanks’ Gear Really Gets the Job Done

Portland Port, Southern beachhead.

The steel ramp of the first batch of landing craft heavily crashed onto the beach mixed with sand and shells.

xican Marine Corps soldiers, wearing M1 helts, sward out of the craft, quickly dispersing into platoons, advancing towards the shore in combat formation.

The salty sea breeze carried a pungent sll as it rushed towards them.

“First platoon to the left, capture the abandoned lighthouse ahead! Second platoon to the right, control that damaged warehouse area. Third platoon, follow , and establish a forward command post! Quick! Quick! Quick!”

Major Canino, commander of the First Battalion of the First Marine Regint, was half-squatting beside an AAV-7 amphibious armored vehicle that had just rushed ashore, scanning the port facilities ahead through binoculars. The anticipated beachhead resistance fire never appeared, only a few seabirds were startled, circling and calling in the sky.

“Report, Major, beachhead cleared, no enemy found.” The voice of the communications soldier ca through the headphones.

“All platoons advance towards the city as planned, stay alert! Watch out for potential snipers inside the buildings!” Canino ordered.

The vanguard forces began to cautiously advance along the road leading to the city.

Leading the charge were two LAV-25 wheeled armored vehicles painted with the xican Marine Corps emblem, and their 25mm chain guns rotated towards every window that might hide danger.

The infantry relied on the armored vehicles for cover, advancing alternately, with their gun barrels always pointed towards potential threats.

The first few hundred ters remained quiet, only the distant rumble of the xican Fleet preparing for a second round of artillery fire could be heard.

However, as the leading companies passed through a coastal comrcial area destroyed by artillery fire and were about to enter the outskirts of Portland’s old town, characterized by Victorian-style wooden buildings, what was ant to co finally arrived.

“Bang!”

A crisp and distinct gunshot pierced the relatively tranquil air. Unlike the dull sound of the AK series or the sharp sound of the M16, it was the sound of a precisely calibrated sniper rifle!

Almost simultaneously with the gunshot, the squad leader in the leading LAV-25 armored vehicle, who had just poked out half his body to observe the road conditions, had his helt suddenly explode into a mist of blood, toppling backward.

“Sniper, ten o’clock direction! White three-story building, attic window!”

“Ratatatatata—!”

“Bang! Bang bang! Bang bang bang!!”

Intense automatic weapon fire suddenly poured from building windows on both sides of the street, bullets like a sudden downpour striking the xican Marine Corps’ armored vehicles and the infantry’s shelter, sparking a series of dazzling fire and the sharp whistle of ricocheting bullets.

The attackers had a well-tiered fire configuration, with accurate shooters and machine guns suppressing from high positions, while mid-layer windows were covered by nurous automatic riflen firing, and even shotguns and pistols launching close-range surprise attacks from low places.

The Yanks are still the Yanks.

“Find cover! Don’t cluster!”

“Anti-tank team! RPG! One o’clock direction, second floor of the red brick building!”

Major Canino’s voice calmly issued commands through radio communications amidst the chaotic noises of gunfire and explosions.

He personally saw a rocket-assisted grenade with a long tail fla shoot from a second-floor window of a building. Although the shooter’s haste led to missing the leading armored vehicle, it collided harshly with the outer wall of a building beside it, blasting a huge hole, with shrapnel-like rubble and wood chips scattering everywhere!

“Fire! Fire! Suppress them!” The voices of platoon leaders ordering over the individual radios were continuous.

The once still street instantly drowned in deafening gunfire, explosions, and the cries of battle!

The quality of the xican Marine Corps mbers was quite decent.

Machine gunners quickly took positions at street corners and ruins, retaliating against enemy fire points with dense barrages, and riflen, in groups of three covering each other, used every available cover to advance arduously while precisely shooting exposed enemies.

“Boom! Boom!”

The 25mm chain gun of the LAV-25 armored vehicle emitted a dull yet deadly roar, the high-explosive rounds effortlessly tearing apart the wooden building walls, crushing the gunn hidden behind them along with furniture, and the vehicle’s co-mounted machine gun sweeping the visible enemies on the street.

But the resistors displayed extraordinary tenacity and were evidently well-acquainted with the terrain here. They used the complex alleys of the old town to continually maneuver, striking from one building to another, even moving through basents and wall holes, occasionally sniping from unexpected angles.

“A Platoon reporting! Right flank facing heavy fire, unable to advance! Requesting artillery support!”

“B Platoon needs dics! We have two wounded!”

The battle swiftly fell into a stalemate, the narrow streets restricting armored vehicle maneuverability but providing an excellent ambush location for the defenders.

“Command! This is Beachhead One! We are encountering organized, tenacious resistance at the old town entrance, suspecting remnants of the U.S. Military or ard militants with military training, requesting helicopter gunship proximity support, repeat, requesting close-range air support!” Major Canino shouted into the microphone, the background filled with continuous gunfire.

“Received, Beachhead One. Raptor is already airborne, estimated to arrive in your airspace in three minutes. Fleet fire units are also standing by, provide coordinates!”

Soon, a familiar rotor roar was heard in the sky.

Two AH-1Z “Viper” attack helicopters marked with the xican Navy emblem swooped down from the coastal direction like bloodthirsty raptors, the three-barreled 20mm cannons on their noses already spinning.

This gadget was also “originally” produced by xico, of course, the source of the technology blueprint is quite complex, but let’s not worry about that, anyway whoever produces it first, it counts as theirs.
