Chapter 1612: Chapter 740: Even If It’s Just a Pie in the Sky, There Will Always Be People Who Chase After It

“Please think about it, those drug traffickers he eliminated, who have entrenched themselves in xico for decades, causing countless human tragedies and eroding the foundation of the nation, don’t they deserve to die? His actions in Maine were in response to the blood feud of our compatriots being publicly abused. When law and order have completely collapsed in that land, who can we rely on if not ourselves? Can we rely on those Washington bureaucrats who turn a blind eye or might even secretly condone it?”

He looked straight into Patrick’s eyes, his tone becoming exceptionally earnest, “To judge a person, you must see who his enemies are, and also who he protects. Do you believe that those who are drenched in the blood of innocents, the thugs, and Drug Lords, are more dangerous, or is the person who stands up for the lowest civilians, for the dignity of the nation, even if it ans bearing infamy, more dangerous?”

These words were said with righteous dignity, yet cleverly shifted the concept.

Patrick parted his lips, finding himself montarily unable to refute. From the perspective of the xican lower class, Victor indeed brought order and security, and regarding the incident in Maine, similar public outrage existed within Canada; he himself had garnered significant support through a hardline stance on the issue.

The anger on Patrick’s face gradually faded, replaced by a thoughtful expression. After a while, he stepped aside, revealing the path to the living room.

“Let’s talk inside.” His voice was sowhat hoarse, “The wind is strong outside.”

Dembele showed the first genuine smile since entering this house and nodded gracefully, “Thank you for your invitation, Mr. O’Malley.”

He and the silent, burly bodyguard followed Patrick into the warm yet slightly ssy living room.

Patrick casually pointed at the sofa and walked to the liquor cabinet, taking out two glasses, pouring the sa amount of whiskey, and handing them to Dembele and his companion. Dembele accepted them politely, but didn’t drink imdiately.

Patrick took a large gulp of the drink, the burning liquid slightly clearing his confused thoughts. He put the glass down, leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees, “Okay, Mr. Dembele or whatever your na is, we’ve skipped the probing phase, now tell , specifically what do you want to do? And more importantly, what do I get? Speak practically, don’t feed those ‘new order’, ‘independence’ empty promises.”

Dembele nodded appreciatively, liking the straightforwardness. “Very good, Mr. O’Malley, we need this kind of pragmatic spirit.”

“What you need to do, first, is to use your influence in Parliant and the dia to do everything in your power to delay and obstruct the Canadian governnt’s formal involvent in the US-xico conflict, vote against it, initiate inquiries, use procedural tactics… You are more skilled in this than us.”

“Secondly.”

“We will provide you with so ‘black material’ on Kreti and his core circle. Information that will cause the public to severely doubt his leadership and personal integrity. For example, whether there is the transfer of interests in certain foreign economic cooperation? Whether there was severe decision-making mistakes and resource waste in prior border security appropriations? When public anger is guided, when the wave of public opinion rises high, you, as the opposition leader, launching a powerful impeachnt motion will be an obvious move.”

“Material? Reliable?”

“Absolutely reliable and can withstand scrutiny,” Dembele said confidently, “We will hand them to you through secure channels, and you will control the timing.”

“Then, the cost?” Patrick pressed, “You help overthrow Kreti and stop Canada from going to war, what do you want in return? Besides temporary ceasefire and your ‘temporary’ control of the island.”

Dembele raised a finger, “In military terms, once the United States is frustrated in this conflict, its aura of military technology will inevitably shatter. We can share parts of the key U.S. military technology data and analysis reports acquired from this conflict, helping Canada improve its defense industry and reduce its dependence on Arican equipnt and technology.”

“In terms of territory and sovereignty, we can sign a formal agreent acknowledging Canada’s sovereignty over Machias Seal Island and surrounding disputed areas, and, in due course, complete the handover. This will be a substantial, tangible political legacy for you after taking office.” (This is total nonsense.)

“Thirdly, and most importantly, a Canada that is no longer blindly following the United States will gain respect and special partnership status from us xico in North Arican and even global affairs. In any major North Arican affair in the future, Ottawa’s voice will be as valued as that of xico City and Washington, isn’t that precisely the ultimate goal that you and your party are pursuing?”

These grand promises are universally useful at any ti.

You know your boss is spinning a yarn, but you can’t help it, they do sound enticing.

Patrick feels the sa now, knowing the other’s bluff, but still finding it appealing.

This is a high-stakes gamble. Cooperating with Victor is tantamount to seeking the skin of a tiger. If things are exposed, he’ll be utterly ruined.

But… what if he succeeds?

If he can seize this opportunity to overthrow Kreti, rise to power, and lead Canada out of the shadow of the United States, becoming a truly independent and autonomous power?

Then, the risks he takes and so principles he violates seem to beco acceptable.

History is written by the victors.

Back then, when General Robert Ross burned the White House, so saw it as barbaric, yet others praised it as a heroic act of breaking the hegemony, didn’t they?

He slowly put down the glass, lifted his head, and all hesitation and struggle in his eyes faded away, leaving only the distinctive calm and decisiveness of a politician.

He looked at Dembele, extending his hand.

“Mr. Dembele,” his voice was steady and powerful, “I think we can start discussing so specific details now.”

Dembele smiled, taking his hand.

“Of course, Mr. O’Malley. Happy cooperation.”

“I hope my decision is not wrong.”

“God bless us!”
