Capítulo 1206: Chapter 212: The Rescue That Never Ca
Despite his complaints, Tony was still rational.
He also knew that the kind of situation he was imagining was impossible.
Being able to send people like him to the Moon was already an achievent requiring a massive amount of resources.
The idea of an interstellar team was just a fantasy.
That’s sothing only found in the movies; with the current technology of Water Blue Star, we can’t reach that level.
After simply handling the corpses of their companions, the two of them wiped away the surrounding blood and completed the final data upload.
At this point, they had done everything they could, and the rest was up to fate.
“I originally thought the main force of the insects was about to co over… Luckily, they don’t seem to have discovered us. It looks like this newborn larva hasn’t linked to the insect swarm’s ntal network yet…”
“Otherwise, when it saw us, the insects over by New Apollo 1 would have known of our existence too.”
In the room, Ottos spoke with a look of relief.
He and Tony had already put on their space suits, preparing to go out and dismantle so structures of the base, returning it to the appearance of a vehicle.
This Moon Base itself was expanded from a vehicle, which ans it is mobile.
Although this movent is very slow, if the insects co, the two of them still wanted to try to escape by starting the vehicle, making one final struggle.
After all, anyone who can survive doesn’t want to die, much less sit around doing nothing while waiting for death.
“Ottos, you seem to have a lot of knowledge about them. What do you an by the insect swarm’s ntal network?”
Tony asked, a bit curiously.
“I wouldn’t say I know them well. When we first encountered these monsters, we did so research. The so-called ntal network is actually what we commonly refer to as the hive mind, like bees and ants…”
“Hive mind…”
Tony instantly broke out in a cold sweat, a strong sense of dread washing over him.
Luckily, this larva hadn’t linked to the other insect swarms, otherwise, by now, the two of them would probably be dood.
“But… Audel has always been with us. Exactly when was he parasitized…?”
Safety Officer Ottos also showed a puzzled expression; this was a question he still hadn’t figured out.
After pondering for a mont, Tony provided an answer.
“It was the ventilation shaft. When New Apollo 1 landed, we detected a blockage in the vent. I sent Audel to check it out, but he didn’t find anything wrong. Maybe that’s when he was…”
He sighed at this point and didn’t continue.
Ottos remained silent, and the two tacitly stopped the conversation.
After tidying up, they reported the situation to the Space Aviation Center and then opened the valve to head out, beginning to dismantle the base vehicle.
It was just established yesterday, but due to unforeseen circumstances, it had to be dismantled the very next day.
The two coordinated their busy efforts; in this airless environnt, everything around seed so eerie and silent.
In space, there is an infinite coldness and darkness.
This current situation made Tony and Ottos feel as if they were abandoned by the entire world.
Here on the far side of the Moon, they couldn’t even get one last look at their ho planet, only waiting for fate’s verdict in solitude.
Just then, the ground suddenly shook a few tis, nearby rocks rattling as if sothing was rapidly approaching from underground.
Seeing this, the two imdiately beca alert.
They exchanged glances, even through the thick helts of their space suits, seemingly able to see each other’s frightened expressions.
“They’re coming!”
Almost in unison, they spoke, then hurriedly dropped what they were holding and ran towards the base vehicle’s entry valve.
Just monts ago, they were relieved they hadn’t been discovered by the insect swarm, but in the blink of an eye, those creatures had found them.
“What do we do now? Section B is still not connected, and it holds our last remaining supplies!”
“Forget about those! Start the vehicle quickly! We must leave imdiately! Those insects could appear at any mont!”
Ottos peered through the window at the land outside.
The trembling there was becoming more noticeable, as if in the next second, countless insects would erge.
Clenching his teeth hard, he could no longer worry about whether the base vehicle was fully retracted, adjusting the speed to its maximum, and started driving away from the direction of New Apollo 1.
The speed of the base vehicle wasn’t fast, only slightly better than a Moon rover.
Considering that a lot of loads weren’t brought along, the speed was a bit faster than expected, but still quite limited.
After all, this was constructed to function as a base on the Moon, where it was impossible to move too quickly.
Even having set off early, the base vehicle seed no faster than a snail in their eyes.
The insects behind had already erged from underground, yet they had only managed to travel less than three hundred ters, a speed simply insufficient to escape.
