Capítulo 1207: Chapter 212: Rescue That Never Ca (Part 2)
“Turn! Turn! Ahead is Longinus’ magnetic field chaos area! We could stall out there!”
Tony, seeing the direction Ottos was heading, couldn’t help but shout anxiously.
But there was no choice; there were insects on the left, right, and behind them earlier, forcing them to retreat to this spot.
“They’re already here! There’s no ti to turn! Go for it!!”
Ottos gritted his teeth, activated the autopilot mode, and then stepped down from the driver’s seat, picking up his machine gun.
“What are you doing!”
Tony, seeing this, hurriedly tried to take control of the base vehicle but was stopped by Ottos.
“Take this, and prepare for battle!”
Ottos tossed a similar machine gun to him, signaling him to fight together.
But Tony’s space suit was different from Ottos’s combat attire.
His was a standard space suit, the kind that’s just bulky and cumberso.
Even if he managed to lift the heavy machine gun, the design of the space suit made it impossible for him to effectively fire at the enemy, leaving him standing helplessly at the back.
Ottos couldn’t be bothered with him right now; he was observing the situation outside through the glass of the base vehicle.
The swarm of insects ran incredibly fast, catching up with them in an instant.
“Boom!”
A dull impact sound ca from the back door, followed by a series of identical noises.
“Boom boom boom boom boom boom boom!”
The sound ca from all directions, and the entire base vehicle started to wobble, feeling like it might overturn at any mont.
The two inside were terrified beyond reason, their hearts pounding rapidly.
They had never been as tense as they were at this mont.
The titanium alloy walls surrounding them had already deford severely, as if countless hideous monsters would break in the next mont and devour them.
“Screech!”
The sound of tal being torn echoed, a black scythe pierced through the wall, and a Scythe Insect lunged in.
Maybe the signal transmission equipnt was destroyed because the picture captured by NASA’s Space Aviation Center froze at that terrifying mont.
Looking at the still image of the Black Worm, no one could say a word; the environnt was too oppressive.
The despair experienced by the two inside the vehicle resonated with those watching the live broadcast.
Lune had returned to the command center by now, watching this footage, his heart twisted in agony.
Not only because the lunar mission he and Professor Houston had built had utterly failed.
But also because Ottos was once his subordinate, with whom he shared a deep bond of camaraderie.
Learning of his death filled him with sudden sorrow.
“Is it still too late…”
Lune sighed inwardly, feeling very guilty.
Just monts ago, he had left the command hall and boarded his private plane.
There, using a special communication device, he contacted soone far across Water Blue Star.
This person was Hu Hu from the Abnormality Departnt.
Both of them were responsible for handling abnormal incidents in their respective countries, and although they didn’t contact each other often, they maintained so level of communication.
Previously, Lune had obtained so shared intelligence on Alien Species from him this way.
He reached out to him not because he believed the Abnormality Departnt had the capacity to resolve the crisis they faced on the Moon.
Being a major nation of Water Blue Star, even if the other side advanced further in the Extraordinary Domain than his own, Lune didn’t believe they had the capability to conduct a lunar rescue.
His main purpose was still to engage with that mysterious organization closely tied to them – the Star Alliance.
For a long ti, one thing Lune regretted was that he hadn’t established contact with that organization wielding mysterious Extraordinary Power.
Most information related to Alien Species he received through the Abnormality Departnt’s forwarding, leaving him feeling quite passive.
Fortunately, Hu Hu promptly agreed after receiving his request, stating he could inform the Star Alliance.
However, whether they would agree to a rescue, or if the rescue would succeed, could not be guaranteed.
Hu Hu’s swift agreent was within Lune’s expectations.
This lunar mission, though concealed, was massive and akin to the Manhattan Project of yore; absolute secrecy was impossible.
Moreover, both Lune and Hu Hu knew how critical this lunar mission was.
Its purpose was to explore the Transcendent.
Therefore, most participants supported the “Alien Species Information Sharing Sche.”
If irreparable losses occurred in this mission, the group supporting it would face opposition attacks, directly impacting the signing of the “Alien Species Information Sharing Sche.”
Such a scenario wasn’t sothing the Abnormality Departnt wanted to see.
Therefore, in such a crisis, Lune imdiately thought of Hu Hu, the unlikely ally.
Fortunately, the result was as expected, with him agreeing to the request.
Yet, this was only a beginning.
Even with the Star Alliance’s help, it didn’t guarantee the rescue of the New Apollo Team survivors.
Given how abrupt this event was, and considering it took place on the Moon, not even the Star Alliance might succeed.
Despite possessing unimaginable Extraordinary Power and exhibiting unparalleled strength.
That was outer space, a Restricted Area beyond human reach.
Who could guarantee a successful rescue in such an environnt?
But now, in this situation, Lune had no choice but to try healing the dead horse as if it were alive.
Having invested such enormous manpower and resources, the New Apollo Team had only been on the Moon for two days, yet no valuable intelligence had been returned.
If all was lost, the blow to those involved would be devastating.
The previously decided “Alien Species Information Sharing Sche” might also be canceled because of this event.
If not for the Star Alliance’s previously displayed ability to crush the Insect Race in battle.
If not for the lack of other options, Lune wouldn’t have recklessly contacted the Abnormality Departnt.
Now, as he returned to the command hall.
Seeing the nacing Black Worm on the large screen.
He knew he had co too late.
There weren’t so many miracles in this world, and these people might have been swallowed by the insect swarm by now.
Even if the Star Alliance arrived now, it would already be too late.
The New Apollo Project and Longinus Project had officially failed, and he might no longer be fit as the Director of the Hurricane Bureau.
Surprisingly, Lune didn’t feel as devastated as expected; instead, a sense of relief overca him.
The pressure of being director was imnse.
Not only did he have to prevent and contain Alien Species, but he also had to participate in the conspiracies of politicians, leaving him overwheld.
Even with an impending crisis, with threats from Alien Species looming, people failed to grasp the situation.
Basic cooperation wasn’t achieved, delaying the “Alien Species Information Sharing Sche” indefinitely.
Of course, perhaps they weren’t blind to the situation, but rather unwilling to let go of their ridiculous interests.
Perhaps only when destruction truly arrives will they regret their actions.
But by then, will regret be of any use?
If the Alien Species Information Sharing could have been achieved sooner, Lune wouldn’t have ended up in such a passive situation.
Lune shook his head.
He just felt a bit unwilling, with the heart to kill the enemy but powerless to do so.
But now, it’s too late for such thoughts.
He needed to inform the other supporters about the situation, at least allowing them to prepare for the aftermath of a plan collapse.
