440: Chapter 322: Attacked (Combined) 440: Chapter 322: Attacked (Combined) John’s squad had begun an ergency evacuation.
On this pitch-black night, without lights or vehicles, their movent beca incredibly difficult.
Moreover, having lost their compass and so auxiliary equipnt, they didn’t even have a detailed map, which undoubtedly compounded their difficulties.
But, the sudden ergence of this bizarre situation made it too dangerous to stay by the lake any longer; they needed to find a new place to spend the night.
Fortunately, everyone present was an Elite Soldier, trained rigorously.
Although so were new recruits, they had all previously been Bounty Hunters with strong professional skills.
Additionally, their extensive experience in field missions gave them survival skills in the wilderness that were even stronger than many veterans from the Sea Lion Reconnaissance Team.
However, the evacuation remained extrely difficult; the path they took upon arrival was not straight, and now they could only find a general direction towards the coastline to proceed.
“Commander, I feel like sothing’s wrong.
It seems different from when we ca, did we take a wrong turn?”
A mber of the team voiced his concerns.
He was responsible for map-making in the squad and was more sensitive and acquainted with the surroundings than the others.
“What’s wrong, Morick?
Did you notice sothing?”
John imdiately halted his steps, and the entire team stopped as well.
“Commander, we should be moving southeast, but the trees here seem quite different from when we ca…”
Morick spoke while touching one of the large trees and continued:
“These trees, they seem taller and bigger than when we arrived, as if, in just these few days, they have suddenly grown…
If not for the direction of the leaves and the smoothness of the bark, I might even think we’ve lost our way.”
John frowned and said,
“Perhaps, they’ve grown too quickly?
Back at the base, Dr.
Lao Si ntioned that these plants seem to have mutated, not only growing at a rate hundreds or even thousands of tis faster than normal plants but also producing species that don’t exist anymore and can only be found in fossils…”
As he was speaking, suddenly a team mber pointed ahead and shouted, “Look!
Over there!
Is that a light?”
At this shout, everyone’s gaze turned to the end of their line of sight, where a faint glimr of light could be seen, but it was so distant and unclear, blurred as if seen through fog.
“It looks like there really is sothing there!” soone responded.
John looked towards the light, pondered for a mont, but then suddenly felt an ominous premonition.
“Let’s go see!”
The group advanced through the darkness.
The patch of light was even farther than they anticipated, and it took the twenty-so mbers a long while to reach their destination through the jungle.
At that mont, in the forest ahead, a man in his late twenties was hiding in a tree, not daring to make any movent as he watched the scene below.
The man, nad Deisen, was a pilot affiliated with Arica’s Seventh Fleet, and a few hours ago, he and his five comrades from the Third Flight Team had been tasked to deliver a shipnt of ammunition to a frontline base.
This transportation mission was routine for him; he just needed to use a helicopter to deliver the goods, which was quick and convenient.
Moreover, the island was no longer as barren as it was when discovered two months ago.
Now it was covered with tall trees, forests, mountains, and rivers intertwining; ordinary vehicles would have found it difficult to navigate without the use of helicopters.
The shipnt Deisen and his colleagues were transporting included a type of missile nad Jericho, the newest dostically developed kind, a powerful cluster bomb that could easily flatten a small hill.
He knew that once the shipnt arrived, his comrades at the camp would use these missiles against the mysterious barrier appearing in the lake.
So in the base said it was the work of Aliens, a sentint with which Deisen agreed.
After all, such a barrier-type protective layer was simply impossible with Earth’s current technology.
Moreover, combining this with the rumors that had been circulating recently, Deisen began to conjecture that Water Blue Star might be undergoing an invasion by an alien civilization.
Thinking this, his heart surged with heat.
As a pilot of Arica’s Seventh Fleet, he had once fantasized about being summoned in a crisis, breaking through difficulties, and saving lives heroically.
But reality was ultimately reality.
Most of his passion had only applied to his training, and even after arriving at this mysterious island, there hadn’t been any particularly exciting incidents.
However, this ti, upon receiving the transport task, he was also inford of so precautions, which made him realize the seriousness of what they were currently facing.
