It had been two days since Edie’s last visit to Donald. Although Donald still didn’t wake up, the fever had already receded, and the various functions of his body were recovering. The doctor said that he could be discharged as soon as he woke up.
Karen ca to the hospital to take care of Donald as usual, but when she walked around the corner of the corridor, soone was standing there.
"Karen, you are so inconsiderate. Donald is hospitalized, did you not think this was a serious thing and that I should have been told? You never said a word; honestly, I don’t understand."
It was Joanna, and Karen was worried. Karen did not expect to see her and suddenly panicked. She had no idea what to say, yes she deliberately kept her from seeing him, and she could never tell Joanna. With a nervous smile, she tried to be nice, "Miss Bella, you misunderstood, I am sorry, but I could not tell you."
Joanna was not a fool. She showed a cold smile and said: "You said Donald was going to a eting? Is he lying in a hospital eting? I suspected that there was sothing wrong, so I sent soone to check, and you really fooled , didn’t you?".
"Karen, what were you thinking. I am his fiancée, and you didn’t even let know when or why he was in the hospital. I can’t believe you would do this."
Joanna always acted kind and compassionate around Donald; Karen knew precisely the type of woman she was. Joanna’s character was an and vindictive. If you were to offend her, it would lead to an imdiate irreparable falling out.
Her rules were different than the others. Only bad things would co to those who chose to cross her. So, the best thing to do was to learn to step back.
She smiled, "Miss Bella, you really misunderstood, you are soon to be the wife of Donald. I was looking out for his best interest. I would not deliberately hurt you. It was urgent, and I had to get him here fast, I didn’t want to worry you. I didn’t even notify his parents."
Joanna wasn’t really upset with Karen, and she just wanted to teach her a lesson. She looked at her and asked, "What happened to Donald?"
"There is nothing wrong with him. When he wakes up, he will be discharged."
Joanna frowned, "Wake up? How long has he been in a coma?"
Karen hesitated and said, "Four days."
"You didn’t tell he was in a coma, and it’s been four days? Karen, I can’t believe you would do this."
"Miss Bell, I..."
Joanna did not want to talk any more nonsense with her. She looked at Karen coldly, and then she turned around and walked directly into Donald’s room. The doctor was just leaving his room, and only Donald remained there. He was lying there motionless.
Not longer after Joanna entered the room, Karen followed from behind. Joanna stepped forward and saw his pale face. She was standing over him, and you could tell by the look on her face she was concerned for him.
"Donald, Donald, can you hear ? It’s Joanna." Joanna tried to shout. Karen knew that it was useless. In the past few days, she tried to wake him up but never succeeded.
He was no longer struggling and accepted all the treatnts, but it was as though when Edie left, he lost all sense of the outside world. When Joanna cried, it was like he was deaf. Nothing around him seed to exist.
Joanna bit her lower lip as she was unwilling to give up. She stepped forward and pushed his shoulder, "Donald, you wake up..." Karen couldn’t take it anymore and said, "Miss Bella, please don’t push him, the doctor said it is best not to disturb him and let him rest."
Joanna’s eyes were cold and fierce, "He is my fiancé, and now he is unconscious. Am I worried about him? Have you tried it? If not, how do you know it’s useless?"
Karen was stunned and didn’t know what to say. She rembered when Edie visited him, how she held his hand gently and quietly speaking to him. It was so different from the impatient Joanna and her reactions towards Donald.
For the first ti, Karen thought, "are they making the right decision?" Surprisingly after Joanna pushed him several tis, his eyelids suddenly trembled, and he slowly opened his eyes. Karen and Joanna were both shocked.
Donald squinted as he opened his eyes. It had been a few days since he had last seen any light. He looked uncomfortable, and he frowned and narrowed his eyes as if he couldn’t see who was there.
"This is..."
His voice sounded hoarse as he began to speak. Joanna reacted faster than Karen. When he woke up, she rushed to his side. Her eyes started to water and filled with tears of joy.
"Donald, you finally woke up, I was so worried about you..."
A tear fell down her white cheek. If Karen hadn’t seen it with her own eyes, she would never have believed that the woman in front of her was the sa woman she was talking to outside of Donald’s room. He saw the tears on her face and wiped them away.
"Sorry that I made you worry."
"Everything is going to be okay now that you are awake. I am so relieved to hear you speak."
Donald turned to look at Karen, "Karen, what the hell is going on? All I rember is that I suddenly fainted at the airport. Why does it feel as though I have been here for a long ti?"
Karen said, "You have been in a coma for four days. I wanted to ask you what was going on. The doctor said that your bodily function was not the problem, but it was the change in your electrical activity in your brain. It was as though you were trying to rember sothing, and everything seed to shut down. Do you rember what happened before you went into a coma?"
Donald frowned and said, "At the airport, Joanna took the reporters outside, then..."
Then he was silent. Joanna desperately asked, "What happened then?" He lowered his eyes and covered the complex emotions in his eyes. If nothing happened, "And then I forget."
Joanna was disappointed, but she still said, "It doesn’t matter as long as you are awake, and you can move. Nothing else matters."
"Good." Donald nodded warmly, "Joanna, can you please ask the doctor to co in? I have so questions to ask him."
Joanna also wanted to know, so she imdiately nodded, "Well, I will go see if I can find him."
When Joanna walked out of the room, Donald suddenly looked up at Karen and asked, "I have been here the last few days when I was in a coma?"
"How could he ask this question?" She wondered. Karen was a little confused, but she quickly figured it out. She was sure that when Edie was in the room that it was impossible for him not to know that she was there.
"No, no, I have been taking care of you the whole ti."
"Really?" he said, sounding surprised. The light disappeared in his eyes, and now they looked very strange as he was deep in thought. Although he was in a coma, he could clearly rember that there was a fragrance lingering around the room. It was entirely different from the sll of the high-grade perfu on Joanna.
