Soon, it was grandpa’s eightieth birthday. Greg’s Family wanted to have a huge feast and wanted to invite all the essential businessn, but grandpa didn’t like crowds. Therefore, they decided to have a family reunion.
It was held at Greg’s ho. Family and old friends were the only ones invited. As a Rolls-Royce pulled in their driveway, Donald got out of the car and opened the door for Joanna. She took a careful look at Donald’s face, "Darling, are you feeling alright? We can go ho after I send our wishes to the old man. You just got out of the hospital yesterday. Your condition is my top priority."
Although Donald didn’t show it in his face, he looked exhausted. "I am okay, this is such an important occasion, and I should stay with you." Hearing his sweet words, Joanna smiled gracefully.
He walked into the house, wrapping his arms around Joanna’s waist. At the door, he turned around and started looking around the house. For so reason, he felt confused, and the maid asked him, "Mr. Lynch, what can I do for you?"
Shaking his head, Donald answered, "Nothing, thank you." He had this bizarre feeling that soone would be there. "Who could it be?" Donald and Joanna had arrived earlier than everyone else, and the Greg’s were upstairs getting prepared for the party.
The maid took them upstairs with Greg’s. Grandpa smiled; he was still so full of life. He was turning eighty, and because he couldn’t get around very well, he was in a wheelchair.
Pushing the wheelchair, Joanna said, "Grandpa, do you rember who we are? Donald grew up with . He was my best friend. We co here every year to celebrate your birthday." He squinted and took a careful look at them, and he nodded, "Yes, yes, you were good children. I rember you both."
Joanna smiled softly, "Grandpa, I can’t believe how handso you look. I am almost jealous, and you are so lucky to have Victoria and Joshua in your life."
Hearing Joshua’s na, Grandpa was still for a minute and asked Joanna, "Joanna, when will he be coming back?"
"Grandpa, Joshua called you this morning. He told you that he had work in China and that he wouldn’t be coming today."
Grandpa’s mory wasn’t very good at tis, he nodded and said, "Oh, so he won’t be here today?"
Hearing this, Joanna knew that he was getting more and more confused. The atmosphere was a little awkward, and Donald decided to give him his gift. It was an expensive tonic.
Victoria took it from him and expressed her appreciation from her grandpa. Unexpectedly, after seeing that delicate gift box, Grandpa frowned and stared at Donald with a confused look on his face, "Where is Edie’s present? You always brought one from her." Everyone fell into silence.
Joanna’s smile froze, and her face turned red from anger. Donald’s heart rapidly started to beat. "Grandpa, why would you say that? What do you an?" asked Joanna.
"Didn’t you bring a gift from Edie before? I rember vaguely that Donald and Edie were here together, and were they not in a relationship?"
Joanna could see the expression on Donald’s face, and she looked like she was ready to explode with anger. Things were starting to feel really awkward, so Joanna quickly wrapped her arm around Donald and winked at Victoria.
Victoria was absolutely shocked to hear grandpa so abruptly ntion Edie’s na. She made an imdiate response, "Grandpa, I am so sorry, but you are wrong. Sotis you are so forgetful. Donald was never here with Edie. She was the girl my father had adopted when she was only a child. Donald and Joanna have been together for a long ti now. It makes a little upset that you can’t rember this."
Grandpa thought about it and agreed with her since he forgot that his grandson had to work; it was possible that he forgot about this. Then he said, "My apologies, The girl who lived here had moved out a long ti ago. I rarely see her anymore, but if she cos today, then I will most definitely introduce you to her."
Joanna and Victoria didn’t know what to do when he said that. They started to feel very nervous. Victoria was furious, "Grandpa, I am your granddaughter, not her. Why do you keep talking about her? Donald and Joanna are engaged. If you introduce another woman to Joanna, I think she might be a little upset."
"Engaged?" He raised his head and stared at Donald and Joanna. He then lowered his head, saying in a sad voice, "It is such a pity." The glint in his eyes disappeared, but no one noticed. Joanna was acting as though nothing happened, but she held her fists tightly from behind.
She didn’t need anyone to remind her that there was ever anything between Edie and Donald. Donald couldn’t rember, but she could never forget about their relationship. When he and Edie were together, they were such a loving couple, and she despised the thought of it.
As she was thinking about them, she started to feel anxious. She raised her head and looked at Donald, and she began to worry. "What if he rembers sothing?"
It didn’t seem to bother Donald when grandpa spoke of Edie, and he looked calm. He was acting as though he didn’t even hear what he said. He showed no emotion on his face. What Joanna didn’t see was the light in his dark eyes.
Donald said with a polite smile, "Grandpa, I am so glad to see you looking so healthy and in such high spirits. We have to go as I have so business to tend to. I look forward to seeing you again."
Grandpa was a little disappointed, "What’s your hurry? Edie hasn’t arrived yet. I know she will be so happy to see you."
He wouldn’t stop; he kept saying her na over and over again. Joanna was getting more anxious. She knew Donald was in a hurry, so calmly, she said, "Grandpa, Donald has so work that he needs to take off right away. Please accept our apologies as we need to go."
"Alright, young people are always busy doing sothing. Edie is also too busy, and it has been such a long ti since I have seen her."
Joanna thought he was obsessed with Edie. She couldn’t take it any longer. Victoria could see the rage in her face and quickly said, "I will see you two out." She asked the maid to watch her grandpa and walked out of the study with Donald and Joanna.
