When Edie stepped out of the hospital, Jeff stopped her behind.
He tumbled towards her and moved his dry lips. It seed that he was hesitating.
He kept looking towards the hospital. But he didn’t say a word out.
He also realized he’d made a big mistake. He didn’t know whether he had a chance to make an andnt. After all, Scarlet was his only lovely daughter.
Hearing no words from Jeff, Edie said in a helpless voice, "She is badly injured. Her hands might not recover completely. It might affect her career."
"What?" hearing this, Jeff scread out. He imdiately said in an anxious voice, "Why? How? If she gets fired, I would never be able to pay the debt. They would definitely kill ."
All of a sudden, Jeff beca much older. He fell on the ground, keeping trembling.
Edie really couldn’t put up with the man in front of her anymore. He dared to mortgaged the house Scarlet’s grandmother left Scarlet.
After hesitating for a while, Edie signed. Then she asked him, "How much do you need o get her grandmother’s house back?"
"One million dollars. Just one million dollars. You are Scarlet’s good friend. Please, help . After Scarlet earns more money, she would pay you. Okay?"
"You don’t have to say this now. All I want is to get her grandmother’s house back. She cares about that house the most. I need to go to the bank to transfer to you. You can co with ,"
Hearing her words, Jeff imdiately cheered up. Then he nodded and followed her to the bank.
After transferring the money, Edie said, "You’d better not visit Scarlet now. She hasn’t cald down at the mont. If you get her grandmother’s house back, she might feel better."
"Okay. You are such a kind girl. It is lucky for Scarlet to have you as her best friend. I think I might need to go now," Jeff chuckled to himself at the mont. He stepped back towards the door. Edie didn’t stop him.
After Jeff left, Edie signed. She felt sorry for Scarlet that she lived in such an awful family.
Though the Greg’s never took care of her, they never did this to her. Besides, her grandfather protected her all the ti. But Scarlet’s grandmother passed away when Scarlet was so young.
Edie finally understood why Scarlet was always so an to others. Because of the reality. The brutality of reality forced her to do so. Edie wished she could achieve sowhere with Jason.
Edie signed and went out to buy lunch. When she walked out of the bank, Stuart suddenly called her.
"Where are you now?"
"What’s up?"
"Are you in trouble? You seldom used that large amount of money. What happened? I am so worried about you. Are you alright?"
"I am fine. It is Scarlet. Scarlet’s confronted with so trouble. So I spent so money. Sorry. I forget to tell you."
"I don’t care about that money. What I care about is you. I co to you now."
"Okay."
She told him the address and hung up the phone.
At the sa ti, in the hospital, the doctor had dressed the wound for her. Because the wound was so bad, the doctor suggested she stay at the hospital for several hours for further observation.
Jason had handled the admission procedures for her. He also explained to Donald. Donald agreed to have several days off.
When Jason returned back to the ward, Scarlet was lying on the bed. At the mont, she remained the sa facial expression. She didn’t look happy or angry. But Jason got more worried about her.
"Scarlet, talk to , okay. Tell how you feel. Don’t keep your sorrow to yourself. I am really worried about you."
Jason grabbed her left hand and put it to his lips. While he talked, his lips were trembling.
Hearing his words, Scarlet was a little touched. She fixed her eyes on him, staring at him, like staring at a stranger.
"Jason."
She finally talked, in a hoarse voice, as if it’s been a long ti since she talked last ti.
Jason nodded, "I am here. What do you want?"
"Tell , is my right hand hopeless now?"
"No. dical technology is well developed now. The doctor would definitely cure your hand. You can still draw and design."
"You don’t have to comfort . I’ve heard every word the doctor said. Actually, it is okay with . I couldn’t earn money anymore. They couldn’t get a penny from anymore. It is great. Don’t you think so?"
While saying these words, she raised a relieved smile at the corner of her mouth, as if she finally got rid of them.
"Jason, don’t feel sorry for . I am fine. I can handle it. I’ve been used to them. I know they would co to , sooner or later, when they knew I’d made great achievents in my career. They would never let go."
"Scarlet, I prefer that you look fragile at the mont. I want you to rely on at the mont. You don’t have to pretend to be strong. You make heartbroken."
"Jason...I am sorry. I am really tired now. Could you go out for a second? I want to be alone for a mont."
Scarlet slowly took her hand back. Though she was so weak now, she looked so determined.
Then she turned around, closing her eyes slowly.
Jason pressed his lips tightly. He sat there for a minute. Finally, he raised a bitter smile at the corner of his mouth and turned around, leaving the ward.
When he walked out of the door, he t Edie that ca back.
"Why do you co out? How’s Scarlet?"
"She wants to stay alone for a mont. She told she could handle this." Jason said in a low and depressed voice.
Hearing this, Edie didn’t know how to comfort Scarlet. This was Scarlet. Every ti she was confronted with difficulties, she would push those that cared about her far away. She didn’t want to implicate them. However, she didn’t know those cared about her wanted to be implicated by her.
Edie signed and said, "Do you need to go into her company?"
"Yes. Now you might be the only one she trusts."
Edie nodded, and then she pushed the door open, "Do you still have the appetite?"
Scarlet shook her head.
"Fine. If you don’t want to eat, I can starve with you, with my daughter or son in my belly," Edie smiled and tried to activate the atmosphere.
Hearing her words, Scarlet imdiately looked towards Edie’s belly.
Her belly looks flat.
"I am hungry now."
Scarlet changed her mind imdiately.
Edie was surprised that her way worked so well. She imdiately took all the food out.
Scarlet didn’t eat a lot. She was in a bad mood. After taking a sip of soup, she got full.
While eating, she didn’t say a word to Edie. Edie got so worried about her.
"Jason and I would stay with you all the ti, tell whatever you want to say. You are a sunny girl. You love smiling and laughing. Your smile is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in my life. Don’t be imrsed in the sorrow."
