He seed not to feel any pain, not even furrowing his brow. He placed down the scalpel and again extended his fingers into the wound, forcibly extracting a small, sealed plastic bottle.
After casually bandaging the wound and washing both his hands and the bottle with clean water, Zhan Sheng stared at the bottle, caught in a web of conflicting emotions.
Does he have to do this?
In this tiny bottle, there’s a liquid that, once poured into the water supply, would spell disaster for everyone here. But does he really have to do this?
Not doing it would an his own death.
Doing it... would an Hua Ling’s death...
Zhan Sheng never imagined he would hesitate over a man. Clearly, he barely rembers him, and they hadn’t spent much ti together, yet why does he feel so conflicted...
Nevertheless, he should not hesitate. He doesn’t know Hua Ling that well, and although Hua Ling had treated him well, it wasn’t worth risking his life for.
What he needed to do was to act according to plan...
...
Hua Ling had been waiting outside for a long ti. It wasn’t until the sun had set that Zhan Sheng finally ca out.
Hearing the sound of the door opening, Hua Ling quickly turned around and stepped forward briskly.
"Zhan Sheng, how is it? Have you figured it out?"
Zhan Sheng looked at him and shook his head.
The hope in Hua Ling’s eyes was instantly extinguished, leaving him very disappointed, "You haven’t figured it out? But it’s okay, you can give it to soone else to research! As long as you tell us how to go about it."
"It’s useless." Zhan Sheng replied in a low voice as he started walking forward.
"Why is it useless?" Hua Ling asked nervously, "We haven’t even tried yet, how do you know it’s useless? You should tell us, I’m sure it will succeed."
"It won’t." Zhan Sheng insisted firmly.
Hua Ling felt sowhat annoyed, "Why are you like this? We haven’t even tried, how do you know it’s useless?"
"I don’t have much ti left." Zhan Sheng halted, staring at him as he responded.
Hua Ling was taken aback: "..."
After a long pause, he hesitantly asked, "What do you an you don’t have much ti left?"
Zhan Sheng didn’t answer; instead, he glanced towards the seaside and suggested, "Will you walk with ?"
"What do you plan to do?"
"I just want to take a walk." He said as he started walking towards the sea, his steps slow, as if each step took a great deal of effort.
Watching his determined and resolute back, Hua Ling inexplicably felt a sting in his nose.
"Wait for !" He suddenly called out, lifting his legs to catch up.
But once he caught up, he didn’t know what to say.
Zhan Sheng continued walking until they reached the seaside. Gazing at the vast sea, he seed to find a bit of peace.
The sea breeze ruffled his hair and the corners of his clothes; at that mont, Hua Ling found him inexplicably handso.
"Is my na Zhan Sheng?" he asked suddenly, staring out at the sea.
Hua Ling took a mont to respond before nodding, "Yes, I gave you that na. I’m sorry, at that ti I only wanted to use you to make money, so I nad you that..."
"It’s alright, I like it a lot." Zhan Sheng said uncharacteristically, surprising Hua Ling.
"Really?" he asked happily.
Zhan Sheng nodded, his expression sowhat softening, "This na feels very familiar to ."
"Of course, you’ve used it for a long ti, so naturally it feels familiar."
"You took good care of before, thank you."
"No need to thank , we’re brothers after all."
"Thank you for considering as a brother." Zhan Sheng added.
