The signal in this jungle was blocked; right now, she and her companion felt quite isolated and supportless, so they especially cherished the bullets in hand, no longer using them casually.
Just hold on for ten more minutes, Luo Xi told herself.
But her condition was indeed not good; her companion glanced at her, knowing her strength was sapped to the limit by a gunshot wound, grabbed her suit jacket, and disguised her slightly, "Find a way to rendezvous with the captain on your own."
"What about you?"
"I’ll lead them away, don’t worry, I won’t let anything happen to ."
Luo Xi wanted to say more, but her companion resolutely stopped her persuasion: "Continuing like this, you’ll only slow down, find sowhere to hide for now."
Luo Xi’s eyes were filled with warmth, understanding now was not the ti for sentintality, "Be careful."
As soon as her words fell, her companion ran towards another direction, even deliberately firing a shot to attract the adversary’s attention. Luo Xi held her breath, buried herself deep in a thicket, hiding her body, tensing up, not daring to move an inch.
Footsteps approached from afar, then faded away; the sky was completely dark, nothing could be seen clearly around, and the various calls of insects in the jungle blended together.
She tried to retrace her steps but got lost.
She wandered aimlessly through the jungle for about two or three hours when suddenly, gunfire echoed from afar, not nearby. Luo Xi was startled and then headed towards the source of the sounds.
Where there was gunfire, there were both sides; judging by the sounds, it did not seem like two groups. She felt so joy after the prolonged exhaustion.
However, the gunfire soon quieted down, and Luo Xi had no clue which side had overco the other. She kept estimating until suddenly, she seed to hear footsteps not far away rustling through the forest.
With alarm bells ringing in her mind, Luo Xi clenched the gun in her hand, quickly climbed a tree next to her, lay on the densely leafed branches for cover, and touched the dagger hidden on her leg, her finger only resting on the trigger.
The footsteps drew closer... Her heartbeat intensified, and although visibility was poor in the dark, Luo Xi continued to watch her surroundings without blinking.
Until those people ca closer and closer.
Five steps away, four steps, three steps... "Young Master Yan, there are tracks of movent over here."
"Mm-hm, keep searching!" Accompanied by a voice she was familiar with, Luo Xi finally recognized the voice’s owner in the dark; she didn’t know how to express what she was feeling at that mont, her finger left the trigger, and the next second, she leaped from the tree.
A faint noise, and a dagger swooshed towards her, followed by the sound of a trigger being pulled.
Yan Fengchi, standing two ters away, also raised his gun, but the mont he saw the woman falling to the ground, he roared, "Don’t shoot!"
The dagger grazed past Luo Xi’s left shoulder; if Yan Fengchi had not reacted in ti, five bullets would have pierced her body at that mont.
Yan Fengchi paused for a beat, quickly holstered his gun, and the next second, he strode to her, gripped her arm, lifting her in one swift motion and pressing her directly into his embrace. Without a word, he tightly held the woman’s frail body in his arms, using the most direct way to convey his feelings right now.
Only by holding her in his arms, feeling her real body, could the empty void in his heart be filled.
A sense of security!
But the woman in his arms let out a slight moan, her shoulder being pressed down, the pain so intense she couldn’t even catch her breath.
