Chapter 771: Chapter 771: Fight

She hurriedly took out a pen and a pristine sheet of paper from her handbag.

“You have no idea how much you inspire me. You’re practically my idol.”

As Gwen continued showering her with pliments, Martha’s brows gradually furrowed.

The flattery had bee excessive. After a brief silence, Martha gently interrupted her.

“Miss Gwen.”

She folded her hands neatly on the desk.

“I actually have something important I’d like to discuss. Can we put all of this aside for now?”

Gwen immediately stopped talking.

Realizing she might have overdone it, she awkwardly withdrew the notebook and pen before forcing an embarrassed smile.

“Sure.”

Without another word, Martha opened one of her drawers, took out a thick stack of documents, and handed them over.

“Could you process these for me?”

Gwen blinked in confusion. She had expected praise, or perhaps an opportunity to discuss her future.

Instead, she had simply been assigned paperwork. Still, she obediently accepted the files.

“Of course.”

She immediately sat down and began working.

The office remained pletely silent.

Beads of sweat gradually formed on Gwen’s forehead as she carefully reviewed every page, unwilling to make even the slightest mistake under Martha’s watchful gaze.

Although it took considerable effort, Gwen successfully pleted every document within an hour.

Throughout that entire hour, Martha never once looked away.

She silently observed Gwen’s work ethic, patience, and concentration. Eventually, she arrived at a conclusion.

‘She’s hard-working. She truly can be guided onto the right path.’

A sincere smile finally appeared on Martha’s face.

After reviewing the pleted documents herself, her confidence only grew stronger.

Everything had been handled accurately. There were almost no mistakes. She looked up at Gwen with genuine appreciation.

“Gwen. I think you’re still very young.”

She smiled gently.

“Instead of trying so hard to flatter people… it would be much better if you stopped walking down that road. You have real ability. If you simply rely on your own capabilities, many wonderful opportunities will naturally e your way.”

Hearing those words, Gwen froze. Confusion flashed across her face as she stared blankly at Martha.

A few moments later, understanding slowly dawned on her.

She lowered her eyes before putting on a grateful smile. “Really? Then… thank you very much for your guidance, Miss Martha.”

Martha carefully observed her expression. Something about Gwen’s smile felt slightly unnatural.

With a probing gaze, Martha softly asked, “You really understand what I’m trying to tell you, don’t you, Gwen?”

Gwen nodded enthusiastically. “Yes. I understand.”

Martha let out a quiet sigh.

“Trust me. Connections built through expensive gifts and constant flattery won’t last forever. They disappear the moment your value disappears. But if you rely on your own ability…”

She smiled warmly.

“…you’ll be able to reach heights that no amount of gift-giving could ever buy.”

She believed she had expressed herself as tactfully as possible.

She hadn’t criticized Gwen directly. Nor had she humiliated her.

Instead, she had patiently guided her, hoping the young woman would understand her sincere intentions.

Gwen continued smiling.

“Yes… yes. I understand.”

However, hidden beneath the desk…

Her fingernails dug deeply into her tightly clenched palms until they almost broke the skin.

A trace of humiliation and resentment quietly flickered within her eyes before disappearing behind her polite smile.

When Martha noticed that tiny movement, she silently shook her head.

‘It seems… I may have made a mistake.’

Standing up from her chair, Martha gathered the documents neatly and offered Gwen one last gentle smile.

“Then I’ll take my leave.”

Without waiting for a reply, Martha turned around and calmly walked out of the office.

The instant Martha disappeared from sight, the smile on Gwen’s face vanished.

She remained frozen for several seconds, breathing heavily as she stared at the closed door.

Only after she was certain Martha had pletely left did she finally lose control.

With a furious scream, Gwen grabbed the expensive pen holder from the desk and hurled it across the room.

Crash! The sharp sound of shattering glass filled the office.

She swept stacks of files off the table. Papers scattered through the air like white snow before fluttering helplessly onto the floor.

The flower vase followed next. Bang!

The fury inside her had reached a point where she almost wanted to kill someone.

Her trembling hands refused to stop shaking.

‘She knows… that woman definitely knows…’

Those weren’t words of encouragement. At least, not in Gwen’s ears.

To her, they sounded like ridicule.

Like someone calmly pointing out every disgusting little trick she had used.

She immediately realized what Martha had been hinting at.

Martha must have discovered that she had been borrowing Felix’s name to establish connections inside the pany.

That was why she had indirectly warned her not to continue doing so.

But who had exposed her? Her breathing gradually slowed as she forced herself to think.

Surely it couldn’t have been the managers. They had benefited from her gifts.

They had absolutely no reason to betray her. Nor could it have been the employees she had stepped on.

Every single one of them feared offending her because of Felix’s reputation.

The more Gwen thought about it, the narrower the list became.

Eventually, her suspicion settled on a single person.

Her eyes widened. A cold light flashed within them. “Annie, it has to be you.”

Without another moment of hesitation, Gwen stormed out of the pany.

In her mind, everything suddenly made sense.

As Felix’s girlfriend, Annie naturally interacted with Martha far more often than she ever could.

The two women were practically future sisters-in-law.

If anyone could have spoken to Martha, it would undoubtedly have been Annie.

The more Gwen convinced herself of this theory the angrier she became.

Soon, she arrived outside Annie’s house.

Without the slightest hesitation, she began pounding on the front door with all her strength.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

A few moments later, the door slowly opened. Standing there was Annie’s younger brother.

The moment Gwen saw him, she shouted, “Where’s Annie?”

The boy frowned in confusion. He had never seen Gwen looking so dishevelled before.

Her hair was messy, her breathing was uneven, and her eyes were bloodshot with fury. “Sister Gwen, are… are you alright? Why do you look so angry?”

Already standing on the edge of losing control, Gwen pletely exploded.

“It doesn’t matter whether I’m angry or not! You don’t have the right to question me! Go call Annie out!”

The sudden roar frightened the young boy so badly that he instinctively stumbled backward.

His face turned pale. Seeing the fear on his face, Gwen finally realized she had gone too far.

She shut her eyes tightly. Taking several deep breaths, she barely managed to suppress a portion of her anger.

When she opened her eyes again, she spoke in a much colder tone. “Go call your sister.”

However, the boy didn’t move. Although he was scared, he also wanted to protect Annie.

Seeing his hesitation, Gwen’s remaining patience pletely disappeared.

Without permission, she forcefully pushed past him and strode straight into the house.

“Annie! Annie, you bitch! If you have even a shred of shame, e out right now! Or are you going to keep hiding forever? You had the guts to stab me in the back! So why don’t you e out and admit it?”

Her shrill voice continued ringing through the house. Upstairs, Annie had been getting ready to head out.

The shouting immediately drew a deep frown onto her face. “What now…?”

She sighed before walking downstairs.

The moment she reached the living room, she saw Gwen standing there like a madwoman, screaming at the top of her lungs.

Annie’s own expression immediately darkened. “Keep your voice down!”

The two women stood facing each other. Their appearances were remarkably similar.

Anyone seeing them for the first time could easily mistake them for sisters.

Yet, the difference in their temperament was impossible to ignore.

At this moment, it became especially obvious.

Gwen looked wild and hysterical, resembling a shrew who had pletely lost her reason.

Meanwhile, Annie stood tall despite the chaos surrounding her. She looked elegant and calm.

Seeing that posed expression only poured more oil onto the fire burning inside Gwen’s heart.

Her jealousy intensified. “You bitch! How dare you act like this in front of me!”

Before Annie could react, Gwen suddenly rushed forward.

Smack! Her palm landed heavily across Annie’s face.

Annie’s head tilted to the side from the force. For several seconds, she simply stood there in stunned silence.

She had never expected Gwen to actually hit her. Slowly, Annie turned her head back.

Her fingers lightly brushed over the swelling mark on her cheek. Something inside her finally snapped.

Without saying another word, she lunged forward.

The fight erupted instantly.

Despite Gwen having trained under her father since childhood, winning numerous martial arts petitions, and even gaining brutal bat experience during the apocalypse, she still couldn’t match Annie.

Unlike Gwen, Annie possessed an instinctive talent for fighting. Her movements were cleaner.

Her strikes landed with frightening precision.

Within moments, Gwen’s attacks became pletely disorganized.
