Capítulo 462: Scene 148 Dawn (1) (3rd update, seeking support, recent performance is dismal)_2

Beside the bonfire, a young man in a grey-green robe looked at the people present with so disappointnt: “Can’t we have a passionate fight for once, even if it’s just once? Yes, we are rcenaries, we are adventurers, but rcenaries also have their honor. This honor is to protect our companions on the battlefield—”

He looked at the others and asked, “Are we about to abandon this honor? How can we be called rcenaries if we don’t rely on our companions, on our comrades?”

His words brought about a silence, as if it was echoing the silence caused by the distant shouts from the city gate.

The rcenary group leaders looked at each other, but they were still hesitant. They wanted to give their people an explanation, but this explanation was not as simple as just saying so words.

No one wanted to appear weak, but after all, it was a direct challenge to a lord of the kingdom, a baron, and even the son of Count Denier—

If they chose to fight, they might no longer have a foothold in this kingdom in the future.

This choice left them in a dilemma.

The young man let out a long sigh: “I’m sorry, it seems I was being too demanding…” He stood up and said, “Alright, but in any case, those grievances on the crosses need an answer. I understand your difficulties—therefore, what you can’t answer, I will answer for you.”

“If soone must die, let my companions and die this ti. Just hope you never forget this day, when that cold-blooded baron trampled not only the lives of your companions, but also your dignity.”

With that, he turned and walked away.

But he had only taken two steps when soone called out to him: “Young man!”

The young Wizard Apprentice stopped.

“If the green hills remain, there will be no shortage of firewood. Did you forget the ssage that lord asked you to convey? I think he ant that one day there will be justice for us—”

“Do you believe it?” The young man interrupted with a cold snort, turning his head back: “Do you believe such perfunctory answers? Those so-called high and mighty big shots, not one of them is good—”

His words suddenly cut off.

The young man’s pupils dilated in circles, and he looked incredulously at the crowd behind him, which was in turmoil and then slowly parted. Like the receding tide, or like an invisible giant beast forcing them to step aside.

The bonfire dimd slightly, and the air rapidly cooled.

A layer of frost ford on the ground at a speed visible to the naked eye.

The young Wizard Apprentice took a light breath, already seeing the figure behind the crowd.

A young man and a little girl, one person and one sword.

Alone, they forged ahead.

Brand held Funiya’s hand and walked forward step by step. As he advanced, the montum of a Gold Rank divided the crowd like an invisible sharp sword; those who slowed even a step were almost suffocated by the cold pressure.

No one dared to stop them, and a wide path imdiately opened up between him and the South Gate of Fir City.

No one dared to make a sound either; all the rcenaries and adventurers present watched this scene in dead silence:

Watching Brand pass through them, watching the rcenaries behind him keep a certain distance but crowd up, silently following one man, like the relationship between a knight and a king.

They also saw the young man, without saying a word, leading the little girl at his side slowly to the city gate, where he stopped.

Everyone watched this scene.

Funiya looked up at Brand too, her green eyes full of reliance; the little girl placed her small hand in Brand’s warm palm, and throughout their journey through the dark forest, through the wilds under the night sky, she always had this feeling:

It was like the feeling of mom and dad.

It was warmth and security.

Brother Brand’s hand felt like a harbor.

Brand also looked up, the cold icy reflection in his eyes showing the pale face of that noble officer.

“What do you want to hear,” the young man’s voice was not loud, but it was clear in the entire silent camp: “Soldier?”

The noble officer standing on the city wall froze.

He opened his mouth, and though he only glanced at the young man, it was as if he had been struck in the chest by a sharp sword, making it hard to breathe. He instinctively turned back to seek help from Rosco, only to find that the other’s figure was long gone from the wall.

He secretly cursed in his heart but, pressed by Brand’s montum, had to stutter and respond, “I… I an, you, you… disband… or… else…. Ex… execution on sight.”

There was imdiate commotion among the rcenaries below, knowing that cold-blooded baron would never joke with them; as a result, the order prompted many to waver.

But Brand just nodded.

“Finished?”

He asked.

“Fini… finished…” The noble officer’s hands were sweating profusely, not understanding why he was so frightened; clearly, the young man was still a distance away, yet he always felt there was a sharp sword hanging over his head.

Brand nodded again.

“Then, it’s my turn to speak now—”

Having said that, he took a step forward, pressing the sword scabbard down with his left hand while gripping the sword hilt with his right—when the longsword was unsheathed, it was like a beam of silver light; and everyone saw the young man draw a long silver line from bottom to top!

But it was not a line.

It was the trajectory of the sword—

From bottom to top.

A ripple followed the motion of Brand’s sword forward, and before the wind pressure even arrived, the city gate already caved inward with a ‘crack’, then shattered into powder in an instant…

The ripple continued forward, the fortress gate collapsed halfway along a tidy cut line with a thunderous crash…

The sword wind swept past, like a castle of sand scattered by the breeze, a nearly ten-ter-long section of the city wall crumbled into dust, dissipating into the air—

Brand drew the sword in a half-circle in the air, then took a step back.

Sword sheathed.

With a light ‘click’, the sword shattered into four pieces!
